Looking for a lake to fish with Dad? Ohio has you covered

(WKBN) – Looking for a lake to fish with Dad over Father's Day weekend? The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has you covered. An online interactive map can lead you to great fishing spots in the state. Whether you are looking for ODNR lands, certain lake features, facilities that are important to you, or points of interest, the map can get you there. The map pinpoints docks, tree structures, and locations where fish are frequently found. For instance, the map shows where Christmas trees were placed in Mosquito Creek Lake to create a marine life habitat. Keep in mind, too, that this weekend is free fishing weekend in Ohio. All sizes and daily limits do apply during the free fishing days. Any other time, you will need an Ohio fishing license, which costs $25. There are other options, too, such as a one-day license and licenses for youth and seniors. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Pelicans take break in Lisbon lake to feed

LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) — Lisbon is hosting some visitors at Highlandtown Lake. About nine North American pelicans made a stop at the lake this weekend to rest and feed before heading to Canada and the Rockies, according to local birder Bob Lane. Lane, who is also the curator at the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center, said that fish are spawning in the lake and the pelicans are feeding there. 'This is obviously a rare occurrence,' Lane said. 'Usually it's one day, but it's been three. They've been here since Saturday.' Lane is fairly well-known in the local birding community. He and his wife have recorded 264 species in Columbiana County. Lane said as of Monday morning, the birds were still there, but won't stay much longer. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Get free shuttle service between 2 big events this weekend

(WKBN) – Two local cities are teaming up to make it easier and cheaper for residents to enjoy a night out. Salem and Columbiana are touting a partnership, offering free transportation between two big events this weekend. More: Valley summer events The Salem Super Cruise and Columbiana Wine Festival will be connected by the Quakertown Trolley. The trolley will run between 4 and 9 p.m., with the last departing trip from Salem to Columbiana at 9. Organizers say they hope the service reduces traffic and parking headaches, and encourages more people to experience what both towns have to offer. 'We know that we're only eight miles apart, so we share in our various activities that go in both communities. The trolley is an opportunity for us to allow people from Columbiana to go to Salem, and bring people from Salem to Columbiana,' said Columbiana Mayor Rick Noel. To sweeten the deal even more, Wine Festival admission will be discounted to $30 for trolley riders. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
