Southeast Louisiana law enforcement agencies to participate in Drug Take Back Day
ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Law enforcement agencies across Southeast Louisiana are participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration's Drug Take Back Day initiative.
On Saturday, April 26, residents in the area can bring their unwanted or expired prescription medications to be safely discarded by law enforcement.

Officials with the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office said residents can bring their unwanted medications to Walgreens at 200 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
St. Tammany Parish deputies said residents can bring medications to the STPSO Law Enforcement Complex at 300 Brownswitch Road in Slidell or the STPSO Law Enforcement Complex at 2070 Collins Blvd. in Covington from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
STPSO officials said syringes, sharps and illicit drugs will not be accepted.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office reported that residents can bring their medications to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office Headquarters at 260 Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Washington Parish Sheriff's Office officials said residents can bring unwanted expired or prescription medications to the drop box at the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office on Main Street and Mississippi Avenue in Bogalusa.
St. James Parish deputies said residents drop off their medications at the Convent Courthouse at 5800 Highway 44 in Convent or the Vacherie Sub-office Annex at 2631 Highway 20. Syringes, sharps and illicit drugs will not be accepted.The NFL's most powerful piece of paper — the Draft Card

West Nile virus detected in Orleans Parish mosquitoes
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Mosquitoes on the New Orleans east bank tested positive for the West Nile virus Sunday, June 8. According to officials from the New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board, mosquitos collected from the east bank of Orleans Parish tested positive for the West Nile virus. Officials said the samples indicate that the virus is circulating among mosquito and bird populations. No human cases have been reported in Orleans Parish this year. Firefighters respond to St. Tammany Parish house fire
ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Firefighters responded to a home in St. Tammany Parish after it caught fire on Saturday morning, June 7. According to the St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11, their units, as well as units from District No. 1, were called to a home on James Crosby Road off of Highway 41. 6-year-old, 12-year-old killed in Terrebonne Parish crash On scene, the small house was found heavily covered by flames. Responders managed to extinguish the fire, although the house was significantly damaged. All occupants escaped without injury and the American Red Cross has been contacted to help them.
