Morgan Stanley maintains overweight on BPCL, sees earnings strength despite crude sourcing shift

Morgan Stanley has reiterated its overweight call on Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) with a target price of ₹406 after the company posted a strong first-quarter performance that exceeded estimates even after adjusting for an inventory loss. Core earnings stood at ₹9,760 crore after accounting for a ₹2,000 crore inventory loss, with reported earnings indicating a 15% upside to the brokerage's forecasts despite a shift away from Russian crude.
Marketing volumes rose 3% year-on-year, outpacing the industry, with gasoline sales in line at 7% growth. The brokerage noted competitive pressure in the industrial diesel segment but highlighted that Russian crude discounts averaged $2–3 per barrel in FY25. BPCL may shift around one-third of its crude sourcing to the Middle East, which Morgan Stanley estimates could impact FY26 earnings per share by about 3%, although it believes this is largely priced into current valuations.
The brokerage sees BPCL's strong marketing performance, resilience in refining, and robust earnings delivery as key supports for its positive stance on the stock, even in the face of shifting crude sourcing dynamics.

Gemini Hires Goldmans, Citi, Morgan Stanley and Cantor as Lead Bookrunners For its IPO

Crypto exchange Gemini filed an updated registration statement for its initial public offering effort, sharing a few more details in its push to become a publicly traded firm. Goldman Sachs (GS), Citigroup (C), Morgan Stanley (MS) and Cantor acting as lead bookrunners on the IPO, Gemini said in a press release Friday. Evercore ISI, Mizuho, Truist Securities, Cohen & Company Capital Markets, Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, Needham & Company and Rosenblatt are also acting as bookrunners, the company said. Academy Securities and AmeriVet Securities are acting as co-managers. The S-1 published on Friday follows a confidential filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission back in June, and confirms "Gemini Space Station," co-founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, intends to sell an undisclosed number of Class A shares. Gemini's filing indicated that it had generated total revenue of $142.2 million in 2024, up from $98.1 million the prior year. For the six months ending on June 30, 2025, the total revenue was $68.6 million, down from $74.3 million in the first six months of 2024. Its net loss in 2024 stood at $158.6 million, compared to $319.7 million in 2023. That figure stood at $282.5 million for the first six months of 2025. Its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization for 2024 stood at a loss of $13.2 million, and a loss of $113.5 million for the first half of 2025. Like other crypto firms, Gemini pointed to standard risks in the risk portion of the filing, including the general nature of blockchain networks and how banks and regulators view the industry. "Key factors influencing the further development of blockchain networks and digital assets include the global adoption of digital assets and blockchain technology; regulatory and quasi-government restrictions on access to and operation of blockchain networks; and the maintenance of open source protocols that support blockchain networks," the filing said. Gemini is only the latest crypto company to try and go public this year, following Circle (CRCL), eToro (ETOR) and CoinDesk parent company Bullish (BLSH). BitGo has filed for paperwork to go public as well. Gemini plans to list its Class A common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol in to access your portfolio

U.S. delegation's India visit reportedly called off as trade tensions simmer

A scheduled visit by U.S. trade representatives to New Delhi later this month has been called off, according to Indian news broadcaster NDTV Profit. The visit that was expected to take place between Aug. 25 and Aug. 29 will likely be rescheduled, NDTV reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The report comes at a time when trade relations between the two countries have soured with U.S. President Donald Trump imposing a 25% blanket tariff on Indian exports, and topping those with another 25% duties — expected to come into effect on Aug. 27 — as a "penalty" for India purchasing Russian crude. Both sides are in contact with each other, but a new schedule for talks not been finalized, the report said. Trump's cumulative 50% tariff rate on India is among the highest on any of the U.S.' trading partners, and has drawn a sharp response from New Delhi. India has said it was being targeted unfairly, while calling out the EU and the U.S. on their continuing trade with Russia. "It is revealing that the very nations criticizing India are themselves indulging in trade with Russia. Unlike our case, such trade is not even a vital national compulsion [for them]," the country's foreign ministry said in a statement earlier this month. India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the Office of the U.S Trade Representative did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comments. The U.S. is India's single largest export partner, with nearly 20% of its overall exports, or $86.51 billion worth of goods, shipped to the U.S. in fiscal year ended March 2025, according to the latest official data. Expedia Group, Inc. (EXPE) Had A Great Quarter, Says Jim Cramer

We recently published . Expedia Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXPE) is one of the stocks Jim Cramer recently discussed. Expedia Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXPE) is a travel services provider whose shares have gained 12.9% year-to-date. Over the past month, the shares have gained 14% after rising by 8.9% since the firm's second-quarter earnings. The results saw Expedia Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXPE) beat analyst estimates for revenue, earnings, and bookings. Naturally, when his co-host pointed out that Morgan Stanley had added the firm to a list of stocks that would end up suffering because of AI, Cramer was surprised as he commented: 'Expedia just had a great quarter, what are they talking about?' Pixabay/Public domain Here are Cramer's previous thoughts about Expedia Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXPE): 'Look, travel's been the biggest engine, okay. It's been the biggest engine of the economy in the last six months. And you can hurt it. I mean we obviously got, we also had some terrible instances with planes. But you can hurt travel and travel's really, . . . Someone upgraded Expedia yesterday, saying things were fine. But I do think that when you take the best bull market we have and you put chinks in it, we should then scramble. We scramble. Because we are running out of places that have bull markets.' While we acknowledge the potential of EXPE as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk.
