Dharmashastra, Vedas In BA Programme Of Delhi University's School Of Open Learning: Report
Starting this academic session, Delhi University's School of Open Learning (SOL) has integrated studies of Dharmashastra and the Vedas into its Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme, according to a report in Times of India. This initiative aligns with the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework 2022 (UGCF 2022) and the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), aiming to provide a holistic education that encompasses India's rich cultural and philosophical heritage.
New Sanskrit Courses Introduced
In the fourth semester, second-year BA students will have the opportunity to study two new Sanskrit papers:
Sanskrit: Dharmashastra Studies (Minor)
Sanskrit: Readings from the Vedas (Major)
These courses will be taught through Self Learning Material (SLM), consistent with SOL's distance education format. The inclusion of these subjects is part of a broader academic expansion, with the university's executive council approving 38 new papers across various disciplines, the outlet further said.
"This is in the Sanskrit curriculum and the approved syllabus of University of Delhi. We have not introduced anything specially. These papers are already running in the choice-based credit system and annual mode too," Payal Mago, director, SOL, told Times of India.
These courses are designed to enrich students' academic experience by connecting them with foundational texts that have shaped Indian thought and society.
Additional Curriculum Enhancements
Beyond the Sanskrit papers, SOL has approved several other courses to broaden academic options for distance education students, including:
Value-Added Courses (VACs) like Sanskrit: Yoga: Philosophy and Practice and Sanskrit: Panchkosha: Holistic Development of Personality.
General and Discipline-Specific Electives across various subjects.
Ability Enhancement Courses (AECs) aimed at skill development.

DU confirms over 67,500 UG admissions in round 3
New Delhi, Aug 13 (PTI) The Delhi University has confirmed 67,582 admissions in the third round of undergraduate seat allocation, the data shared on Wednesday revealed. The university said allocations for Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA), sports and Children/Wards of University employees (CW) categories will be made public on August 15. The total number of allocations in the latest round stood at 7,061, including those enrolled in performance-based programmes. DU opened its mid-entry admission window at 5 pm on August 8, allowing fresh candidates who missed previous rounds to apply for the 2025-26 academic session. The mid-entry provision under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) will remain open till 4.59 pm on August 10. Candidates who did not register earlier or failed to complete the second phase of admission can apply by paying a fee of Rs 1,000. 'This is an opportunity for those students who were unable to participate in the CSAS earlier due to various reasons. Through mid-entry, they can now enter the admission process," a university official said. The varsity has a total of 71,624 UG seats for the current academic year across 79 undergraduate programmes being offered in 69 colleges. The new academic session began on August 1 in a bid to align with the University Grants Commission's calendar and ensure timely completion of semesters. Stalin launches scheme for doorstep delivery of rations
Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin on Tuesday launched 'Thaayumanavar Thittam' to deliver ration supplies directly to the homes of senior citizens aged above 70 years and persons with disabilities (PwD). Stalin visited beneficiaries' homes at Tondiarpet, Gopal Nagar, and Annai Sathya Nagar, to hand over rations and flagged off delivery vehicles, fitted with electronic weighing scales and e-PoS machines. Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin flagged off vehicles in Chepauk and Triplicane and delivered rations to beneficiaries. When Meenakshi, an elderly woman, told Stalin that standing in a queue for an hour and carrying the weight back home made them dependent on others, Stalin said the trouble is set to end. "From now on, it will come to your doorstep," he assured her. Calling it a scheme close to his heart, he said it was designed to remove the last-mile barrier for those unable to visit ration shops. About 20 lakh senior citizens and 1.2 lakh PwD will get essential commodities such as rice and sugar delivered on the second Saturday and Sunday of every month. Govt will spend 35.92crore annually. "We believe our duty does not end with the announcement of a scheme; it extends to ensuring that every intended beneficiary receives its full benefits," Stalin said, urging the staff of the cooperative dept to ensure that the implementation is flawless.
