'They believe in what we're building here' Mike Elko is bullish on Texas A&M's 2025 season
Wednesday night's Brazos Country Coach's Night saw Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko, ahead his second season at the helm, preview what fans and media should expect from the Aggies after the small sample size presented during the Maroon & White spring game.
Starting off the night with a bang, Elko revealed that star senior running back Le'Veon Moss, whose season ending knee injury led to the Aggies' poor play down the stretch last season, is 100% healthy after spending the latter half of the 2024 campaign recovering, while his rehab this spring was faster than expected.
Overall, Elko is very bullish regarding the offense and defense improving next season, mainly due to roster retention and key leaders returning on both sides.
"The core of our roster has battled through a lot of adversity here. They're here because they believe in Texas A&M. They believe in what we're building here. I believe we have kids who are truly committed to Texas A&M and what it stands for."
On defense, Elko brought in James Madison defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill to help fix the technical issues in the secondary, which included three horrific performances against Auburn, Texas, and USC in the Las Vegas Bowl, all resulting in losses.
"We all understand how we finished the year. We played three bad games of defense to finish the year. We're all aware of that. That's not how we play defense at Texas A&M. We have to have a better commitment for getting the job done at a higher level."
Again, "show, don't tell" is the theme for most of the Aggie fan base, but trusting Elko's defensive mindset is key, knowing that he is taking a bigger hand in the playcalling and overall structure compared to Jay Bateman's full control last season.
Texas A&M's defense is relatively deep at nearly every position, and trusting Elko and his staff fix the remaining issues is all anyone can do, knowing that they at least have film to go off of compared to entering the 2024 season without anything to go off of.

Sooners freshman catcher Corri Hicks enters the transfer portal
Sooners freshman catcher Corri Hicks enters the transfer portal The Oklahoma Sooners are in offseason mode after being eliminated from the 2025 Women's College World Series in their 3-2 loss to Texas Tech. The Sooners will regroup and retool to make another run in 2026, but they've already experienced their first transfer portal loss. True freshman catcher Corri Hicks entered the transfer portal on Tuesday evening. Hicks was considered the No. 12 player in the 2024 recruiting class and the No. 2 catcher. She played a limited role for the Sooners in 2025 but made an impact off the bench. In her lone season with the Sooners, Hicks hit .261 with three home runs, eight RBIs, five walks, and had an on-base+slugging percentage of 1.045. She went 2-for-4 in the NCAA Tournament with a home run against Boston and a base hit against Cal. Texas A&M will host the No. 1-ranked 2026 prospect in Iowa this week
Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class is expected to continue growing this summer, heading into the 2025 season. As we've already witnessed under head coach Mike Elko, recruiting the entire country has not been an issue, with the team dominating the East and West Coasts, similar to former head coach Jimbo Fisher. This month, Texas A&M will host a wide range of elite 2026 prospects, which now includes four-star tight end Evan Jacobson out of Waukee, Iowa. Standing at 6'7" and 200 pounds, Jacobson is already an elite red zone target who thrives in the seam, possessing enough speed and twitch to outmaneuver smaller defenders. Playing in a run-heavy offense, which is very common in Iowa, Jacobson has been Waukee's most reliable receiving target throughout his starting career, thriving in the short game. At the same time, his size advantage has made him a sneaky deep threat. Like many tight end prospects, Jacobson will improve as a route runner once he enters a collegiate program. In Texas A&M OC Collin Klein's tight end-centric scheme, he could turn into one of the better SEC tight ends going into his second or third season. According to the man himself, Jacobson will head to College Station on Thursday, June 5, and spend the weekend with the Aggies for his first official visit. According to 247Sports, Evan Jacobson is currently positioned as the 175th-ranked prospect in the class, the 11th-ranked tight end, and the No. 1-ranked prospect in Iowa. Steelers TE Donald Parham suffers season-ending injury at OTAs
Steelers TE Donald Parham suffers season-ending injury at OTAs The Pittsburgh Steelers added tight end Donald Parham to help bolster the passing game but his season ended before it began when he suffered a torn Achilles at OTA practice. This could be why it was previously reported that the Steelers have renewed their interest in trading for Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith. Parham is a well-traveled player. He started his NFL career in Detroit in 2019 as an undrafted free agent. Parham bounced around between several teams that year before settling in with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020. He spent four seasons in Los Angeles and had 67 receptions in 47 career games. 23 of those games were starts. With Parham out for the year, the Steelers are back to square one for depth at tight end. Pat Freiermuth will serve as the team's No. 1 tight end and primary target in the passing game with Darnell Washington as the primary backup and Connor Heyward rounding things out. With Parham lost for the year, another pass-catching tight end becomes a significant need so don't expect the talk about Smith to go away, no matter who the Steelers might bring in at wide receiver.
