Declared dead by EC, Bihar man visits CEO's office to say he is alive

News182 days ago
Patna, Aug 14 (PTI) A resident of Bhojpur district in Bihar on Thursday called on the Chief Electoral Officer of the state to plead that he was alive.
Mintu Paswan, who was earlier this week produced before the Supreme Court, was taken to the CEO's office by a delegation of CPI(ML) Liberation.
'I don't know whether I was seen as an apparition by the officials. The fact remains that I have been distraught to learn that I have been declared dead in the special intensive revision (SIR)," Paswan told reporters here.
He alleged that no booth level officer (BLO) had visited his home.
CPI(ML)-L secretary Kunal, who was present on the occasion, said, 'Anomalies of this type are the very reason behind our general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya opposing SIR in the Supreme Court. Mintu is being asked to fill up Form 06, meant for registration of new voters, even though he has voted in the past".
The CEO has asked him to hand over the form to the BLO concerned, who already stands exposed for a goof-up, the Left leader asserted.
'He (the BLO) has confessed to his mistake and told the CEO that Mintu's name got struck off instead of another person," said Kunal.
Replying to a query from journalists, he said, 'We have identified altogether 21 people, so far, who have been wrongfully declared dead, leading to deletion of their names. Of them, 10 were produced before the Supreme Court.
He added that the apex court was convinced of the mistake in only two instances – one was of Mintu and the other was that of a woman in Raghopur.
Incidentally, Raghopur is the assembly seat of the leader of the opposition Tejashwi Yadav, whose party RJD is an alliance partner of the Left.
'We do not know how effective the intervention by the Supreme Court is going to be. The Election Commission has been brazening it out, falsely claiming that political parties are not coming up with any claims or objections. We shall keep helping as many people as possible in getting their names included in the voters' list," Kunal said. PTI NAC NN

Goas daily wage workers hail govts pay hike, social security benefits

Panaji, Aug 16 (PTI) Daily wage workers across municipalities and government bodies in Goa, who have long awaited recognition and fair pay, will see a significant hike in their salaries and social security benefits starting this month. For years, daily wage workers across municipalities, corporations and government bodies have carried out some of the state's most essential services — from cleaning streets to maintaining civic infrastructure — often with little pay and few benefits. Under a new government scheme, workers who have completed seven years in service are now set to receive not just a substantial salary hike but also recognition and security. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant last month announced that nearly 3,000 daily wage workers employed with government departments, corporations, autonomous bodies and local bodies will see their monthly earnings rise by up to 51 per cent. Effective from August 1, the scheme also entitles eligible workers to the Employee Provident Fund (EPF), paid leaves, maternity benefits, annual increments, and access to central social security schemes. Earlier, a daily wage labourer earned around Rs 12,818 per month. With the implementation of the new scheme, he will earn Rs 20,000 per month along with EPF contribution, Sawant had said, adding that the measure will cost the state exchequer around Rs 4 crore annually. The decision has brought a wave of relief and hope for workers. 'I have been working in the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) for many years. We work together as a team with other labourers. I thank our government and my superiors for this," said Yeshwant Bhatkule, who has been working with the civic body for more than eight years. Bhatkule is among hundreds of CCP workers to benefit from this scheme. Sunita Kamble, who has put in seven years of service, expressed gratitude. 'The government has increased the salary, and we feel good. I thank the government for this," she said. Now, with the labourers getting paid well, garbage collection supervisors say their task has become a little easier. 'The government has increased the salary of our workers. They are happy and satisfied, and are working with vigour. We hope the government works towards their welfare every year," said Mahendra, a CCP supervisor. Officials believe the measure brings daily wagers a step closer to regular government employees in terms of dignity and entitlements. 'The entitlements include salary, which is now on par with regular workers and has almost doubled from what they used to get, bringing it close to Rs 28,000," said Brijesh Manerkar, director of the State Municipal Administration. He said that the workers are also entitled to leave benefits, and women employees can avail maternity leave. Alaska summit: Vladimir Putin says 2020 US elections were not ‘honest'; calls them ‘rigged'

