
Lokayukta raids 7 govt officials across Karnataka
Bengaluru: Lokayukta police Thursday carried out simultaneous raids on properties linked to seven govt officials across six districts following allegations of possessing
disproportionate assets
.
Raids were conducted in Bengaluru city/rural, Tumakuru, Yadgir, Vijayapura and Mangaluru, covering over 35 locations including the accused officers' residences, offices and relatives' houses.
Operations began at 6am and continued through the day.
The raided officials from Bengaluru city and rural are HR Nataraj, legal metrology inspector in City Market-1 sub-division; Murali TV, additional director of town planning at BDA; Anantha Kumar, second-division assistant at Hosakote taluk office.
According to Lokayukta police, assets worth over Rs 3.9 crore were unearthed at Nataraj's premises, including two sites, two houses, nine acres of agricultural land, cash, gold ornaments, vehicles and household items.
Murali TV was found in possession of three houses, three sites and valuables totalling nearly Rs 3.5 crore. Anantha Kumar had one house, five acres of agricultural land and movable assets, bringing the estimated total to nearly Rs 2 crore.
Officials from the districts under scanner are: Rajashekhara D, planning director of Nirmithi Kendra, Tumakuru; Manjunatha MR, survey supervisor at UPOR office in Dakshina Kannada; Renuka Satarle, former district manager at Dr BR Ambedkar Development Corporation, Vijayapura; Umakanth Halle, tahsildar, Shahapur taluk, Yadgir. In all, assets over Rs 13.4 crore were unearthed from raids on these officials.

Acting on specific intelligence regarding a gold smuggling network involving airline crew, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai, intercepted a male crew member from Air India flight AI-116, arriving from New York on 13 June. While the initial search yielded nothing, subsequent interrogation revealed that the crew member had concealed a pouch containing foreign-origin gold bars, wrapped in black duct tape, near the baggage services area during the post-flight breathalyser test. Following this disclosure, DRI officers recovered the pouch, which contained 1,373 grams of foreign-origin gold. During further questioning, the crew member admitted to smuggling gold on previous occasions. DRI Mumbai arrested an Air India crew member from flight AI-116 for smuggling 1.373 kg of foreign-origin gold, valued at ₹1.41 crore. The gold was concealed near the baggage area post-flight. The accused confessed to orchestrating multiple smuggling operations. The seized gold, valued at Rs 1.41 crore, has been confiscated under the provisions of the Customs Act and both the crew member and the handler have been remanded in custody. Further investigation is ongoing. In a similar incident in December 2024, an Air India cabin crew member was arrested for assisting a passenger in smuggling 1.7 kg of 24-carat gold at Chennai airport. The crew member reportedly handled the passenger's gold during the flight. FIR Against Supertech, Its Promoter For Defrauding IDBI Bank Of Rs 126.07 Crore
New Delhi: The CBI has registered an FIR against Noida-based construction firm Supertech Limited and its promoter R K Arora among others for allegedly defrauding IDBI Bank of Rs 126.07 crore, officials said Saturday. Arora has been named in the FIR alongside whole-time directors Sangita Arora, Mohit Arora, Parul Arora, Vikas Kansal, Pradeep Kumar, Anil Kumar Sharma, and Anil Kumar Jain, in addition to the Noida-based company, they said. On Saturday, the CBI conducted coordinated search operations at five locations linked to the accused," including official and residential premises in Noida and Ghaziabad," in connection with the case. During the raids, agency officials seized cash amounting to Rs 28.5 lakh, CBI's spokesperson said in a statement. The case was initiated following a complaint from IDBI Bank, which alleged that the accused had conspired to misappropriate sanctioned loan funds through fraudulent means. According to the FIR, the bank alleged that the company and its directors submitted forged documents to secure credit facilities under false pretences. The loan account was subsequently declared a wilful default and categorised as fraudulent, allegedly resulting in wrongful losses totalling Rs 126.07 crore to IDBI Bank Ltd., the CBI said.

Five arrested for duping family to unearth ‘hidden treasure', lose Rs 15.30 lakh
Five members were arrested by the Karimnagar rural police on Friday for defrauding a family of Rs 15.30 lakh on the pretext of performing 'pujas' to ward off 'evil eye' and unearth a 'hidden treasure' in Kothapally mandal. The arrested persons were identified as E. Raju of Chandragiri, Durgaiah of Agraharam, Penugonda Raju, Ajay, and Satish of Cheerlavancha villages in the erstwhile Karimnagar district. The accused allegedly duped Praveen of Sriramulapalli village by falsely promising to get his family rid of problems and ensure the well-being of his ailing parents. They allegedly tricked him into paying Rs 15.30 lakh in different instalments on the pretext of some 'pujas' in the past fortnight. When Praveen finally realised their plan, after they started threatening him for more money, he lodged a complaint with the local police. A police team led by Karimnagar rural inspector of police A Niranjan Reddy, nabbed the five individuals at Chintakunta on Friday afternoon. The police recovered Rs 15.30 lakh, seven tola gold, three cars, and seven mobile phones from the arrested individuals.
