'WONDERFUL MAN' Michael Mosley's wife Clare speaks out about his shocking death last year in Greece
THE wife of tragic telly doctor Michael Mosley has spoken out about his shocking death - saying he collapsed after wandering off because 'he got bored'.
Clare Mosely, 63, said husband Michael, who died while holidaying in Greece last June, told her he was going exploring and agreed to meet her back at their villa.
The daytime TV regular, 67, was found dead days after going missing while on a walk on holiday on the Greek island of Symi amid intense 37C temperatures last summer.
In her first interview, Clare told the Daily Mail: 'We'd only been there for half a day before it happened…typically, Michael got bored.
'He wasn't enjoying his book and he doesn't really like lying on beaches so he said, 'I'm going exploring. I'm off for a walk'.
'He agreed to meet us back at our friends' villa.
'I gave him my litre bottle of water and in his rather eccentric way, he had an umbrella to shield him from the sun. It was 1.30pm and he was given instructions on where to walk.
'He set off at a good pace, his rucksack on his back, up a steep hill. He hadn't brought his phone because he didn't want to risk it getting wet on the boat.'
Clare said that she got concerned when he failed to return and that when she reported him missing the police told her they couldn't do anything as he needed to have been gone for 48 hours.
She added: ''Feeling things weren't right, we went to the police station and reported him missing. The police said, 'We can't do anything about it until he's been gone for 48 hours'.
'I said, 'What, in this heat?' It was 40 degrees, the hottest day for decades.
'I had to push really hard, but finally they agreed to get a local search-and-rescue team out, then we went to the little hospital, but there was no sign of him there.'
Reason why Dr Michael Mosley made ill-fated decision to leave phone before doomed walk revealed in cause-of-death update
Michael's body was finally found by journalists, including one from The Sun, just 100 yards from the safety of a restaurant and 150 yards from a spot searched by a 100-person rescue team only days earlier.
Clare, who married Michael in 1987, called him "my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband".

Rose West has new grandchild after son welcomes baby with former model
Rose West has another grandchild after her son welcomed a baby with his fiancée, a former model. Stephen West, 51, and Emma Bradley have had a baby daughter called Eden – though it is unlikely Rose will ever see the child, as her son has cut all ties with his mother. Serial killer Rose, 71, is currently serving a life order in jail, after she and her husband Fred, Stephen's father, tortured and murdered at least ten young women between 1973 and 1987. She also killed her eight-year-old step daughter Charmaine in 1971. It's understood Stephen and Emma got together despite concerns raised by Emma's family over Stephen, who was jailed for nine months in 2004 for seven counts of underage sex with a 14-year-old girl. Sources told The Sun that Stephen makes her relatives 'uncomfortable' and the relationship has created a 'rift' in the family. The pair are reportedly getting married in Newport in August. Emma, a nurse who works at Gloucester Royal Hospital and was once a model, has two daughters from a previous relationship. She and Stephen had watched the new Netflix documentary, Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story, according to one source, but she said her fiancé 'doesn't want to say anything because his main priority is the little ones'. Stephen – who grew up in the house where most of the murders happened – has been married twice before and now has eight children. He is also a grandfather. He once acknowledged sharing certain characteristics with Fred, saying: 'There's a bit of my dad in me.' Rose, who has spent almost 30 years in jail, is thought to have given up attempts to appeal her 2001 conviction and has accepted she will die behind bars. She has reportedly been moved to a disabled room at HMP New Hall near Wakefield, West Yorkshire, after suffering ill health and struggling to walk. A source told the Sun: 'She never really leaves the wing she's held on and is escorted all the time by prison officers if she goes anywhere. 'Sometimes she sits in the communal areas on her own.' Rose is thought to have changed her name by deed poll in December to Jennifer Jones to distance herself from her crimes. More Trending But the source added: 'No one talks to her because everyone knows who she is and what she did, even if she has changed her name. 'When I was there, she tried to make friends with the other women and gave them gifts, like vapes, but she was rejected.' They said she likes to watch nature documentaries on her TV in her cell, 'especially ones about birds'. Fred West – who committed at least 12 murders – was found dead in his prison cell in 1995 after taking his own life. Rose West's paedo son's fiancee shares what life is like as killer's 'in-law'
Stephen West, son of serial killers Fred and Rose West, has a daughter with his former glamour model girlfriend Emma Bradley - but the tot will never meet her infamous grandparents Former glamour model Emma Bradley has spoken publicly about her relationship with Stephen West, the paedophile son of notorious serial killers Fred and Rose West. Despite apparent concerns from her family, Emma chose to settle down with 51-year-old Stephen, and the couple recently welcomed a daughter named Eden. Their baby girl will never meet her infamous grandparents - Fred died by suicide in 1995 while awaiting trial for 12 murders, and Rose is currently serving a life sentence for the rape, torture, and murder of 10 women and girls. Stephen has since severed all contact with his mother. Emma's family reportedly expressed alarm over Stephen's criminal past. He previously served time for engaging in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl, for which he was convicted of seven counts of underage