Man United vs Athletic Bilbao referee confirmed as Ruben Amorim good omen emerges

UEFA have confirmed that Daniel Siebert will referee Manchester United's Europa League semi-final second leg against Athletic Club.
Assistant referees Jan Seidel and Rafael Foltyn will work alongside the man in the middle at Old Trafford, with Tobias Stieler fourth official. Christian Dingert is the appointed video assistant referee, with Soeren Storks the assistant video assistant referee to complete an all-German officiating team.
It will be the second United match Siebert has refereed during his decade as a FIFA-listed official. The first time was two years ago, again in the Europa League against La Liga opposition and at Old Trafford.

Siebert officiated the round of 16 first leg against Real Betis, which United won 4-1. Marcus Rashford opened the scoring after a counterattack inside six minutes, only for the former Newcastle United and Southampton forwards Ayoze Perez and Juanmi to combine for an equaliser just after the half-hour mark.
Antony, though, put United back in front early in the second half, assisted by Bruno Fernandes. The latter then scored six minutes after heading in a Luke Shaw corner.
Wout Weghorst later added a fourth to give Erik ten Hag's team a commanding first-leg lead. As for Siebert, he showed only two yellow cards, one to Weghorst for dissent between the second and third United goals, then another to Fernandes following a foul ten minutes after his goal.
Athletic have never previously had him referee one of their matches. However, when officiating on Spanish sides overall, they have won on just six of 18 occasions across various UEFA competitions, drawing five and losing seven.
English sides, meanwhile, have a much better record - they have won ten of the 15 times Siebert has been the referee, drawing four and losing just once. That one defeat, though, was in November.
It, infamously, was when Ruben Amorim's Sporting CP won 4-1 against Manchester City in the Champions League, days after being appointed as United's new head coach. Siebert awarded three penalties in the second half of that match, two of which Viktor Gyokeres scored on either side of a miss from Erling Haaland.

Manchester United boost profit forecast after Europa League run lifts ticket sales
(Reuters) -Manchester United raised their annual core profit forecast on Friday as the club's strong performance in the Europa League drove ticket sales and broadcast revenue. United forecast adjusted core profit of between 180 million pounds ($244 million) and 190 million pounds for the year ending June, up from an earlier projection of between 145 million and 160 million pounds. Ticket sales jumped more than 50% to 44.5 million pounds in the three months to March as the club had a good run in the Europa League, before losing the finals to Tottenham Hotspur. United had their worst Premier League season since they were relegated in 1974 and hopes of participating in a European competition next season were dashed after they lost the Europa League final. "We had a difficult season in the Premier League, which we all know fell below our standards and we have a clear expectation of improvement next season," CEO Omar Berrada said in a statement. United's absence from European competitions, which are lucrative sources of broadcasting revenue, deals a huge blow to the club's future finances and has drawn anger and disappointment from fans worldwide. Jim Ratcliffe, who holds a stake of about 29% in the club and runs their football operations, has taken steps to revive the club's fortunes, including by cutting jobs, raising ticket prices and stopping free lunches at staff canteens. Those benefits are expected to be realised from the first quarter of the new fiscal year starting July, the club said on Friday. United reported a net loss of 2.7 million pounds for the three months ended March 31, compared with a loss of 71.5 million pounds a year earlier. Olympic stars leave legacy in home towns after record-breaking Paris 2024 Games
The Paris 2024 legacy is already making a positive impact on local sport, thanks to the £100,000 Olympic Medallist Fund. Six athletes from Northern Ireland, representing both Team Ireland and Team GB, made history by winning an unprecedented seven medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The medal haul included four golds, one silver, and two bronze in Swimming, Rowing, and Gymnastics. El Chadaille Bitshiabu extends RB Leipzig contract
RB Leipzig officially confirmed French centre-back El Chadaille Bitshiabu's reported upon contract extension on Friday. The 20-year-old's new deal with his Bundesliga club runs through 2029. When fit, Bitshiabu served as one of the brighter spots in this year's highly disappointing season for the German Red Bulls. Leipzig continue to shed players and remain on the hunt for a head coach to lead the team in their first Europe-less season since achieving promotion to the German top flight. There remains no news on the matter, though RB did confirm the termination of failed academy director Manuel Baum on Friday.
