Hosting events to drive growth in Oman
Khalid al Sunaidi, Engineer
As Oman continues to rise as a global player in tourism and sports, it's essential we diversify the events we host to attract various demographics. International events such as golf tournaments, sustainability summits and cultural festivals are good opportunities to showcase the diverse beauty and progressive vision of our country. The global spotlight is on Oman and it's the perfect time to host events that appeal to both leisure travellers and business leaders
Amal al Harthy, Writer
Oman's rich history and cultural heritage offer a unique opportunity for us to host global cultural festivals. From the preservation of Omani music and arts to showcasing our culinary heritage, festivals that celebrate traditional craftsmanship, storytelling and music could create a deeper connection between Oman and the world. These events would not only attract tourists but also establish Oman as a centre for the preservation of Arab culture.
Rahul Kumar, Teacher
Hosting an event like Tour of Oman is just the beginning. I believe Oman could also shine in hosting high-profile international marathons and triathlons, attracting athletes from across the globe to test themselves against the natural beauty of our landscapes. Additionally, Oman could host international sailing regattas in our pristine waters, offering both adventure and luxury tourism experiences.
Sarah al Muqbali, Doctor
Oman is known for its stunning landscapes, so it makes perfect sense to host adventure sports events such as desert marathons, rock climbing competitions or even sandboarding tournaments. Such events could put us on the map for sports tourism while also highlighting our commitment to sustainability by promoting eco-friendly events.
Faisal al Balushi, Cyclist
Tour of Oman has already demonstrated our ability to host top-tier international cycling events, but I believe Oman can also become a hub for mountain biking competitions, particularly in the rugged terrain of the Al Hajar Mountains. Oman's diverse landscapes offer incredible opportunities for more extreme sports, and bringing these events here would not only attract cyclists but also adventure enthusiasts from around the world.
Khalid Tabook, Environmentalist
Oman is uniquely positioned to host international conferences on sustainability, especially in the areas of renewable energy, conservation and green technologies. With our commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, global leaders and innovators would benefit from gathering here to exchange ideas and solutions. I envision Oman as a leader in the green sector, and hosting such conferences would cement our status as a forward-thinking nation.
Ahmed al Jabri, Investor
Oman's potential for international business conferences and trade fairs is huge. I believe we could host global innovation expos or startup competitions that not only showcase Omani talent but also attract international investors. Events like Oman Innovation Week could bring together entrepreneurs, scientists and business leaders from all over the world to collaborate and innovate, boosting our economy while positioning Oman as a hub for innovation.
Hamad al Riyami, Horse rider
Oman's mild climate during the winter months makes it an attractive destination for golf and hosting events like European Tour events or other top-tier golfing competitions such as Pro-Am Golf Tournaments. Oman also has a long tradition of equestrianism, and hosting high-profile events like International Polo Tournaments and horse racing events should come naturally.
