LABUAN: A senior assistant medical officer has been remanded for four days until July 28, for allegedly abusing his position to award logistics-related work to a company owned by his wife. The Labuan Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), in a statement, said the remand order was issued by Magistrate Kasyfurrahman Abang Ahmad at the Labuan Sessions Court today following an application by the MACC. Appointment of Labuan Corporation chairman in final stages, says Dr Zaliha
KUALA LUMPUR: The government is not deliberately delaying the appointment of the new Labuan Corporation chairman, as thorough scrutiny is needed to ensure the best candidate is selected. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, said the matter is in its final stages and will be announced soon. "We are reviewing qualified candidates and, most importantly, ensuring the next chairman truly understands Labuan's current needs and is capable of driving sustainable economic growth. "We are not deliberately delaying the appointment, and there's no need to rush to make a decision, as it is not just about simply filling the post — we must look at the merit of the (future) chairman. "Just a little more patience, as it is already in the final stage. We will make an official announcement on the matter," she said during the Minister's Question Time (MQT) session in the Dewan Rakyat today. She was responding to a supplementary question from Datuk Siti Aminah Aching (BN–Beaufort), who asked about the reasons behind the delay in appointing the Labuan Corporation chairman. Previously, Dr Zaliha dismissed rumours that Tuaran Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, had been appointed as the new chairman of Labuan Corporation. She said the federal government, through the Department of Federal Territories, is still in the process of evaluating several qualified candidates for the leadership role. The post of Labuan Corporation chairman became vacant following former Kimanis MP Tan Sri Anifah Aman concluding his term last month. Meanwhile, regarding the proposal to make the Labuan International Sea Sports Complex the permanent venue for the Borneo Flora Festival, Dr Zaliha said: "The government is of the view that further assessment is still needed to evaluate its long-term suitability in terms of logistics, accessibility and infrastructure sustainability. "For example, the Royal Floria Putrajaya only designated Precinct 4 as its permanent location after seven years of organisation, having taken into account various success factors and challenges. "Given that the Borneo Flora Festival is proposed as a biennial event, the decision on a permanent venue should be made after several editions to ensure it truly meets the requirements for hosting large-scale events on a continuous basis."

Withdrawal schedule based on portfolio size Tokenize has rolled out a phased withdrawal schedule based on portfolio value, as determined at 12 a.m. on Jul 18, using a portfolio snapshot viewable in users' wallets. Users with assets under S$10,000 (crypto and fiat combined) must withdraw by Jul 31. Users with assets between S$10,000 and S$99,999 can withdraw from Aug 1 to 31. Users with assets of S$100,000 and above can withdraw from Sep 1 to 30. If users under the first two tiers miss their respective schedules, they may still complete withdrawals by Sep 30. The company said it is in the process of acquiring a digital financial services (DFS) licence from the Labuan Financial Services Authority (LFSA). The deal is expected to conclude soon, it stated in its statement on Sunday (Jul 20). According to the company, it also offers tax efficiency and access to international markets. The company added that it also plans to secure a licence from the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) to enhance the company's global footprint. Tokenize Xchange CEO and founder Hong Qi Yu said they 'regret' the outcome in Singapore but view it as an opportunity to fortify their international operations. Tokenize was founded in 2017 and supports over 80 digital assets, including Bitcoin and Ethereum. The company, which has between 201 and 500 employees according to its LinkedIn page, said it will support its Singapore staff in pursuing new career opportunities until Sep 30. /TISG Read also: Nvidia CEO to sell more advanced chips to China after H20 ban, warns of 'tremendous loss' for firms in potential US$50B AI market () => { const trigger = if ('IntersectionObserver' in window && trigger) { const observer = new IntersectionObserver((entries, observer) => { => { if ( { lazyLoader(); // You should define lazyLoader() elsewhere or inline here // Run once } }); }, { rootMargin: '800px', threshold: 0.1 }); } else { // Fallback setTimeout(lazyLoader, 3000); } });
