Zohran Mamdani offers a terrifying glimpse into the future of Left-wing politics
If it can happen in New York, it can happen anywhere. Last night, Democrats in the second most Jewish place on Earth, home to Isaac Bashevis Singer, Woody Allen and pastrami on rye, elected a Corbynite mayoral candidate who has defended the slogan 'globalise the intifada'.
Zohran Mamdani, the proud 33-year-old socialist who was born in Uganda and worked as a rap music producer before turning to politics, pulled off a traumatic political upset when he beat the former state governor and moderate frontrunner Andrew Cuomo to win the nomination.
Until recently, Mamdani, who only became an American citizen in 2018, was all but unknown to most New Yorkers. After all, this was the city of mayor Eric Adams, the pugnacious supporter of Israel whose popularity only collapsed after he was indicted on federal charges including bribery, fraud and soliciting illegal foreign campaign donations last year, all of which he denies. In hard-Left circles, however, the Mamdani was fast becoming a poster boy.
The photogenic son of a professor of post-colonial studies at Columbia University ran on a platform of free universal childcare, free buses, a rent freeze and – you guessed it – condemning the Middle East's only democracy, which he has lavishly accused of 'genocide'.
Predictably enough, the emetic Mamdani campaign has been fuelled by umpteen vacuous TikTok videos, together with endorsements from the usual coalition of socialist dinosaurs like Bernie Sanders and airhead celebrities like model and activist Emily Ratajkowski and comedian Bowen Yang (who once put his name to a 'queers for Palestine' letter). 'This is not just about New York, this is about the Democratic Party,' Ratajkowski said in a video with Mamdani. 'It's about the hope that we have that there is a belief that people can win elections, and not just money.' Pass the sick bag.
Here was yet another expression of the unifying power of Palestine on the Left, which has somehow become the meeting-point of narcissistic progressive posturing, eyepopping sexual experimentation, race radicalism, petulant teenage rebellion, climate fanaticism, Cold-War era anti-capitalism, and amongst some the venomous cause of global jihad and the sheer hatred of Jews.
With the murder of two Israeli diplomats in Washington DC in May, the adolescent rage turned deadly. With the invasion of RAF Brize Norton this month, it crept in the direction of terror. And on both sides of the Atlantic, from Leicester South to Manhattan, it is becoming increasingly political.
There is no shortage of irony here. As one Jewish-American writer put it: 'I hope this puts to rest the notion that Jews control politics. We couldn't even elect a non-antisemite in the most Jewish city in America.'
Clearly, if you thought the Democrats had begun to learn the lessons of their drubbing by Donald Trump last year, you were wrong. There could have been no louder howl of American rage at the ultra-progressive agenda than the 2024 presidential election.
New York, that most liberal of cities, has turned itself into a battleground for the soul of the Democrats. Partly, of course, this is generational: many of Mamdani's voters were young zealots who took on the old guard and crucified them. But in the bigger picture, it is a battle between the ideologues and the pragmatists. And the ideologues are winning.
Wherever you look in the West, the same pattern is playing out. A small number of hardened Islamists and their fellow travellers are reaching for the levers of power over the heads of the bovine silent majority. With the moderates on their own side unable to muster anything other than appeasement, the tide is turning by increments.
History is not always written by the masses. It can be written by the fanatics. With our democratic traditions unable to compensate for the rampant radicalism and apathy muting our immune systems, we are watching our societies slip away.

