Tata Elxsi unveils battery 'aadhaar' for end-to-end traceability
demonstrated battery 'aadhaar', a technology solution designed to enhance traceability, regulatory compliance, and lifecycle transparency in India's battery ecosystem, at the Battery Summit 2025 organised by the World Resources Institute (WRI) India.
The initiative is part of a consortium effort involving Tata Motors, Tata AutoComp Systems, IIT Kharagpur, WRI, LOHUM Cleantech, NUNAM Technologies, and Oorja Energy. It aligns with India's goals for
sustainable mobility
and circular energy systems and is supported under the UNEP-led programme 'Electrifying Mobility in Cities', coordinated by NITI Aayog and the Department of Science & Technology, the company said in a media release.
Battery aadhaar
provides batteries with secure digital identities, capturing data such as manufacturer information, usage history, and material composition to enable traceability throughout the battery lifecycle — from raw material sourcing to second-life use and recycling. The system aims to address issues related to unsafe reuse, regulatory non-compliance, and environmental risk.
Technology and demonstration details
The solution is built on Tata Elxsi's MOBIUS+ platform, which integrates blockchain technology for traceability, dynamic data flows, and automated compliance reporting. The platform supports creation of Battery Aadhaar and Digital Product Passports (DPP), chain of custody and lifecycle mapping, and role-based dashboards for stakeholders including OEMs, manufacturers, recyclers, and regulators. It also provides real-time analytics such as battery health prediction and residual life estimation.
Anil Radhakrishnan, Chief Product Officer at Tata Elxsi, said, 'MOBIUS+ is designed to accelerate the transition to a cleaner mobility future by enabling digital transparency, traceability, and compliance through initiatives like Battery Aadhaar. Our goal is to empower stakeholders across the ecosystem with scalable, future-ready solutions that support India's green growth ambitions.'
The platform aligns with Indian regulatory frameworks and is adaptable to international standards such as the EU Battery Regulation and emerging regulations in Japan and North America. The demonstration included QR code-based access to real-time battery data, providing stakeholders with direct visibility into the battery's status and compliance information.

Trump remarks on India-U.S. trade deal and hints at 20-25% tariff, again claims credit for ceasefire between India and Pak.
Just days ahead of the self-imposed August 1 deadline date before the tariffs come into effect, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the India-US trade deal was 'working out very well' but hinted at a 20% to 25% tariff on New Delhi. During a gaggle with the press interaction aboard Air Force One on Tuesday (local time), Mr. Trump responded to a report suggesting that India might be preparing for 20 to 25% tariffs, stating that India had been imposing higher tariffs on the U.S. as compared to other countries. He further mentioned that all this would come to an end as he is now 'in charge.' However, Trump hasn't sent any letters to India announcing the tariff imposed on New Delhi, as he did for many other nations. 'India has been a good friend. But India has charged basically more tariffs than almost any other country over the years. But now I'm in charge. And you just can't do that. I think the trade deals are working out very well. Hopefully for everybody, but for the United States, they're very, very good,' the US President said. Earlier on April 22, Trump imposed a tariff of 26% on Indian goods imported to the US, before announcing a pause on those 'reciprocal' levies. Meanwhile, the Union Minister for Commerce, Piyush Goyal, on Sunday, stated that the trade discussion between India and the U.S. had been going 'very well.' 'India today negotiates from a position of strength, a position of confidence. It is this very confidence that continuously encourages us to make good free trade agreements... Our discussions with the United States are progressing very well,' he stated. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, during PM Modi's visit to the U.K. last week, also stated that India had been actively engaged in discussions with the US on a potential Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), emphasising the ongoing contacts with partners in the US. During a press conference following the signing of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement, Misri stated, 'We are discussing that under a different vertical. All I can say is that our engagement is underway. The contacts are underway, and we'll see how that goes.' On July 14, a senior government official stated that India was making concrete progress toward finalising a BTA with the US, with both countries committed to following the path outlined by their respective leaders. Speaking on the ongoing trade negotiations, the official emphasised that India is 'moving in terms of a BTA' and actively 'looking at a mutually beneficial deal' that would serve the interests of both nations. Trump repeats claim of brokering ceasefire Mr. Trump also used the opportunity to once again claim credit for his role in brokering the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, following the recent conflict in May. The conflict was triggered by the April 22 Pahalgam terror attacks, which killed 26 people, and India's subsequent response, 'Operation Sindoor,' involving precision strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). He also praised India's leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its role in regional stability. 'Look, India, they're my friends and he's [PM Modi] my friend and you know they ended the war with Pakistan and by request and I was great and Pakistan did also. We did a lot of great settlements,' he said. India had repeatedly refuted the claims made by the U.S. President, noting that it was Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) who contacted their Indian counterpart to request an end to hostilities, following which the ceasefire was then agreed upon.

