Make-A-Wish Open returns for 27th year
TOWN OF UNION, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A day on the golf course helped raise critical funding to make the wishes of some special children come true.
The Nelcorp Electrical/Northeast Drilling Make-A-Wish Open took place on Monday at Traditions at the Glen.
This is the 27th year that the tournament has raised money to grant wishes for children facing serious medical challenges. The money is generated through entry fees, auction items, raffles, and donations.
The Make-A-Wish chapter in Central New York currently has a waiting list of 116 kids, with 21 of them in the Southern Tier.
Tom Augostini is a board member whose brother, Vincent, received a wish when he was a child.
'This is a way to provide some relief, some hope, some inspiration, and just to be able to raise money and to grant a once-in-a-lifetime wish, it's a great cause,' said Augostini.
The tournament has successfully granted 14 children from Broome, Otsego, Chenango, and Tioga counties' wishes within the past year.
298 have received wishes since the tournament began.

Business of the Week: Fahs Construction Group
TOWN OF BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Fahs Construction Group is the Greater Binghamton Chamber Business of the Week. Fahs is a general contractor and commercial paving company that oversees large projects for schools, hospitals, universities, senior living communities, and large apartment complexes. It was founded in 1946 by Maynard Fahs Sr. and his brother Glenn. For its first nearly 50 years, its focus was on paving, both for businesses and large highway projects. In 1992, it began doing general construction, which is now the main part of its business. CEO Rich Gangemi says Fahs has talented employees using the most up-to-date equipment. 'Our systems we have in place on the project management side, information flows seamlessly throughout this office, as well as to the architect, to the owners on the project so that everybody's up to speed and everything is current and up to date,' said Gangemi. Gangemi says Fahs prides itself on supporting local non-profits such as the YWCA and Broome County Community Charities. He says it's currently looking to expand the amount of work it does for the private sector. BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – One of the most heavily debated topics in Greater Binghamton is where to find the best pizza, and News 34 is looking to the community for your input on the area's best slice. We recently posted a story sharing TripAdvisor's ranking on where to get the best pizza in Binghamton. The list only includes restaurant locations with mailing addresses in Binghamton and does not include chain restaurants. Though TripAdvisor is considered a trusted source for travel information, the list was outdated and included several restaurants that are no longer in business, such as Stone Fox and Amici. We received several messages from our readers regarding the hot topic. In response, we wanted to give our readers, not TripAdvisor, the chance to pick their favorite pizza joint. Last week, we asked you to send your nominations for the best pizza in Greater Binghamton. We opened nominations up to all pizza restaurants in the local area, not just those with a Binghamton mailing address. With your answers, we compiled a list of your favorite pizzas. Now, we're asking you to vote on the finalists in the poll below. Each vote counts as one point towards your chosen restaurant. Voting ends at midnight on Sunday, June 15.