Inside Liver King's troubling multi-day pilgrimage to Texas to 'hunt' Joe Rogan
A disgraced influencer dubbed the 'Liver King' went on a manic multi-day social media spree as he traveled to Austin to hunt down Joe Rogan, where he was arrested for making 'terroristic threats' against the podcast megastar. The fitness influencer, real name Brian Johnson, was taken into custody on Tuesday night after sharing Instagram videos of himself continuously rambling about 'fighting' the Rogan. Johnson, 48, shared a slew of videos to his 2.9 million Instagram followers. He shot to fame in 2022 claiming his huge muscles were the result of a raw meat diet, before being exposed by Rogan as a steroid user. In the videos before his arrest, Johnson's apparent 'roid rage' was in full view. Johnson appeared to be talking to himself and pretending he was in conversation in some of the clips, including in one where he said to a seemingly empty room: 'I'm going to be right back, okay?' The fitness influencer also shared videos giving himself a 'coffee enema' in the shower, and in another showed a Joe Rogan branded box with a knife ominously perched on top. Johnson's hunt for Rogan appears to stem from his steroid scandal three years ago, as he blamed the podcaster for exacerbating his downfall after Rogan had criticized him for his dishonesty. The 'Liver King' began documenting his pilgrimage to Austin to find Rogan three days ago, saying in an Instagram video on Sunday that, 'If I could just get a formal invitation to the Joe Rogan podcast, I could release myself from leaving tomorrow.' The next day, Johnson shared another clip calling out Rogan to fight him, saying: 'Man to man, I'm picking a fight with you... I have no training in Jui Jitsu, you have a black belt, you should dismantle me.' Wearing a wolf's head hat, Johnson began dancing on camera with his shirt off, saying: 'That's pretty entertaining right?' 'You can't pick a fight with a real king and then expect there not to be an actual fight, bro,' he added. After sharing several more clips of himself aimlessly talking into the camera, Johnson shared another clip on Tuesday morning as he made his way to Austin. He showed himself holding the Joe Rogan podcast branded box with an axe on top, saying: 'You can't buy this kind of stuff, the serial numbers are not replicable.' Pointing his camera to the axe, he said: 'We come bearing gifts, for those that deserve it.' 'We'll see you soon,' he said as he addressed Rogan directly. 'Real tension I have with you, real f***ing beef.' Some of his Instagram videos in recent days received millions of views, with many fans expressing concern for Johnson in the comments and urging his family to check in on him. Speaking from a hotel room in Austin once he arrived in Rogan's hometown, Johnson claimed in an erratic shower video that he'd had a run in with police over his threats, and also showed himself giving himself a 'coffee enema.' 'I challenge you today, Joe Rogan,' he said. 'I'm here at the Four Seasons in Austin, I'm in the shower... I didn't sleep the day before, I was up for about 40 hours.' Johnson went on a hard-to-follow rant about a run-in with police officers as he jumped back and forth from multiple topics in no logical order. 'The police are coming or something's happening... I've not threatened to kill anybody. Did somebody say that I was going to kill somebody?' he said. 'I am going to. I've picked a fight. Who have I picked a fight with? Joe Rogan... Why? Out of principle. Family.' 'I'm challenging you, just as a man. I don't want to kill you. Why would I want to kill you? You have a family. I wouldn't want to take you away from your family. 'I wouldn't want that to happen so I hope that none of this is perceived as a threat. F**k you Joe Rogan, you guys can call all the cops.' It is understood Johnson blames Rogan for helping to unravel his supplement empire after the famed podcaster addressed his 2022 steroid scandal on air Later, his wife shared another video purporting to show the moment he was searched and placed into a cop car by officers. In the video, a member of his team, while filming, tells his wife that Johnson may have to spend up to 24 hours in jail as his matter is dealt with. Johnson was seen in footage filmed by a member of his 'team' wordlessly complying with officers as they patted him down while he wore handcuffs. Online records showed Johnson was booked by the Austin Police Department on Tuesday night and charged with making 'terroristic threats', a Class B misdemeanor. He was hit with a $20,000 bond, however it is unclear if he has posted bail yet. Separately, Johnson said in another deranged video that he is 'scared' and 'has PTSD' after a recent stint inside a 'Polish prison.' 'Now I'm kinda scared about going to jail when I'm around my family because then I can't do what I do, what a man does. 'You can no longer protect your family when you're in jail. That happened in Poland. I don't want that to happen again.' He appeared to be referencing a separate incident where he was detained on August 29 at Krakow Airport in Poland moments before boarding a private jet to Houston. Authorities found ammunition in his suitcase. Johnson received a fine and agreed to cover the costs of the investigation. Elsewhere in his bizarre rant, Johnson revealed 'last Thanksgiving I was dying,' adding that 'the CT scan says something is in dire straits.' Johnson had kept a relatively low profile after his steroid scandal came to light in 2022, but has resurfaced and ramped up his social media presence in the wake of a new Netflix documentary which released in April. 'Untold: The Liver King' explores his supplement empire and rise to the top by eating raw meat - specifically animal livers and testicles - on social media. After another fitness YouTuber caught him in his bold faced lie with blood test results and a leaked email, Johnson filmed a video admitting fault.

