Youth Councils Should Function As Platforms To Build Inclusive MADANI Nation

Barnama17-05-2025

KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said youth councils should not be merely a meeting ground but must function as a space for young people to rely on and innovate to build an inclusive MADANI nation.
She said that towards this end, the youth councils especially the Federal Territories Youth Council (MBWP) need to open its doors wide to receive and seek the views of youth from outside the walls of the MBWP organisation.
'In my opinion, we also need to hear the voices of the youth outside the official circles, such as e-hailing drivers, small traders, creative workers or digital content creators because they are not part of associations, Certainly, they are also productive citizens with great aspirations.
'I am worried that if we wait for them to unite, we will will lose this group for the umpteenth time,' she said in her speech at the National Youth Day Celebration for the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur here today.
Additionally, Dr Zaliha also said that she agreed to chair the National Youth Consultative Council at the Federal Territory level, with Labuan's participation included in the Federal Territory.
'Previously, Labuan operated separately so this time we are asking for it to be merged so that the overall result becomes more solid," she said.
In addition, she also expressed her willingness to listen and accept any suggestions, views, and constructive criticisms from that group and hopes that the youth will always be more mature and constructive.
To support and implement programmes at the MBWP level, Dr Zaliha announced an allocation of RM50,000 as the MBWP administration fund for the year 2025.
'Insya-Allah, with the MADANI spirit and close cooperation between the government and youth, I am confident the Federal Territory can become the best model of inclusivity in this beloved country," she added.

Kota MADANI shows govt's commitment to address civil servants' housing

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kota MADANI project demonstrates the government's commitment to fulfilling the rights and needs of civil servants, particularly as a concrete solution to public housing issues in Putrajaya, said Parti Keadilan Rakyat Central Leadership Council member Sivamalar Genapathy. She said the project is not designed for the elite nor did it carry the 'skyscraper syndrome' seen under previous administrations, but rather aims to address the imbalance between applications for quarters and the number of available units in Putrajaya. 'The Auditor-General's Report 2021 confirmed that nearly 18,000 civil servants remain on the waiting list for government quarters. Yet, no new quarters have been developed in recent years. 'The reality is, 90 percent of Putrajaya's population consists of civil servants. Therefore, it is only right and necessary for the government to ensure their basic needs are met,' she said in a statement today. The Kota MADANI project is reported to offer 10,000 units of quarters designated for civil servants and is expected to accommodate up to 30,000 residents by offering an inclusive and sustainable urban development model. Sivamalar said the number is not merely a statistic but a true commitment to addressing the needs of those who have long served as the backbone of the nation's administration — proving that the MADANI government does not merely make promises, but delivers concrete solutions to longstanding issues that have been neglected. Previously, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa stated that the Kota MADANI development represents a long-term strategic investment in shaping the future of Putrajaya as a model city that upholds MADANI values, in line with the vision of Bandar Chase. Dr Zaliha said Kota MADANI will serve as the foundation for a low-carbon city that upholds the principles of sustainability, well-being, and public safety.

Water Supply At UMS Stabilises After Misunderstanding Resolved

Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya KOTA KINABALU, June 5 (Bernama) -- The water supply disruption plaguing Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) was caused by a misunderstanding between the university and the Sabah Water Department (JANS) regarding the existing indicator at the R13 water tank. Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, who is also the State Works Minister said the issue is currently being addressed, and the current indicator would be replaced with a digital version within a week. 'A series of discussions between JANS and UMS, coordinated by the Sabah Works Ministry, as well as site visits to UMS have been conducted to resolve the water issue. We concluded that the water supply was not efficiently channelled due to a misunderstanding. 'However, this has been effectively resolved, and based on continuous monitoring since mid-May, the water supply at UMS has remained stable to date,' he said in a press conference, here today. Shahelmey said to address external constraints such as water theft, incomplete pipeline installations, and other factors, JANS and UMS have been urged to work more closely to resolve or minimise water supply issues. 'Through these discussions, JANS and UMS have agreed to cooperate, both in technical and communication aspects. JANS is also committed to ensuring that the volume of water entering the R13 tank remains sufficient and consistent, and will work with UMS on pump operations. 'Additionally, UMS must ensure that internal water distribution within the campus is well managed. JANS is also prepared to offer guidance and support in handling the university's internal water distribution if needed,' he said. Meanwhile, on the Telibong II pipeline project, Shahelmey said the Sabah government through JANS, is currently undertaking pipe installation works under phase II of the project. The project is expected to be completed by early July and will serve the Sepanggar and Northern Kota Kinabalu areas. 'It is hoped that once the pipe installation is complete, water distribution to Sepanggar and Northern Kota Kinabalu will improve and water supply issues will be minimised,' he said. At the same time, Shahelmey said the Urgent Water Supply Scheme (UWSS) project at the Kasigui Penampang water treatment plant, which was originally scheduled for completion in April, has been delayed due to several issues, including unpredictable weather since early this year. 'It should have been operational by now, but there have been constraints. However, I have been informed that it is expected to be fully completed by early July. 'Once completed, the project would benefit users in Penampang, Putatan, Kota Kinabalu and surrounding areas,' he added. -- BERNAMA BERNAMA provides up-to-date authentic and comprehensive news and information which are disseminated via BERNAMA Wires; BERNAMA TV on Astro 502, unifi TV 631 and MYTV 121 channels and BERNAMA Radio on FM93.9 (Klang Valley), FM107.5 (Johor Bahru), FM107.9 (Kota Kinabalu) and FM100.9 (Kuching) frequencies.
