South Africa tightened their grip on the first T20I at Darwin, reducing Australia to 73/5 in 6.4 overs after winning the toss and opting to bowl.
The visitors made early inroads, with Kagiso Rabada removing Travis Head for 2 and Mitchell Marsh for 13, while George Linde dismissed Josh Inglis for a golden duck. Kwena Maphaka was outstanding in the field, taking two superb catches in the deep during the powerplay.
Australia's counterattack came through Cameron Green and Tim David, with Green blasting 35 off 13 balls and David striking freely. However, Green fell to a slower ball from Lungi Ngidi, caught by Ryan Rickelton, leaving the hosts four down at the end of the powerplay.
In the seventh over, Kwena Maphaka claimed his first wicket, bowling Mitchell Owen for 2. The left-arm quick delivered a full, accurate delivery that beat Owen for pace and crashed into the stumps, leaving Australia with half their side back in the pavilion before the innings had even reached the halfway stage.
At 73/5, Tim David was batting on 19 off 8 balls, holding Australia's hopes of posting a competitive total.

'Up for the taking': Collingwood could lose premiership star to rival AFL club

Leading AFL reporter Cal Twomey believes Jamie Elliott will remain at Collingwood, but the Pies could lose Brody Mihocek if a rival club makes him a better offer. Collingwood have the oldest roster in the AFL, with the average age of their squad almost two years older than the next highest. They recently re-signed Scott Pendlebury and extended the contract of Darcy Cameron, but are facing some tricky calls on some other ageing veterans. There's been suggestions Jeremy Howe could leave, while the futures of Elliott and Mihocek are also under a cloud. Speaking on SEN radio on Thursday, Twomey of said he thinks Elliott will likely stay. The 33-year-old has reportedly been drawing interest from the Gold Coast Suns, and is yet to accept an offer from the Magpies. 'I'm interested in what they do,' Twomey said. 'Elliott's got the two-year offer there (from Collingwood), and there's still no movement there at all. 'He has got a bit of a pull to Queensland, which we've known about previously as well. So, there's still a watch there. I think the most likely scenario would be that Elliott stays, particularly given his form this year.' Brody Mihocek 'up for the taking' from a rival AFL club Elliott and Mihocek are the Pies' two leading goal-kickers, and were both part of the premiership team in 2023. Elliott has 50 goals from 22 games so far in 2025, while Mihocek has 35 goals in 19 games. Mihocek is also set to turn 33 this year, and there's reports he's only been offered a one-year extension. Twomey believes the goal-kicker could be very gettable if a rival club trumps the Pies' offer. 'Mihocek I think is up for the taking if someone comes with a longer offer,' Twomey said. 'His manager has been overseas in recent weeks, so that's probably stopped that one in its tracks in recent times. 'Obviously, they're in the chase for Jack Silvagni as well as a free agent. So, they're juggling a few things after managing to get the Darcy Cameron deal done recently too.' As Twomey stated, Collingwood are trying to sign Silvagni from Carlton. However the Western Bulldogs are believed to be closing the gap after the Pies were initially believed to be the front-runners. Will Hoskin-Elliott announces retirement Elsewhere at Collingwood, fellow premiership player Will Hoskin-Elliott announced on Wednesday he'll retire at the end of the AFL season. The 31-year-old, who started his career as an inaugural GWS player, was a key member of the Magpies' flag triumph in 2023. However he was dropped for the loss against Adelaide last week, and faces a fight to win his spot back for the upcoming finals. Hoskin-Elliott has played 242 career games and told teammates and staff of his decision to hang up his boots on Wednesday. "I'm proud and honoured to call myself a Collingwood player and I have loved my time in the black and white," Hoskin-Elliott said. "I leave with incredible memories, lifelong friendships and I can't wait to see what the rest of this season holds for us. "Running out in the black and white, alongside my teammates, with the Magpie Army behind us, is so special. The feeling of hearing 'Collingwood' echo around the MCG, knowing we have such incredible fans, is what makes me so proud to play for Collingwood." The two-time premiership winner has played every game so far this season, and Saturday's clash with Geelong at the MCG will take his career tally to 212 matches. The 31-year-old hasn't been offered a new contract by the rebuilding Tigers, and could look to continue his career elsewhere. "I have had some incredible highs and some real lows during my time here," McIntosh said. "The 2017 grand final, it is on par with one of the greatest achievements of my life. To see what it meant to all the fans, my family, my friends and to know that all the hard work that the playing group had put in had gotten us there. "To get the ultimate success, you have to work incredibly hard, no doubt about it. Richmond has changed my life. I have grown up here. This club has become a family to me. (It) gave me a home away from home." with AAP

Broncos confirm signing of Cowboys half as Roosters gun switches to North Queensland