Offset reveals his surprising celebrity crush amid dramatic Cardi B divorce
Offset magically revealed his surprising celebrity crush on Tuesday amid his bitter divorce from estranged wife Cardi B. It didn't take Complex 's Interview With a Magician host Anna DeGuzman long to suss out which 'artist' the 33-year-old Bodies rapper has been secretly lusting for after confirming it was 'not an actor.' When the 25-year-old magician asked Offset (born Kiari Kendrell Cephus) what his favorite song by her was, he hesitated: 'You're putting me on the spot.' 'You don't know her songs?!' Anna exclaimed. 'What's wrong with you?!' 'I know her songs,' the three-time Grammy nominee defended. 'But I just feel, like, artistically, like, she got it all together. I like her voice. I like how she does her stage sets.' DeGuzman then handed Offset a crumpled piece of paper, which had the name Sabrina Carpenter written on it. 'How you?! This is cap! No way. Man, it's cap!' the Migos alum marveled. 'I ain't never said this before. I ain't never said this before. Never told nobody. Never wrote it down. They're going to think it's set up! I ain't told her nothing! How you get this? She just guessed this. That's crazy.' Offset confirmed he liked 'petite' women just like the 26-year-old pop star who, at 5ft tall, is three inches shorter than his 32-year-old ex. Sabrina is single after ending her year-long romance with Oscar-nominated actor Barry Keoghan last December. Carpenter and the 32-year-old Irishman - who starred in her Please Please Please music video last June - awkwardly attended the Met Gala separately on May 5. The two-time Grammy winner has caused a lot of controversy over the provocative cover of her seventh studio album Man's Best Friend - dropping August 29 - as well as the simulated sex positions she demonstrates onstage while performing her song Juno while on tour. Speaking of which, Sabrina is next scheduled to resume her $33.2M-grossing, 72-date Short n' Sweet Tour on July 5-6 at Hyde Park in London. Meanwhile, Cardi B (born Belcalis Almánzar) spent Tuesday in an actual castle, seemingly in France, with her new boyfriend, New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Cardi B appeared to diss Offset on her new single Outside off her second studio album Am I the Drama dropping September 19: 'Do you how you do me / bet you we won't speak again. Favorite player from your favorite team / he in my DM.' The half-Dominican, half-Trinidadian star filed for divorce from the philandering father-of-six on July 31 following six years of marriage, and he's already filed for spousal support. Offset also requested joint legal custody of their six-year-old daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus, three-year-old son Wave Set Cephus, and eight-month-old baby daughter Blossom. The Georgia-born ex-con previously fathered 15-year-old son Jordan Cephus with babymama #1 Oriel Jamie, 10-year-old son Kody Cephus with babymama #2 Justine Watson, and 10-year-old daughter Kalea Marie Cephus with babymama #3 Shya L'amour. Offset originally began his career at age 11 in 2002 as a back-up dancer for Whitney Houston's music video for her single Whatchulookinat. Cardi B is next scheduled to perform this Friday at Under the K Bridge Park in Brooklyn, NY alongside Hercules & Love Affair, COBRAH, Sofia Kourtesis, Danny Tenaglia, and Alex Chapman.

