IBKN students' fatal crash: Naza Citra pulls over to exchange drivers
ALOR STAR: The Naza Citra multipurpose vehicle (MPV) in a fatal crash that killed three National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) students on the North-South Expressway here yesterday was pulling over at the scene to swoop drivers.
This is among the initial findings made by the police on the fateful incident that claimed the lives of three Jitra IKBN students, all aged 19, at Km49.4 of the expressway yesterday.
"Yes, the vehicle had pulled over to exchange drivers," Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Siti Nor Salawati Saad said.
She added that the 43-year-old driver is in police custody to assist the investigation, but is expected to be released on police bail.
"However, investigations are ongoing and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," she said in a statement today.
Yesterday, three students from IKBN Jitra branch were killed in an accident while returning home on two motorcycles to celebrate Aidiladha tomorrow.
The victims have been identified as Muhamad Habil Mohd Sobri from Gurun; Muhammad Fahmi Mohd Jamel from Jeniang, Sik; and Muhamad Arif Aifan Derani from Bukit Selambau, Sungai Petani.
Another victim, Muhammad Adib Aiman Mohamad Hasan, 19, who was riding pillion on one of the motorcycles, sustained serious leg injuries and is being treated in Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.

Policeman killed in motorcycle accident on NSE
IPOH: A police sergeant was killed while on his way home to Kedah after the motorcycle he was riding skidded at Kilometre 253.7 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) northbound near Kuala Kangsar yesterday. Special Branch officer dies after motorcycle skids on expressway
IPOH: A police sergeant was killed while on his way home to Kedah after the motorcycle he was riding skidded at Kilometre 253.7 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) northbound near Kuala Kangsar yesterday. Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said that in the incident, which occurred at about 7.24pm, the victim, Shamsul Ishak, 58, who was attached to the Special Branch of the Kedah contingent police headquarters, sustained injuries to the left side of his ribcage. "Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim is believed to have lost control of the motorcycle upon reaching the location, before crashing into the metal road divider and being flung from the machine. "He was rushed by ambulance to Taiping Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead at around 9.24pm at the hospital's emergency ward," he said. He added that the victim was believed to be on holiday and was returning to his home in Alor Setar after visiting friends across the state. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
