King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark bask in the sun - as they are welcomed to their summer residence

Daily Mail05-05-2025

The King and Queen of Denmark beamed in the sun, as they made the annual move into their summer residence at Fredensborg Castle on Monday.
The couple, who usually stay in Amalienborg, Copenhagen, were all smiles as they took in the sunny weather and were welcomed by wellwishers as well as a brass ensemble.
Frederik X, 56, and his wife Mary, 53, were both delighted as they received a warm welcome to the palace's Chancellery House this afternoon.
The mother-of-four was effortlessly elegant in navy trousers and a breezy blue button-down, teamed with a light white coat.
She wore her chestnut tresses down, and opted for a glamorous make-up look for the occasion.
Elsewhere Frederik donned taupe chinos with a pastel blouse, topped with a checkered blazer.
The couple appeared to bring their Border Collie, Coco, along, and looked to be in high spirits as they made their arrival.
Mary held onto a bouquet of flowers as she and her husband both greeted members of the public, and enjoyed chatting.
Taking to social media, the King and Queen wrote: 'When spring soon turns into summer, and the trees around Fredensborg Castle turn green again, the Royal Family will traditionally move their residence to the Chancellery House.'
Fredensborg was built as a 'country seat' for Frederik IV and initially used in 1722, before being rebuilt and expanded. Now, it is often the setting for 'important events' for the family, such as weddings, anniversaries and birthdays.
It's been an exciting few weeks for the Danish royals, who last month celebrated Princess Isabella's 18th birthday.
The eldest daughter of Mary and Frederik enjoyed multiple events in honour of her celebrations, also posed for official photographs at Knight's Hall of Frederick VIII's Palace in Amalienborg.
Isabella put on a dashing display in a vibrant orange ballgown, which was adorned with the Order of the Elephant and a miniature portrait of her father.
The 18-year-old, who opted for a glowing makeup look, added a pair of turquoise and diamond earrings and a matching tiara.

The caption read: '18 years ago today Her Royal Highness Princess Isabella was born.'
'The birthday itself is marked with the publication of the Princess's first official gala portraits.
'The princess is photographed in the Knight's Hall of Frederick VIII's Palace in Amalienborg, and on the portraits Her Royal Highness wears the Order of the Elephant with a star chest... and a miniature Order portrait of her father, His Majesty the King.'
One day before Isabella's birthday, the Danish Royal Family shared a scrapbook of adorable intimate family pictures.
To mark her milestone birthday, the proud parents posted an array of childhood snaps of Isabella and her family throughout various stages of her life.
The royal family's Instagram caption read: 'Little glimpses from childhood to 18 years old.
'On the occasion of Her Royal Highness Princess Isabella's 18th birthday on Monday, Their Majesties the King and Queen share here a selection of memories.'
These included an adorable snap of Queen Margrethe - who abdicated the Danish throne in January last year - holding her newborn granddaughter shortly after she was born.

The former monarch was seen smiling as she looked down at Isabella while cradling her in her arms.
Another sweet black and white image also showed a young Isabella smiling as she clutched onto her mother's back.
A second endearing photograph showed older sister Isabella touching Mary's baby bump when she was pregnant with twins Josephine and Vincent in 2010.
The couple also chose a picture of Isabella - who is called Bella for short in some of the scrapbook captions - and her late grandfather, Prince Henrik of Denmark, who passed away in 2018.
The monochrome image showed the Princess wrapping her arms around Henrik, giving him a huge hug.
The extensive post also included snaps of Isabella with her Australian Scottish grandparents on Mary's side.
Mary's parents are Scottish, but they emigrated to Hobart, Tasmania, where she was born in 1972.
Her mother, Henrietta Clark Donaldson, sadly passed in 1997 following complications from a heart surgery when Mary was just 25 years old.
Her father, John Dalgleish Donaldson, remarried a British crime writer Susan Horwood, who writes under the name Susan Moody.
Elsewhere, another picture showed a young Isabella swimming and spending quality time with her father, King Frederik.
Other images showed Isabella from when was around five years old on family trips in Tisvilde, a seaside town in Denmark, and her feeding a horse - along with more recent snaps of her with the family border collie, Grace.
Princess Isabella is expected to enjoy a private birthday celebration with family and loved ones to mark the occasion today.
From this year onwards, Princess Isabella will also have her birthday added into the rotation of annual flag days, which are the official dates when the national flag is traditionally flown.
In addition to celebrating at the lavish Royal Theatre's Old Stage in Copenhagen last Tuesday, Isabella also had an earlier party on April 11, which, according to Hello, cost a staggering £32,542.

