In all the pomp of victory, as podiums are set up and long ceremonies commence, look at the defeated athlete. He can't hide except under a towel. He's just waiting, scrutinised by staring cameras (did he break a racket? kick the dirt?), having platitudes tossed at him ('your time will come'), holding on to disappointment till he's alone in a locker room and weeping.
For 20 minutes after the last shot in tennis, the vanquished are still on court, an exhausted prop in a triumphant theatre. They're handed a microphone, here, speak, be graceful, stay humble, praise the champion, don't forget the ball kids, all this while their heart feels like a toppled jigsaw.

The second set saw a more composed Moutet, who capitalised on Martinez's injury concerns to level the match before sealing a berth in the next round with a bagel in the decider. "I'm coming from Queens, so I didn't have much time to recover," Moutet said. "I was trying to recover from the long matches I played there. "I know you were rooting for the Spanish guy, so sorry for that, but I'm happy to be here one more round in a few days." Moutet will now play German eighth seed Daniel Altmaier. Liberty Media receives nod from EU regulators for MotoGP deal

Liberty Media had argued the transaction would allow it to grow the reach and appeal of MotoGP. The commission said the decision followed a lengthy probe that examined if the acquisition would reduce competition for the licensing of sports content broadcasting rights. "Based on the evidence gathered, the Commission found that on such markets the companies are not close competitors for the licensing of broadcasting rights for sports content," the commission said in a statement. "Therefore, the transaction will not remove important competitive constraints between Formula 1 and MotoGP," it added. Liberty Media CEO Derek Chang welcomed the EU's clearance and reiterated he saw the potential for strong growth in MotoGP. "Today's approval from the European Commission marks the final condition to closing Liberty's acquisition of MotoGP," said Chang. "MotoGP is a highly attractive premium sports asset with incredible racing, a passionate fanbase and a strong cash flow profile. We believe the sport and brand have significant growth potential, which we will look to realize through deepening the connection with the core fan base and expanding to a wider global audience," he added. Liberty Media said its acquisition of 84% of Dorna was worth 4.3 billion euros on an enterprise value basis, and represented an equity value of 3.7 billion euros. Rahul digs in as India build lead over England
LEEDS, England - Opener KL Rahul's classy half-century helped India extend their lead over England to 159 runs as they reached lunch at 153-3 on day four of the first test at Headlingley on Monday.
