Malmö Arab Film Festival to screen documentary ‘Diaries From Lebanon'
The docudrama, set in Lebanon, is a joint production between Lebanon, France, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Myriam El Hajj's Lebanese feature-length documentary Diaries From Lebanon is set to be screened at the Malmö Arab Film Festival (MAFF) on May 2.
El-Hajj's documentary delves into the lives of Georges, Joumana and Perla Joe, each representing a different generation with unique perspectives on reshaping Lebanon. However, as the country grapples with disruptions and personal quests unfold, they are confronted with the question — can our dreams survive in a world in turmoil?
Diaries From Lebanon (in Arabic Mitl 'Osas el Hob, or Like Love Stories) is a joint production between Lebanon, France, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
The film was written, directed, and co-filmed by Myriam El Hajj, with contributions from Jihad Saadé and Mohamed Siam. It was produced by Georges Schoucair of Abbout Productions (Lebanon) and Laurent Ruszniewski of GoGoGo Films (France). Anita Perez and Stéphanie Sicard handled the editing. MAD World, a subsidiary of MAD Solutions, is responsible for the film's global sales.
The documentary features author and activist Joumana Haddad, Lebanese war veteran Georges Moufarej, and artist and activist Perla Joe Maalouli.
Diaries From Lebanon received support from various organisations, including the Centre National du Cinéma et de l'Image Animée (CNC), the Fonds Image de la Francophonie, Région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, International Media Support (IMS), Visions Sud Est with the support of the SDC, and the Lebanese Film Fund-an Initiative of the Fondation Liban Cinema.
Additionally, the film received funding from the Doha Film Institute, the Red Sea Fund and the Atlas Workshops of the Marrakech International Film Festival, and won the Mactari Mixing Auditorium Award and Titra Films Award at the Final Cut in Venice Workshop.

The innovative concept, comprising of a symphonic orchestra blended with a Lebanese Arabic ensemble and choir, took its first step with a breathtaking performance in Doha last month. Held at the Qatar National Convention Centre, the concert saw Rahbany take to the stage alongside the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra to present powerful arrangements of iconic Lebanese songs alongside his own compositions; reimagined with his signature blend of orchestral depth, contemporary rhythm, and cinematic storytelling. The show marked the beginning of Lubnaniyat's wider journey as a touring project. At the helm will be Rahbani 3.0, the multidisciplinary creative house co-founded by Omar and filmmaker Karim Rahbani, dedicated to bridging music, film, and narration. Reflecting on the project, Rahbany said: 'Just as artists in the Renaissance looked back to classical antiquity and Greco-Roman humanist ideals, Lubnaniyat offers a renewed reflection on the pioneers who shaped Lebanon's musical and cultural identity. But at its core, it is a diplomatic statement in itself: while Lebanon works to revive its place on the international stage, music, art, and culture emerge as its true ambassadors, carrying the nation's voice, identity, and resilience to the world.' Dividing the orchestra into distinct sections reflects Lebanon's ongoing cultural fusion, Western European symphonic tradition, Afro American jazz brass and grooves, and a Lebanese-Arabic ensemble representing the region's rich Middle Eastern roots, Lubnaniyat is Omar Rahbany's way of carrying Lebanon's most celebrated musical inheritance into a new era, connecting generations. Through Rahbani 3.0, Omar is leading a new wave of artistic projects that blur the lines between stage and screen, music and motion. Rahbani 3.0 is committed to exporting Lebanese artistry to the world, starting with Lubnaniyat, now poised for further international performances.

Create Production has joined forces with Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment to unveil Fall in Love with Film, Vox Cinemas' latest brand film that signals a new chapter for the region's premier cinema operator. The cinematic tribute, released in celebration of Vox Cinemas' 25th anniversary, is underscored by an original score and sonic identity created by legendary composer Hans Zimmer. Renowned Egyptian actress Samiha Ayoub passes away at 93
The renowned Egyptian actress Samiha Ayoub passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the age of 93. Ayoub was one of the giants of Arab theatre, with a distinguished artistic career spanning from 1947 until her passing, encompassing theatre, cinema, and television. No official statement has been issued regarding the cause of her death. However, in early May, rumors circulated suggesting she was battling breast cancer. In a phone interview, Ayoub denied these rumors, stating: 'All these are false reports. I am in good health, and instead of spreading nice rumors, people spread bad ones.' She affirmed that her health was stable and denied any reports of suffering from tumors. Despite several media outlets reporting that she had breast cancer, Ayoub never officially confirmed the diagnosis. In previous remarks, she stated that she was in good health and continued to follow up with her doctor for treatment. She also expressed her eagerness to return to her audience with new and diverse roles. Speculation about her health intensified after she was recently seen with swelling in her hands, reportedly a result of lymphedema—a condition common among breast cancer patients. Lymphedema typically occurs following the removal of lymph nodes, leading to fluid retention and swelling in the affected limb. Ayoub was born on March 8, 1932, in the Shubra district of Cairo. She graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, where she was mentored by the renowned theatre director Zaki Tulaimat. He introduced her to the stage while she was still a student, casting her in the play Khedmet El-Malika (The Queen's Service), which marked the beginning of her artistic journey. Throughout her illustrious career, Ayoub starred in numerous plays, including Siket El-Salama, El-Sebnsa, El-Nadam, Phedra, El-Wazeer El-Aasheq, and El-Soltan El-Haer. She served as the director of the Modern Theatre in 1972 and later managed the National Theatre from 1975, holding the position for 14 years. Her theatrical repertoire included 170 plays, five of which she directed, including Maqalib Atia. Ayoub's legacy remains a cornerstone of Arab theatre and cinema, leaving behind an indelible mark on the artistic world.