Emmerdale's Mary punches disgusting character in public showdown

Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) delivered an absolutely iconic move in tonight's episode of Emmerdale, as she punched a man who had violated April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan). Ever since she returned from a life on the streets, April has struggled. During the six week period she was living rough in Leeds, April barely got by. She slept on the floor in the middle of winter, watched her friend get stabbed, and gave birth to her stillborn baby girl in the toilet of a gym. Reconnecting with her family at home has been tough for April, because none of them know what she went through. Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) found it difficult to find the line between giving April freedom and implementing rules because she's a youngster, resulting in the father and daughter clashing a lot. Yesterday, April left her GCSE exam because she was overwhelmed. She told her dad that she felt unprepared and behind everyone else, and eventually concluded that doing Year 11 again next year would be best. Finishing school early meant April needed a job to keep her busy. Luckily Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) was on hand to offer some work experience at Take a Vow, and it started with April filming a Christening event. To her horror, April discovered the father of the baby was someone she saw while living rough. As the man spoke about family loyalties and his love for his child, she couldn't help but speak up. April revealed to the group that the man found her sleeping under some cardboard boxes. He was drunk with his friend, and suggested that April could earn money as he loosened his belt. More Trending Utterly horrified, Marlon very nearly started a fight with the bloke, but Mary stepped in instead and punched him. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? The man tried to take control of the situation by threatening to report Mary to the police, but she managed to highlight that he really wouldn't have a leg to stand on. As April tried to process the events of the day, Mary was on hand to support her again. She reiterated to April that she went through a life-changing and traumatic ordeal, which was bound to regularly impact her in the aftermath. However, Mary pointed out that with time, April will eventually learn to live with the scars and move forward, and she seemed to agree. Major Topshop announcement on shock high street return

Major Topshop announcement on shock high street return There was a pop-up store last month which drew big queues of shoppers, and that sparked an idea Beloved fashion retailer, Topshop, will be coming back to the high street (Image: undefined via Getty Images ) After dipping its toe back into the world of physical retail with a pop-up event last month, Topshop is officially planning a more lasting return. The brand's managing director has confirmed that physical stores are back on the cards - with a permanent presence set to launch "at some point" in the future. This follows the success of Topshop's pop-up shop at Defected Records in East London, which drew long lines of shoppers keen to see Topshop's revival. ‌ After the fall of Sir Philip Green's Arcadia Group, ASOS acquired Topshop in 2021, along with Miss Selfridge, for a total of £330 million. ‌ This deal did not include the high street shops, leading customers to turn to ASOS's online platform to buy products from these brands, reports the Mirror. Subsequently, in September, 2024, ASOS offloaded a 75% share in Topshop and Topman to Heartland, owned by Danish billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen, for approximately £135 million, forming a joint venture. For money-saving tips, sign up to our Money newsletter here ASOS announced its intention to reintroduce the websites, and aiming for the sites to be operational by August this year. Article continues below In conversation with Drapers regarding the future of physical outlets, Topshop managing director Michelle Wilson said: "That's something that we're working on all the time." She elaborated that the initial phase would involve partner support, while later plans included opening standalone stores. Ms Wilson further disclosed that Topshop's resurgence would commence with wholesale partnerships starting this August, setting the stage for the eventual launch of independent stores. Article continues below She revealed: "We have something planned in August to bring Topshop back into real life again, with a more semi-permanent presence than the one-day pop-up." While no dates are locked in just yet - or where these stores will be - it's a promising sign for fans hoping to see Topshop return to the high street.
