Emmerdale villains pave way for deadly twists, classic feuds and high drama
Emmerdale is about to introduce two new faces to the ITV soap with Ray confirmed as a dangerous villain, while farmer Celia could also feature in dramatic scenes
We have two new faces joining Emmerdale next week, and the potential for both is huge.
Not only will the ITV soap be welcoming some brilliant new cast members and TV favourites, but the characters themselves are almost blank canvases. Just minimal details have been revealed so far about new villain Ray and possible second villain Celia, a farmer no doubt set to be a rival to Moira Dingle.
Poor Moira could be caught up in both storylines and the drama that follows the new arrivals in the village. Ray will be played by Joe Absolom, whose top credentials include EastEnders, Doc Martin, The Bay and more recently Code Of Silence.
As for Celia, the mystery farmer is portrayed by Casualty and The Bill favourite Jaye Griffiths. It's safe to say the castings of both TV stars have created a buzz on set, with stars thrilled to be working alongside them.
Fans have been equally excited to see what the two new cast additions will bring to the village, praising both of them and eager to find out what their characters will get up to. The jury is out for now on whether Celia will be a baddie or not, with so much more to be revealed about the newcomer - while Ray appears to be very much confirmed as the latest village bad guy.
What we can reveal for now is that Celia's entrance next week leaves one life on the line, while there's possible drama in the works for her and Moira. Vet Paddy Kirk spots a sheep trapped in the fence of Celia's land and goes to help it, only to be attacked by a dog.
The brutal attack leaves him in a life-threatening condition and he's soon rushed to hospital. When Paddy is later advised to confront the farmer it doesn't end well, and soon Paddy is left furious with Celia no doubt causing havoc.
At some point we'll see Moira and Celia come face-to-face too amid Moira's troubles on the farm, which are set to continue. Actress Natalie J Robb recently told The Mirror in an exclusive interview that Celia and Moira "will be rivals" as she hinted at some big drama there.
Bringing the show back to the farming roots, we could well see some classic soap feuding going on - or perhaps the pair might even unite. Expect tension and possible clashes though, as Celia will be keen on the land surrounding Moira's farm amid her financial woes.
It's said the newcomer "clearly means business" and will go to whatever lengths to get her own way, while she no doubt has a past with so much mystery surrounding her when she arrives. Sooner rather than later Celia's intentions will be clear.
Soap producer Laura Shaw recently shared: "While Celia has a tough edge with an air of respectability, the audience, and our villagers, will soon start to see what this woman is truly capable of.' It's one of her guard dogs that attacks Paddy too, and her reaction to the incident will show her "true colours".
It's been a while since we had a character like Celia on the show, and not just a standard villain but someone who causes chaos, upheaval while also harbouring secrets of their own. A proper rivalry, and someone to give Moira a reason to fight back, is just what we need and hopefully Celia will bring all the carnage.
As for Ray, fans will no doubt be fearing "another villain" and "another dark character" isn't what the show needs, amid complaints over dark storylines in soaps. But if Ray is anything like what cast members have described, we are certainly in for some huge scenes ahead, and possibly one of the best villainous villagers we've had for a long time.
Joe's performance has been described as "scary" and "menacing", with Mike Parr teasing the stuff so far is "really good". Fans will obviously make their own minds up on the character, but with him set to unsettle the lives of more than one resident, and possibly trigger the return of a character confirmed to be heading back to the show, it is all to play for.
There will be a dangerous outsider in the village in Ray, with it said some of fans' most loved characters will face danger along the way. We already know that Mackenzie Boyd and Aaron Dingle feature in massive episodes this September, with "life-changing" twists ahead, so could this involve Ray?
We also know that some of the teens will be dragged into his drug dealing world, so Ray's actions are set to no doubt impact the entire village. He's capable of anything, so we're willing to assume a villager or two, maybe more, will want him out of the way, and may find themselves up against him.
Expect angst, danger, twists and turns and tense scenes. To have two troubling characters with so much to be revealed arrive at the same time, and amid all the recent twists including John Sugden turning killer, Robert Sugden's return and Joe Tate's whodunnit and the rest, it's an epic time to be tuning into the soap, with it no doubt set to get stronger and more gripping as the weeks and months go on.

Sam Thompson says 'we faked it' as family bombshell unveiled on ITV DNA Journey
Sam Thompson and Marvin Humes appeared on ITV's DNA Journey on Thursday night and the former Made in Chelsea star had a surprising confession about his name Sam Thompson was left speechless as he learnt that his family 'faked' their last name to 'improve social standing'. The presenter and television personality teamed up with his mate Marvin Humes for ITV's DNA Journey, where famed duos delve into their lineage. The episode kicked off in Jamaica, unveiling Marvin's familial past and the decision to relocate to Britain, but what took Marvin aback was learning Sam knew nothing about his heritage. Sam, formerly of Made in Chelsea fame, voiced his bewilderment: "I really don't know why I haven't asked," showing signs of discomfort. He elaborated, "When you grow up with - I was on a show called Made in Chelsea, it's the posh thing. You almost don't want to know because you almost feel a bit bad." He also let slip that his surname isn't merely Thompson; it actually extends to De Courcy Thompson, further explaining why he chose to abbreviate it, reports the Manchester Evening News. "One, hard to spell. And two, you sound like a bit of a douche," Sam, 32, remarked before revealing, "We have a signet ring!". During the conversation with Marvin about his family, Marvin quickly changed the subject, cautioning Sam: "It can't be as nice and fluffy and unicorns and rainbows as it's been in Jamaica, and I'm sorry to say it, but it's looking like it's going to be you." Realising the implications, a visibly worried Sam replied when he discovered that his ancestor Charles Thompson had been in Jamaica in 1815, while Marvin comically wiped his forehead, saying, "This is going to get deep." Further details made Sam even more anxious, to which he responded: "That doesn't sound good. That sounds really bad." However, there was a twist; his ancestor Charles Thompson turned out to be a prominent figure in the Enniskillen Regiment of Foot during the Battle of Waterloo against Napoleon. Sam exclaimed with unbridled relief: "Oh my god, I'm so happy! Oh, you really scared me! You were all thinking it.." As for the fabricated nobility, it emerged that Charles's offspring Lesley invented the name De Courcy for his son Sydney to boost their societal status. Finding amusement in this, Sam laughed heartily and said: "We faked it and I'm over the moon. I've got a signet ring and it doesn't mean anything. We just gave it to ourselves. It's like those people who buy a knighthood just to call themselves sir or lady. That's us!".