India's tea production increases in 2025, Darjeeling's output remains a concern
While the production of tea in the country from January to May 2025 increased by 25.76% compared to last year, the output of Darjeeling tea that dropped by 10.34% in the same period remains a matter of concern. The production of tea across the country from January to May 2025 stood at 336.22 million kilograms compared to 267.36 million kilograms between January to May 2024. 'For January–May 2025, provisional data indicates a recovery, with All-India production rising by 25.76% in the same period of 2024. Regionally, West Bengal saw a 44% rise, while Assam recorded a 14% growth,' a press statement by the Tea Board said on Tuesday (July 29, 2025). For Darjeeling tea, the production between January to May 2025 was 1.34 Mkg compared to 1.47 Mkg in the same period in 2023. The shortfall in 2025 can be pegged at 18.24%. According to Tea Board, the tea production figures show a relative improvement compared to the poor production in 2024, but in comparison to 2023 levels, most regions have experienced a decline in production. 'The production shortfall is largely attributed to unfavourable weather conditions, compounded by pest attacks that have further impacted the industry,' the press statement added. The Tea Board also added that production of 'Big Growers' (Registered Tea Gardens) has declined by 12.89% in West Bengal and 8.65% in Assam compared to 2023 level'. Unfavourable weather conditions The Tea Board said the challenges faced by industry include unfavourable climate conditions. 'A 2°C rise in average day temperatures and reduced rainfall compared to last year led to dry conditions, stressing tea growth and resulting in a 20-25% production drop in key tea growing regions of Assam & West Bengal,' the press statement said. On the price front, the auction prices for CTC Leaf and Dust have declined by almost 7% in Assam and 9.5% in Dooars/Terai from April to late July 2025, which are a concern for the industry's financial sustainability. The country's tea exports for January–April 2025 totalled 85.77 Mkg, marginally down by 0.18 Mkg (-0.22%) compared to 85.95 Mkg in 2024. Rising imports India's tea imports from January to March 2025, rose to 9.86 Mkg from 5.12 Mkg in 2024, with Kenya's imports doubling (4.26 Mkg vs. 2.05 Mkg). 'A significant influx of tea imports in 2024 and early 2025 has contributed to depressing prices. Total imports in 2024 surged by 82% to 44.53 Mkg from 24.52 Mkg in 2023, with Kenya and Nepal accounting for 74% of the total,' the Tea Board data stated.

Delhi Govt Clears Night Shift Policy For Women; Safety Protocols Made Mandatory In Shops, Workplaces
The proposal, following prior discussions, will now be sent to the lieutenant governor for approval With an aim to boost women's participation in Delhi's workforce and to make the national capital a round-the-clock business hub, the city government on Tuesday gave its nod to the night shift policy for women in shops and commercial establishments. In an official statement, the Rekha Gupta-led government said that currently, Sections 14, 15, and 16 of the Delhi Shops and Establishments Act, 1954, prohibit women from working between 9 pm and 7 am during summers and between 8 pm and 8 am during winters. L-G nod needed The proposal, following prior discussions, will now be sent to the lieutenant governor for approval. To implement it, exemptions will be made under Sections 14, 15, and 16 of the Delhi Shops and Establishments Act, 1954. The forthcoming amendment will remove these restrictions, enabling women to work night shifts across the city. 'In a major step towards empowering women and enhancing their self-reliance, the Delhi Government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has taken a landmark decision to allow women to work in night shifts (24×7) in shops and commercial establishments," the statement reads. Women's safety a priority Highlighting the safety framework, the chief minister stated that stringent measures are being implemented to ensure women's security during night shifts, including compulsory transportation facilities and comprehensive CCTV surveillance. She noted that similar permissions are already in place in Haryana, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. To safeguard women working on night shifts, a comprehensive set of conditions will be mandatory for all establishments. 'Written consent of female employees will be required prior to assigning night shifts. Workplaces must have CCTV surveillance, female security guards, and secure transport facilities. Each establishment must also constitute an Internal Complaints Committee under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act. Furthermore, restrooms, toilets, lockers, and other basic amenities must be provided," the government stated. Additional conditions include mandatory electronic payment of wages (bank/ECS), provision of all statutory benefits, including ESI, bonus, provident fund, as well as weekly offs and overtime compensation. Gupta stated that this decision will not only contribute to making Delhi a 24×7 business hub but also significantly enhance women's participation in the workforce and improve the city's ease of doing business rankings. 'This policy would play a pivotal role in establishing Delhi as a 24×7 business hub and underscores the government's commitment to women's empowerment and economic independence," she said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
