Brazilian authorities suspend the airline involved in last year's crash that killed 62
Brazil's aviation agency on Tuesday suspended the operating license for local airline Voepass, citing security risks as an investigation continues into a crash in August that killed all 62 people on board.
One of the company's six planes crashed outside Sao Paulo as signs of ice buildup mounted on its wings. Brazilian authorities in October ordered Voepass to make changes including increasing ground time for maintenance and changing administrators. Four months later, an update showed the situation had not improved.
The aviation agency noted "Voepass' inability to solve irregularities identified during the supervision, as well as the violation of previously established conditions for the continuity of the operation within the required safety standards.'
It said the suspension will continue until the airline conforms with regulations.
The company did not comment on the decision. Voepass offers regional flights in 15 cities in Brazil.
Investigators say the pilots of the plane that crashed in August reported failure in the system to remove ice from the plane. They were careful to avoid calling that the cause of the accident and stressed that more investigation was needed.

Around 30 different species of piranha fish are believed to dwell in the lakes and rivers of South America. They are known for their razor-sharp teeth - the word 'piranha' literally translates to 'tooth fish' in Tupí, a language spoken by indigenous Brazilians. Despite their reputation as flesh-eating creatures, piranhas are omnivorous forage fish, meaning they eat most things - from meat, fish and insects to plants. Attacks on humans are rare, with the majority resulting in minor injuries, often to the feet or hands.

Footage captured the woman dived out of a white Renault travelling at speed on a road in Itapetininga in Sao Paulo state, Brazil. The passenger is seen tumbling out of the rear right door of the car and landing on the road, before managing to pick herself up and limp away. Local media reported that she began to make her escape as soon as the cab driver requested the fare. A passing cyclist is seen appearing to stop to check if she was ok, before she is seen walking off. The taxi driver claimed he was about to drive to the police station after the woman said she didn't have the cash to pay for her journey. She had also given a different name on the way to the town centre to the one the trip was booked under. She was travelling with Ubiz Car, a local Uber-style ride-hailing service in Brazil. As of 2022, the app covered 24 cities in the country and had more than 5,000 drivers on its books. The lady eventually paid the fare, totalling 10.40 Brazilian reals (or £1.38) by bank transfer. In Brazil, cab hailings apps including Uber offer cash as a payment option when calling a ride. Drivers can however opt out of accepting physical money if they are don't wish to handle the notes and coins or are concerned about passengers running off without paying – known as bilking.
