See the proof footy legend Billy Slater's teenage son has the talent to follow in his dad's footsteps

Daily Maila day ago
Billy Slater's son, Jake, has been branded a 'chip off the old block' after showcasing his skills during an U15s match this week.
Jake was representing Victoria during the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League Championships during their Pool B clash against the Northern Territory.
The side ran out a 26-10 victory against their opponents, having previously beaten West Australia in the competition but were defeated by the First Nations Goannas on Monday. The win saw Victoria advance to the final of the competition, which will be played on Friday.
Victoria were leading Northern Territory 20-10 heading into the final two minutes of the match and had advanced their way up to Northern Territory's try line.
Jake received the ball off the back of a ruck 10m out and faked a dummy pass out wide, sending multiple Northern Territory defenders off-balance.
The young footy player then cut back inside off his right foot and showed his acceleration to dart past one advancing defender before sliding down across the whitewash, showing shades of his NRL great dad.

Members of his team surrounded him in celebration as his side would go on to seal a 26-10 victory, while others online also lauded the youngster and his team-mate.
'Love seeing the next generation shine!' one wrote on X. 'Jake's got that Slater magic - great vision and footwork just like his dad. Big future ahead.'
'Chip off the old block that Jake,' another said.
His dad, Billy, enjoyed a glittering career in footy's top flight, scoring 191 tries for the Melbourne Storm, winning two premierships with the side across his 15-year playing career.
Slater now turns his attention to next week's State of Origin decider, as Queensland look to wrestle back the shield from New South Wales.
Slater has handed a shock Origin recall to 33-year-old Josh Papalii, a move that has raised a lot of eyebrows around the NRL world.
The Raiders star last played for the Maroons in 2022, but Slater believes he still has the fire to help his side win the series.
'It's probably something that I've had in the back of my mind for a couple of years now, in particular this year, the way that Big Papa has been playing for Canberra and the performances he's been putting in,' Slater said.
'I spoke to Papa a couple of days ago and the response was pretty much where my head was at, which was fantastic.
'It just shows you that he's still got that fire to play for this footy team, he's got that fire to represent the people of Queensland and he's got that fire to go out and do a good job for his state, so I was pleased to hear that.
'He's got an aura about him, he's a real warrior and has been for this footy team for a long time.

Ryan Reynolds left in no doubt as James McClean gets honest about Wrexham role

Ryan Reynolds left in no doubt as James McClean gets honest about Wrexham role Wrexham have won three promotions in a row to reach the Championship and skipper James McClean has opened up on the impact of Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney James McClean has praised Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney for their impact at Wrexham (Image: Robbie Jay Barratt - AMA/Getty Images ) Wrexham captain James McClean has hailed the extent of involvement by co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in operating the club. The Hollywood duo have rejuvenated the Welsh side since taking over more than four years ago. Wrexham have secured three consecutive promotions under the guidance of manager Phil Parkinson, catapulting them from the National League to the Championship. ‌ Former Republic of Ireland international McClean has been instrumental in their ascent, contributing significantly to their recent triumphs in League One and League Two. And the 36-year-old wing-back has commended Reynolds and McElhenney for not meddling with team affairs. ‌ The celebrity pair contribute hugely in other areas, helping to enhance the club's profile through the 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary, offering guidance to the squad, and making shrewd business moves to boost funds. McClean has now given credit to the actors for entrusting football-related choices to Parkinson and his coaching team. He spoke highly of his experience at the club so far, saying it has made him want to carry on playing for as long as possible. "It's class and I've found a place where I'm appreciated," McClean told the Irish News. "People have got a lot of respect for me and when that's the case, obviously I'll go above and beyond to repay that. Article continues below McClean has played a key role in Wrexham's recent promotions (Image: Robbie Jay Barratt - AMA via Getty ) "It has given me a new lease to life, I'm enjoying my football and I feel like I can do this for a long time yet. Rob and Ryan are 100 per cent part of it, but they are very clever men. They are part of it to a certain extent. "They obviously don't get involved with team affairs, they leave that to the managers, but to have owners involved as they are in the right way, it's class. There are no words to describe the impact that they've had and the praise they deserve, because it's absolutely above and beyond." ‌ Wrexham are currently gearing up to compete in the Championship after a 43-year absence. Parkinson has strengthened his squad for the challenge ahead, enlisting Plymouth forward Ryan Hardie and Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward, with more signings anticipated. Despite some analysts already doubting Wrexham's ability to secure an extraordinary fourth straight promotion, the manager is poised to receive hearty backing from Reynolds and McElhenney during the summer transfer window. ‌ And McClean is feeling confident after issuing a note of caution against underestimating the club's chances of reaching the Premier League for the first time in their history. The former Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion player said: "The rise of the club from where it was a few years ago to where it is now is great. We'll go into the season with people telling us 'this can't be done' and 'that can't be done' and 'this is a step too far', but with Wrexham it's the old fairytale story and let's see how we get on." McClean added: "We we told two in a row would have been tough, three in a row would be impossible and four in a row is just non-existent and it won't happen. We've done the previous ones, so I wouldn't put it past us doing the unthinkable."
