Southeast Louisiana law enforcement agencies to participate in Drug Take Back Day
ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Law enforcement agencies across Southeast Louisiana are participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration's Drug Take Back Day initiative. On Saturday, April 26, residents in the area can bring their unwanted or expired prescription medications to be safely discarded by law enforcement. City of New Orleans announces Jazz Fest safety measures, traffic reminders Officials with the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office said residents can bring their unwanted medications to Walgreens at 200 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. St. Tammany Parish deputies said residents can bring medications to the STPSO Law Enforcement Complex at 300 Brownswitch Road in Slidell or the STPSO Law Enforcement Complex at 2070 Collins Blvd. in Covington from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. STPSO officials said syringes, sharps and illicit drugs will not be accepted. Randy Hayman named new Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans executive director
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans has announced a new executive director after a search that began back in February when the previous director, Ghassan Korban, announced his departure. Hayman previously served as the commissioner and CEO of the Philadelphia Water Department, as well as general counsel for DC Water and Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District. Hayman also has experience as a partner with Beveridge and Diamond PC, the United States' oldest and largest environmental law firm. While in leading in Philadelphia, three billion gallons of pollution were reportedly removed from the water before it could reach streams and rivers. He also played a lead role in the integration of smart meters across every home in the state. Burglary investigation turns drug bust in St. Tammany Parish
ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A burglary investigation in St. Tammany Parish reportedly turned to a drug bust on Sunday night, April 6. According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a home in the 76000 block of Spring Street on a report of a burglary. Hospitalized Jefferson Parish inmate dies of pre-existing condition While at the home, deputies say they saw drugs present, prompting a search. Throughout the search, investigators allegedly found 250.4 grams of marijuana, 24 fentanyl pills, fentanyl patches, various illegally possessed prescription pills, a Smith and Wesson semi-automatic handgun with ammunition and various drug paraphernalia.