Brian May in shock over claims Freddie Mercury fathered secret lovechild
Brian May has poured cold water on rumours that Freddie Mercury secretly fathered a child during an alleged affair, with the Queen guitarist casting doubt on the sensational claims. Queen legend Brian May has been left stunned by bombshell claims that Freddie Mercury secretly fathered a child — but says he's not convinced. His wife, EastEnders icon Anita Dobson, revealed her jaw dropped when she heard the shocking news: 'I went 'what?' I thought, 'No!' I said to Brian: 'Do you know about this?' And he said: 'Do you believe this?'' The jaw-dropping claims come from a new biography by author Lesley-Ann Jones, who says Freddie has a 48-year-old daughter known only as 'B' — and insists she has DNA proof to back it up, reports the Mirror. The writer claims the child was conceived in 1976 during an affair between Freddie and the wife of a close friend. The woman now lives in Europe and is a mum herself. She says the Bohemian Rhapsody singer kept in regular contact, called her daily while on tour, and even gave her 17 volumes of handwritten journals before his tragic death in 1991. But Anita isn't buying it — and says it's hard to believe such a huge secret could've stayed buried for decades. She said: 'There must be lots of people who have children that we don't know about. It's just because it's him. Because he's iconic. And the type of animal that he was, it seems inconceivable that he would have a child with someone we don't know about. "If he does have one where is she - step forward. If she exists. Maybe it is just more fake news.' The book, titled 'Love, Freddie', is due out in September and claims Mercury even told his Queen bandmates about the girl. In a letter printed in the book, B writes: 'Freddie Mercury was and is my father. We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the final 15 years of his life. The circumstances of my birth may seem unusual and even outrageous — that should come as no surprise.' She claims Mercury even had a room of his own in her childhood home and made sure to see her regularly. Writer Jones has defended the book, saying all necessary legal and DNA checks were carried out: 'Verification was obtained, legal teams have been involved — but such measures are private and not shared publicly.' She also hit back at suggestions the journals were AI-generated fakes, writing: 'To those saying his daughter 'doesn't exist' and I made it up — wait and see. His own story, told in his own words, is incredible. I love him all the more for it. You will too.'

Sam Thompson says 'we faked it' over family name bombshell on DNA Journey
The Made in Chelsea star discovered the truth about his real name in the latest episode of ITV's DNA Journey, which saw him team up with pal Marvin Humes Sam Thompson has been left gobsmacked after a family history exploration on ITV's 'DNA Journey' presented him with a surprising revelation about his name, only to discover it wasn't quite true. Joining Marvin Humes on the popular ancestry show 'DNA Journey', the presenter and reality TV favourite set out to trace his lineage, uncovering some unexpected tales along the way. Starting off in sunny Jamaica, Marvin uncovered moving stories about his ancestors' migration to Britain, while he was stunned to learn that his mate Sam had no clue about his own family's past. Feeling rather sheepish, the ex-'Made In Chelsea' star confessed: "I really don't know why I haven't asked," as he mused over the potential awkwardness brought by the show's posh image. "When you grow up with - I was on a show called Made in Chelsea, it's the posh thing. You almost don't want to know because you almost feel a bit bad." He also revealed that Thompson isn't his full surname. The family name is actually De Courcy Thompson and the former Made in Chelsea star explained the decision to drop part of it, reports the Manchester Evening News. Sam, 32, candidly expressed his views on having a hard-to-spell name and feeling pretentious, cheekily remarking: "We have a signet ring!". Upon uncovering family history, Marvin flipped the script, cautioning Sam with a mixture of jest and solemnity: "It can't be as nice and fluffy and unicorns and rainbows as it's been in Jamaica, and I'm sorry to say it, but it's looking like it's going to be you." Alarm flickered across Sam's face when learning about his ancestor Charles Thompson's stint in Jamaica in 1815, while Marvin played up the tension, saying: "This is going to get deep." As historical connections were drawn, Sam anxiously responded: "That doesn't sound good. That sounds really bad." But, to Sam's delight, the true legacy of Charles Thompson unfolded; he was not what Sam feared but rather a notable figure in defeating Napoleon at Waterloo. An elated Sam exclaimed: "Oh my god, I'm so happy! Oh, you really scared me! You were all thinking it..." The revelation continued that it was Charles' son Lesley who crafted the De Courcy surname for his own son Sydney, giving the family a veneer of distinction. Sam laughed as he said: "We faked it and I'm over the moon. I've got a signet ring and it doesn't mean anything. We just gave it to ourselves. It's like those people who buy a knighthood just to call themselves sir or lady. That's us!"