The Brisbane Broncos have taken advantage of the halves situation at North Queensland after signing young playmaker Tom Duffy for next season. While the Cowboys have boosted stocks in their outside backs for 2026 after snapping up emerging Roosters talent Ethan King, in a move that will see the 22-year-old return to North Queensland. King has struggled to break into the Roosters' star-studded backline after earning his NRL debut in round 18 last year. He's been named at 18th man for the the Tri Colours' clash against Parramatta on Saturday, but says the opportunity to move back to North Queensland where he spent much of his youth, was too good an opportunity to pass up. 'I'm very excited (about the move), King said. 'It looks like a great club looking in and I'm really keen to get up there and put my best foot forward and try to crack that side. They probably haven't had the best year this year, but they've got a really great squad there and they play a great style of footy." King admits his best position is at fullback but with Scott Drinkwater firmly established in the No.1 role at the Cowboys, he could loom as a replacement for centre Semi Valemei, who's being linked with a move to the English Super League. 'I really feel like my best position is fullback. I feel like I can have a good impact on the game when I'm playing fullback. "But at the same time, if I'm playing NRL, I'm not complaining at all," King said. I just love playing footy, and if you want to put me on the wing or in the centres, I'm happy either way. Playing NRL's really all I'm focused on.' Broncos snap up Cowboys half on one-year deal Meantime, the Broncos have taken advantage of the halves situation at the Cowboys after snapping up fringe playmaker Duffy on a one-year deal for next season. North Queensland coach Todd Payten revealed recently that the club was keen to keep hold of Duffy, but the recent re-signing of Jake Clifford has forced them to let him go. Duffy was the Queensland Cup halfback of the year in 2024 and was named as starting half for the Cowboys at the beginning of the season when Clifford was injured. But his rival half has established himself as first-choice alongside skipper Tom Dearden this season, and Duffy says he's excited for a fresh opportunity to learn from experienced Brisbane halves Adam Reynolds and Ben Hunt in 2026. 'It's pretty appealing to me having Reynolds and Hunt, two 300 game halfbacks there,' Duffy said. The 22-year-old says he can see that Broncos coach Michael Maguire is building something 'special' at the club and he can't wait to be part of it. 'The work ethic you have to have to succeed down there is high, and I want to strive for that,' Duffy added. 'I want to try and earn the respect of the boys and coaching staff and put my best foot forward. I want to keep developing as a halfback, I think I've got a long way to go to reach my ceiling yet.' 'It's the perfect time for him to come down to the Broncos and learn off Reyno (Adam Reynolds) and Hunty (Ben Hunt) who will help shape his career," he said. 'We can't wait to welcome him to the Broncos family and provide him with the support he needs to fulfil his potential.' with AAP

Cherry-Evans speaks out after moment with wife sparks wild theory about next move

Daly Cherry-Evans has shut down questions over where he will be end up in 2026 after emotional scenes with his wife on the weekend prompted theories the halfback will retire at the end of the season. Manly slumped to their fourth-straight loss on the weekend having gone down 26-12 to the Tigers, which left their chances of playing finals footy hanging by a thread. The veteran halfback also came under criticism for his poor performance with Manly's season withering away after a strong start and his next move is now under more scrutiny. Cherry-Evans has already announced he will be leaving the Manly Sea Eagles at the end of the season. While he is heavily linked with the Roosters, scenes after the defeat to the Tigers prompted suggestions the 36-year-old could actually be considering retirement. Commentator Andrew Voss noticed Cherry-Evans was very emotional after the defeat. 'There was something I witnessed at the ground live," Voss said. "He went down to chat with his wife - and I'm no body language expert - but it was an extended chat and I read into it that he's telling his wife 'I'm done'. But that's me jumping ahead." Although Cherry-Evans' management appears to have put an end to this speculation having announced he will play on into the 2026 season. Triple M Radio's Ben Dobbin claimed he had spoken to Cherry-Evans' camp and they had confirmed he will continue playing footy. "All roads have been pointing to the Roosters, there's been calls in different circles for Daly Cherry-Evans to retire at the end of the season. I can tell you, at this stage, that definitely will not be happening," he said on Thursday. 'Daly Cherry-Evans plans on playing in 2026 and will be at the Sydney Roosters. There has been no deal signed; so, talk that there has been a contract or a deal done is not right. I have spoken to Daly Cherry Evan's camp today and at this stage, they are 100% playing on next year. They are hopefully going to do a deal with Sydney Roosters. There are no other clubs chasing Daly Cherry-Evans other than the Sydney Roosters." RELATED: Panthers continue poaching raids with signing of outside back from Tigers Broncos teammate could join Payne Haas and defect from Kangaroos Daly Cherry-Evans shuts down questions before 350th game However Cherry-Evans was in no mood to take questions about his next move when speaking to reporters on Wednesday. Speaking ahead of Manly's clash with the Dolphins on Saturday, the veteran halfback hoped questions would 'stay away from the future stuff' as he prepares to play his 350th game. 'I'll just start off by saying hopefully we can stay away from the future stuff, I am not going to answer anything,' he said before questions. 'I understand you might ask but I am just not going to answer anything, I want to try and keep the focus on this weekend and Manly and hopefully the celebrations this weekend. I hope you can understand that.' The halfback suggested while he has already made the decision he will depart Manly, it was a huge call to leave the club he joined back in 2011. "Like any big life decision, you are always going to wonder if that's the right call, but I didn't just make that decision (to leave Manly) overnight," Cherry-Evans said. "I think I've been through bigger decisions than this one. I thought the one earlier in my career was a bigger one and I've got no regrets for that one, so I reckon I'll have no regrets for this one." Suggestions are Cherry-Evans could receive a mixed reception on the hill this weekend when he runs out in front of the Manly supporters. The halfback's form has been poor of late and fans have become increasingly frustrated his exit saga has dragged on. However, the 36-year-old said he isn't treating this game as a farewell to the fans. "I feel like there's an opportunity for that in the next couple of weeks, but not this weekend," he said. "We can all laugh and cry on the hill together maybe on the last round of the year." Manly will need to win their three remaining games to reach the finals and hope a number of results go their way.