MAGA spirals into ugly Islamophobia after Mamdani's win, warns New York ‘is about to see 9/11 2.0'
Conservatives are completely losing their mind over Zohran Mamdani's projected victory in New York City's Democratic primary for mayor, going so far as to warn the residents of the nation's largest city that electing the 33-year-old Muslim assemblyman will guarantee 'another 9/11.' Representing a complete upheaval of the Democratic establishment in New York, Mamdani shockingly knocked off the presumptive frontrunner Andrew Cuomo, who called his Democratic socialist opponent on Tuesday night to concede even before ranked-choice voting was tallied. According to early results, Mamdani received 4.55 percent of first-place votes to the former New York governor's 36.3 percent. 'Tonight was not our night,' Cuomo told his supporters. 'Tonight is his night. He deserved it. He won.' Mamdani, the Uganda-born son of a decorated Indian filmmaker and a Columbia University professor, differentiated himself from the scandal-plagued Cuomo and current New York Mayor Eric Adams – who is running as an independent – with his populist economic positions, such as promising rent freezes, free child care and free buses. Of course, it isn't Mamdani's progressive policy proposals on making the city more affordable for its millions of residents, or even his promises to raise taxes on the wealthy and create city-owned grocery stores, that have MAGA apoplectic over his stunning rise. It appears to just be blatant, bald-faced Islamophobia that has them up in arms. Describing himself as 'Donald Trump's worst nightmare,' Mamdani has described Trump's ICE raids as 'fascist' and has vowed to push back against the administration. He's also been an outspoken critic of Israel amid its brutal war against Gaza, which he describes as an act of genocide, which has led to accusations of antisemitism – especially after he said the phrase 'globalize the Intifada' was a symbolic call for Palestinian human rights. 'These words have different meanings for many different people... I've been clear that any incitement to violence is something that I'm in opposition to,' he told The Bulwark earlier this month, sparking outrage from prominent Jewish figures and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. With the prospect of New York City electing its first Muslim mayor, who is also unapologetically pro-Palestinian, right-wing media personalities, conservative Jewish organizations and Republican lawmakers have painted Mamdani as a radical jihadist hellbent on unleashing further terror attacks on New York, prompting them to 'urge all Jews to evacuate' the city. Laura Loomer, the self-described 'proud Islamophobe' who has the president's ear, reacted to Cuomo's concession by firing off several unhinged tweets in which she explicitly stated that Mamdani would be responsible for a repeat of the September 11 tragedy. '@ZohranKMamdani hasn't even been a US citizen for 10 years. He is literally supported by terrorists. NYC is about to see 9/11 2.0,' she wrote on Tuesday night, adding in another post: 'There will be another 9/11 in NYC and @ZohranKMamdani will be to blame.' The baseless smears, which also included labeling Mamdani a 'Communist,' continued through the night. 'If the Muslim Brotherhood would have been designated as a terrorist org, @ZohranKMamdani could have been prevented from running for office,' Loomer stated. 'Get ready for Muslims to start committing jihad all over New York.' Piggybacking off the blatant Islamophobia in Loomer's tirade, Charlie Kirk – the founder of pro-Trump youth group Turning Point USA – also invoked the 2001 terror attacks to fearmonger about Mamdani's likely ascendence to the mayor's office. '24 years ago a group of Muslims killed 2,753 people on 9/11,' Kirk, who has been increasingly veering towards white nationalism in recent months. 'Now a Muslim Socialist is on pace to run New York City.' Kirk's remarks, specifically, sparked bipartisan outrage. Liberal Fox News co-host Jessica Tarlov called for Kirk to take down the 'gross and Islamophobic' post, prompting Kirk to double and triple down. Reminding Kirk that Trump won in 2024 'by winning over Muslim mayors and imams,' conservative columnist Sohrab Ahmari added: 'But by all means, promote this sort of dimwitted f*ckery, Charlie.' It wasn't just MAGA provocateurs who dove into anti-Muslim tropes while raging about Mamdani's victory. Elise Stefanik, the GOP congresswoman who has hinted at running for New York governor next year, called the mayoral hopeful a 'terrorist sympathizer' in a fundraising email to her supporters. 'My stomach is in knots,' the email read. 'The idea that a self-avowed socialist and Hamas Terrorist sympathizer like Zohran Mamdani could become the next mayor of New York City truly makes me sick.' In a separate tweet aimed at current New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, Stefanik said 'New Yorkers will defeat you to save our state' because of Mamdani's Democratic primary win. 'We know you are in full blown panic mode as you frantically draft and send out the congratulatory tweet to the antisemitic, jihadist, Communist candidate you helped elect in your party's Democrat primary because of your silence, weakness, and ineptitude,' Stefanik wrote. 'You own this dangerous insanity and are incapable of defeating it.' The ugly attacks on Mamdani's faith are not only bound to continue but to get grander in scope. It was reported on Tuesday night that 'allies of President Trump are already gearing up to turn Mamdani into a national figure to attack and tether to other Democrats ahead of the midterms.' Meanwhile, as he continues to be relentlessly attacked as an antisemite – a characterization he has repeatedly denied and rejected – Mamdani has found himself the target of violence. 'While this is a sad reality, it is not surprising after millions of dollars have been spent on dehumanizing, Islamophobic rhetoric designed to stoke division and hate,' the Mamdani campaign said last week after the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force investigated death threats against the candidate. 'Violence and racism should have no place in our politics. Zohran remains focused on delivering a safe and affordable New York.'