sex. Stephen has acknowledged the darkness in his background, once saying, "There's a bit of my dad in me." Nevertheless, Emma appears deeply committed to Stephen and is planning to marry him in August at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport. The couple now live together in Abbeymead, Gloucester - just five miles from 25 Cromwell Street, the infamous 'House of Horrors' where Fred and Rose committed their crimes. After modelling for publications such as Nuts and Zoo in her early twenties, Emma has transitioned to a career in healthcare and now works as a nurse at Gloucester Royal Hospital. She reportedly previously dated public figures such as ex-Arsenal footballer Paul Merson and singer Dane Bowers. Following reports that Rose may be in poor health at HMP New Hall in West Yorkshire, Emma shared rare insight into life with the West's, telling The Sun that neither she nor Stephen are in contact with the killer matriarch. 'Stephen doesn't want to say anything because his main priority is the little ones,' she said. 'He is adamant, at this time of his life he's got a young family to protect." Emma and Stephen share four daughters, the eldest of whom is 17. She added that while they 'don't know about the family history', she believes they are "old enough to be aware but too young to understand". Sources close to Emma's family say they remain uneasy about her relationship with Stephen due to his background and criminal history. Stephen, formerly a builder, is currently unemployed. Stephen was sentenced to nine months in prison in 2004 after an eight-month relationship with a 14-year-old girl, during which he arranged for her to have an abortion. He later claimed that his traumatic upbringing contributed to the relationship. Now 51, Stephen has been married twice before his engagement to Emma and has eight children and several grandchildren. Having grown up in the Wests' house of horrors, he cut ties with Rose in 1999. He later revealed she had blamed him for the family's crimes - including the murder of his older sister, Heather. "She rang me in 1999 full of hatred," Stephen said. "She told me I should have died at birth and called me a disgrace to the family. You don't need enemies when you've got family like that."

Rose West welcomes granddaughter after paedophile son has baby with former model
Serial killer Rose West has become a grandmother again after her paedophile son Stephen, 51, and his fiancée Emma Bradley, 39, welcomed a baby girl named Eden. Rose West has welcomed another grandchild into the world after her son fathered a child with an ex-glamour model. Stephen West and his betrothed Emma Bradley are now parents to little Eden, yet 71 year old Rose, behind bars serving a whole life term, will never meet her newest grandchild due to Stephen severing all contact with his notorious mother. Despite the trepidation of Emma's kin over their romance, given Stephen's past conviction in 2004 for underage sex offences, the couple forged ahead. The 51 year old who once lived in the gruesome family home confessed: "There's a bit of my dad in me." His infamous father, Fred West, committed a series of murders with Rose between 1967 and 1987 in Gloucestershire. In 1995, Fred was discovered deceased in his cell. Nearly three decades into her incarceration, Rose has reportedly ceased efforts to contest her judgment since 2001 and seems to accept her fate in prison. Now, insiders relay to The Sun that Stephen and Emma plan to exchange vows come August at Newport's Celtic Manor hotel, reports the Mirror. Despite this happy occasion, it is understood from a source that Emma's family remains unsupportive of the match, discomforted by Stephen and citing "a rift" created in the family. Emma, a trained nurse stationed at Gloucester Royal Hospital, brings two daughters from a former relationship into the fold. Following unsettling reports indicating that Rose may be struggling with her health and has been transferred to a disabled room in prison "because she can barely walk," Emma disclosed that she and her partner were oblivious as they maintain no contact. Acknowledging that they've watched the new Netflix documentary Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story, Emma revealed that her fiancé Stephen "doesn't want to say anything because his main priority is the little ones." She elaborated: "He is adamant, at this time of his life he's got a young family to protect." Stephen, himself a grandfather, has eight children from two previous marriages. As for Rose's experiences behind bars, an insider divulged to The Sun: "She never really leaves the wing she's held on and is escorted all the time by prison officers if she goes anywhere. Sometimes she sits in the communal areas on her own. "No one talks to her because everyone knows who she is and what she did, even if she has changed her name. When I was there, she tried to make friends with the other women and gave them gifts, like vapes, but she was rejected. She likes to watch nature documentaries on the TV in her cell, especially ones about birds." In an effort to distance herself from her heinous acts, it's purported that West shelled out £36 to officially adopt the name Jennifer Jones. Reports suggest she went through the deed poll process last December, expressing to acquaintances that it represents a step towards moving forward. Nonetheless, her true identity remains common knowledge at the all-female HMP New Hall near Wakefield in West Yorkshire. Some prisoners reject her overtures of companionship, leading her to consume tomato soup solitarily in her cell for breakfast, followed by prolonged periods of knitting and conversing with the television due to her limited mobility. West is currently detained in New Hall's designated section called Rivendell House, where she occupies one of the 30 en-suite cells available to inmates, each furnished with a laptop for ordering food. Inspection reports suggest that the shared spaces in this unit are "more inviting" compared to other areas within the prison.
