Ed Sheeran Celebrates India on Rousing Single ‘Sapphire'
Ed Sheeran has released a new single, 'Sapphire.' The song, off his forthcoming album Play, is accompanied by a music video shot in India. The video features appearances by Arijit Singh, who sings and plays sitar on the track, and Shah Rukh Khan.
'Sapphire,' produced by Ilya Salmanzadeh, Johnny McDaid, and Savan Kotecha, showcases South-Asian percussion as Sheeran sings about passion with a lover. 'Touching on your body while you're pushing on me/ Don't you end the party I could do this all week/ We'll be dancing till the morning/ Go to bed we won't sleep,' he sings on the lively track.

''Sapphire' was the first song i finished for Play that made me know where the album was heading,' Sheeran explained on Instagram. 'It's why I finished the recording process in Goa surrounded by some of the best musicians in India. It was an incredible creative process.' He added that he shot the music video while on tour in India because 'we wanted to showcase the beauty and breadth of the country and its culture.'
'The final jigsaw piece for me was getting @arijitsingh on the record, i'll make a post about that in a few days but it was a journey to get there and such an amazing day of music and family,' Sheeran added. 'Me and him have done a full Punjabi version of the song that will come out in the next few weeks, which has a lot more of him on it. This is the album version of the song, and my favourite song on the album. Hope you guys love it.'
Sheeran will unveil his next studio album, Play, on Sept. 12. 'Play was an album that was made as a direct response to the darkest period of my life,' Sheeran shared in a statement. 'Coming out of all of that I just wanted to create joy and technicolour, and explore cultures in the countries I was touring.' The LP was recorded in all the different locations the singer-songwriter visited and completed in Goa, India. It brought a lightness back to him, giving him some of 'the most fun, explorative creative days of my life.'
He first previewed the album with 'Azizam,' an upbeat, vibrant single about letting go on the dance floor, and has since shared 'Old Phone.' Play is the first installment in a new series of albums from Sheeran. It will be followed by Rewind, Fast-Forward, and Stop, continuing the tradition he started with Plus, Multiply, Divide, Subtract, and Equals.

'But over time, I began to feel something I'd never felt before,' he wrote. 'I started to need the music. I listened in airports, in long cab trips, blaring in the shower. In heartbreak, then in joy. I started to play it for my friends, and they started to need it too. In car ride requests with the windows down, in a split pair of wired headphones on the subway home. It became an egregiously niche soundtrack to our own lives in real time, singing just for us.' After playing the songs for frequent collaborator Daniel Nigro, Gray began to record the album. 'It felt like the music was reminding me who I am, at an experimental time in my twenties where 'who I am' had no definition at all,' he continued. 'My driftwood childhood in texas. My lucid summers in London. My blue striped bed sheets in my college apartment.' Gray added that every song was written by himself, in his pajamas, in his bed. Nigro, along with Ethan Gruska, Noah Conrad, Elvira Anderfjärd, and Luka Kloser, produced the album. The fantastical album cover depicts Gray dressed like a sailor floating on a pillow and holding a large wishbone of the album's namesake. 'Here's so much left to say, but I'll say it in the music,' he wrote. In a postscript to the message, he added that 'a wishbone never breaks even.' Gray released his third LP Found Heaven last April. He subsequently went on tour that summer in support of the album. He'll be playing Governors Ball in New York this June. Miley Cyrus concealed the cost of drugs from her accountant during the making of her 2015 album by disguising them as high-end vintage clothing purchases. The 32-year-old singer and songwriter, whose battles with drink and drugs have been well-documented, made the admission during an appearance on the Every Single Album podcast. Speaking about the period surrounding her experimental album Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz, Miley said: 'We called (drug purchases) vintage clothes. And every time (my accountant) saw me, she'd be like, 'Where's that, like, $15,000 original John Lennon T-shirt that you bought?' 'It's like, 'Oh, it's upstairs.' So I bought a lot of vintage clothes that year.' The Grammy-winning artist went on to explain to avoid suspicion, she would tell her accountant the garments were 'really delicate' and needed to be stored away to 'protect' them. She added: 'I'm so glad I survived that time in my life. I would definitely not encourage anyone else to go this hard, but the fact that I got through it, I'm very glad I got to do it.' John Fogerty, 80, of Creedence Clearwater Revival fame, revealed singer Taylor Swift was an unlikely source of inspiration. While speaking to Rolling Stone for a May 28 interview, Fogerty noted that he is re-recording beloved Creedence Clearwater Revival songs for his upcoming album, Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival, which is set to be released on August 22. He stated that he was inspired to do so after Swift famously re-recorded several of her albums because her masters were acquired by Scooter Braun. In May 2025, Swift revealed that she purchased her masters, as reported by Time magazine. Fogerty told the publication that he wanted his new album to be called "Taylor's Version." He also said that he "understood her plight" as an artist. Rolling Stone reported that neither Fogerty nor his past bandmates have the masters to the Creedence Clearwater Revival catalogue. "She's had a wonderful career, and, of course, had saved a lot of money and was a major touring artist, so she was quite able to pay whatever amount the person that was going to sell it. I really felt for her at the time, because the guy was selling it to somebody else. That sort of thing has certainly happened to me. It's very much like what Saul Zaentz might do," said Fogerty during the interview. He also said "there's probably no chance in the world [that he] will ever have any part of the ownership of the old masters." "This is kind of the Taylor Swift part. But another thing is, I think there's a joy quite evident in the music that may not be there in the original versions," continued Fogerty. A few Creedence Clearwater Revival fans shared their opinions about Fogerty re-releasing several of the band's hit songs in a May 29 Reddit thread. Some commenters said they did not think this was the right move for Fogerty. "Maybe 15 or 20 years ago. But dude is old. Love John Fogerty, but his voice won't hold up. Still, I respect his plight and reasoning for doing it!" wrote a commenter. "Oh god please no. Those albums are perfect. Those songs do not need to be modern-rockified like they are when he plays them live now," added another. Some fans said, however, that they were looking forward to the new project. "I've seen him recently and was actually amazed at how good his voice sounded. It was not 100% perfect but just damn good. And I don't mean 'good for an 80 year old' at all. For anyone. He sounds closer to those recordings than a lot of legacy acts out touring now who aren't very close to his age," commented a Reddit user. "He released some re-recordings from the upcoming album, you should check it out. He sounds absolutely phenomenal. I was in the same boat thinking 'His voice is pretty thin these days' but holy crap, he can seemingly still belt out that raspiness in the studio," shared another.
