Musketeers land defenseman Landon Nycz and Phase II draft selection from Waterloo in exchange for Easton Hewson, four draft picks

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – The Musketeers continue to wheel and deal on the USHL trade market, making a monster move with Waterloo involving a package featuring four draft picks.
Sioux City has acquired defenseman Landon Nycz and a 2025 Phase II 10th round draft pick from Waterloo in exchange for defenseman Easton Hewson, a 2025 Phase I 3rd round pick, a 2025 Phase II 1st round pick and 3rd round pick, plus a 2026 Phase I 4th round selection.
Nycz, the 17-year-old UMass commit, has played in 86 games with Waterloo over two seasons. During his Black Hawks tenure, Nycz scored six goals and tallied 25 assists.
Hewson has appeared in 29 games for Sioux City, tallying three goals and four assists.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Two metro softball teams came together for a cause Tuesday night at East High School. East and Bishop Heelan participated in a strikeout cancer event organized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. T-shirts, stickers, as well as ice cream floats, were on sale with all proceeds going to help Zachary Malenosky who is currently battling brain cancer. Zach directs Good Day Siouxland here at KCAU 9. He continues his recovery after having a lemon-sized tumor removed from his brain. Zach graduated from Heelan and is the nephew of East's softball coach Bubba Malenosky. 'Just called and said, hey, you want to do this with us?' Josh 'Bubba' Malenosky said. 'Since Zach's a Heelan alumni, it's a fore sure yes. Lexie's always been great. ANd yeah, we just teamed up together and we're trying to just teach kids that there's more than just softball. And we're all part of this thing called life.' 'Looking at the jerseys, looking at the people in the stands, you know, it just puts info perspective that we're all fighting for one cause, which is to find that cure for any type of cancer and that so many of our family members, you know, friends are affected by this,' Heelan Softball Coach Lexie Stolen. 'We love finding ways to help the community and it being a Heelan alum that we're helping out made it even better. Happy that Bubba always reaches out to us in order to play this Strike Out Cancer Game, so I tell him, you know, every year, let's do it.' SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Council members unanimously voted yes to the first consideration of a proposal from Siouxland Developers LLC to buy 2.3 acres of land next to Lewis and Clark Park. The sale price for the city property is $50,000. Developers said that they plan to invest $5 million to build a new 65,000 square-foot sports complex. City documents indicate that the facility would provide year-round athletic opportunities for the region. It would include five basketball courts and nine volleyball courts as well as a batting cage. SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Saturday's nice weather brought families out to Bacon Creek Park for the 29th annual River-cade Youth Fishing Derby. From 9 a.m. to noon at Bacon Creek, kids were able to be outside and spend time with their loved ones fishing. For $5, kids ages 4 through 12 were provided with a rod, reel, tackle box, shoreline lunch, and a chance to win a bike in the River City Anglers Casting Contest. The event coordinator said the derby isn't just about catching fish. Maybe, they don't always get a lot of fish or maybe even any fish, but they get the chance to throw their bobber in the water and their hook and see if they catch something and to have the camaraderie with their friends maybe and of course their parents or grandparents,' said Tom Padgett, a River-cade board member According to organizers, in the 29 years of the event, over 12,000 kids have received fishing equipment to enjoy.