PTI file photo US President Donald Trump said that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin , reportedly described the 2020 presidential elections as 'rigged' because of mail-in voting. 'Vladimir Putin said your election was rigged because you have mail-in voting. He said no country has mail-in voting. It's impossible to have mail-in voting and have honest elections,' Trump said in an interview with Fox News on Friday. Trump also reiterated his claim that there would not have been a war between Russia and Ukraine, and millions of lives would have been saved if he won the 2020 elections. "And if you have won, we wouldn't have had a war. You'd have all these people, millions of people, alive now instead of dead," Trump said in the interview. Following a closed-door meeting with Putin in Alaska that lasted more than three hours, Trump described the talk as 'warm' and said that he agreed on a lot of points with Putin and they are pretty close to making a deal on the ongoing conflict. When asked for his advice to Kyiv, Trump strongly urged Ukraine to strike a deal, stressing the imbalance of power between the two countries. "Make the deal. Gotta make a deal. Yeah. Look, Russia is a very big power and they're not. They're great soldiers and they have great. But, you know, they also had the best equipment. You know, they had our equipment,' Trump said. Putin has previously said that the 'crisis in Ukraine,' referring to Russia's full-scale military offensive, might not have happened if Trump had been the US president at that time. "I cannot but agree with him that if he had been president, if his victory hadn't been stolen in 2020, then maybe there would not have been the crisis in Ukraine that emerged in 2022," Putin said earlier this year, as per a state TV reporter. Trump also previously criticised former president Joe Biden 's handling of the crisis as 'not good'. 'I always felt, so when I left, there wasn't even a chance that this would happen. When Biden got involved, I won't say whether or not he handled it properly, but obviously it wasn't good, because the war started," Trump said. 'I think if I didn't win the election, he would have gotten all of Ukraine. I think he would have taken all of Ukraine," he added. Trump previously demanded the appointment of a special prosecutor to examine the 2020 election, which he lost to Democrat Joe Biden, once again repeating an unfounded claim of widespread fraud. 'Biden was grossly incompetent, and the 2020 election was a total FRAUD!' he said through a post on social media. 'The evidence is MASSIVE and OVERWHELMING. A Special Prosecutor must be appointed. This cannot be allowed to happen again in the United States of America! Let the work begin!' The cybersecurity division of the Department of Homeland Security declared the election 'the most secure in American history,' reported Al Jazeera.

This Muslim Country plans to kill 3000000 dogs due to...; not Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Turkey, it is..

Several celebrities, animal lovers, animal rights activists, and political leaders have raised their voices in light of the Supreme Court's recent judgment to relocate the stray dogs to the shelters in Delhi-NCR. The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its order on pleas seeking a stay of its August 11 order to remove all stray dogs from the localities in the Delhi-NCR region and put them in shelter homes. A three-judge bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and NV Anjaria said it will pass an interim order on the August 11 order of a different bench. Earlier, the Supreme Court on August 11 took a stern view of the stray dog menace and ordered the Delhi-NCR to start removing stray dogs from all localities within eight weeks and house them in dedicated dog shelters to be set up by civic authorities. The discussion on stray dogs continues to spark debate in India. There have been different responses to this decision in public discourse, with some indicating that this is vital to create a hazardous situation for road safety. Meanwhile, others have indicated it is an infringement of animal rights. Meanwhile, reports suggest that another country is planning to slaughter almost 3 million stray dogs, drawing global outrage. The FIFA World Cup 2030 is scheduled to take place in Morocco, Spain, and Portugal. According to the media reports, about preparations for the event have shaken the world. Morocco reportedly aims to kill approximately 3 million stray dogs to make its cities look clean and nice. Animal rights groups, animal lovers, and social workers across the globe have condemned this news. When Morocco was chosen to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the government was serious about cleaning up its cities. As part of this plan, they intend to eliminate stray dogs. Media reports indicate that the dogs are ostensibly killed via poisoning, shooting, or sounded to death by electric shocks. Often, they are physically trapped in painful ways, transferred to a strap shelter home, and then killed more inhumanely than simply putting them down. In some areas, they have even been drowned or burned. When this news spread, animal welfare groups and animal rights activists worldwide protested vehemently. Jane Goodall, a well-known wildlife and animal conservationist on a global scale, wrote a letter to FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström with respect to the matter.
