Credit-based evaluation system to assess students' Yoga performance to be set in Haryana govt schools, 'Yoga Break' to be introduced in all govt offices

CHANDIAGARH: A credit-based evaluation system for assessing students' Yoga performance in all government schools will be introduced in Haryana, and a uniform yoga curriculum will soon be implemented in all universities and colleges across the State.
Besides, a five-minute 'Yoga Break' will be introduced in all government offices,
On the 11th International Yoga Day, over one lakh people gathered at the sacred Brahma Sarovar in Kurukshetra for the State-level event, and nearly 20 lakh participants joined the yoga sessions held across 22 districts and 121 blocks of the State.
Addressing a State-level function, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that a 'Yoga Writer Incentive Scheme' will be launched to promote Yoga research in universities, with outstanding authors to be honoured annually.
Additionally, 100 new 'Yoga evam Vyayamshalas' will be established this financial year.
Currently, there are 883 Vyayamshalas already operating in the State. An international meditation hall will also be built at Shri Krishna AYUSH University in Kurukshetra.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stated that Yoga and naturopathy subjects will be recognised under the AYUSH, starting this year, with government registration of practitioners also commencing.
Saini also announced that experienced coaches will be appointed to strengthen Yoga as a sport at the national level and to train athletes for international competitions.
Recruitment for 40 Yoga instructors in the sports department will begin shortly.

Students of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) IIIT in Nuzvid celebrated the 11th International Yoga Day by performing yoga on the lawns of the institute, here on Saturday. Nuzvid IIIT Director S. Amarendra Kumar, who practised yoga along with the faculty and the students, asked all to do 'yogasanas' for an hour every day. The 17th Andhra Battalion NCC, Vijayawada, performed yoga with a slogan 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Smrithi Maidan, in Vijayawada. Nearly 1,200 cadets of various institutes, NCC officers, instructors performed various yogasanas in the Smrithi Maidan, said Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. G.C. Pandey. Officers of South Central Railway (SCR), Vijayawada division, celebrated the International Yoga Day, and practised yogasanas at Railway Function Hall. Additional Divisional Railway Manager P.E. Edwin, Srinivas Rao Konda, Divisional Personnel Officer Rasana Devi and other officers felicitated yoga instructors, Velaga Swathi and Velugubanti Saatvika on the occasion. International Yoga Day was celebrated at more than 20 places in SCR Vijayawada division, in which many railway employees participated, the SCR officials said.

She lauded efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in popularising yoga all over the world. 'Due to Prime Minister Modi's efforts, the United Nations declared June 21 as International Yoga Day. Yoga brings balance and helps remove stress. It provides wholistic view for health,' Kausar Jahan told ANI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the main national event on the 11th International Yoga Day from Visakhapatnam. He extended warm greetings to people across India and the world on International Yoga Day, highlighting that this year marks the 11th occasion when the world has come together on June 21 to practice yoga collectively. He remarked that the essence of yoga is 'to unite', and it is heartening to see how yoga has united the world. Reflecting on the journey of Yoga over the past decade, PM Modi recalled the moment when India proposed the idea of International Yoga Day at the United Nations. He noted that 175 countries supported the proposal, a rare instance of such wide global unity. He emphasised that the support was not merely for a proposal but represented a collective effort by the world for the greater good of humanity. 'Eleven years on, yoga has become an integral part of the lifestyle of millions across the globe', he added. Meanwhile, 2121 participants held the cobra pose for two minutes and nine seconds while performing yoga in Gujarat's Vadnagar on Saturday and created a Guinness World Record. According to Richard Stunning, official adjudicator at Guinness World Records, a recordfor the most people performing the cobra pose in yoga began on Saturday. 'The Guinness World Records title that starts today is the most people performing the cobra pose in yoga, simultaneously. We set a guideline that everyone had to do it for at least a minute each, and we set a minimum target of 250 participants. Today, they did it for more than a minute, they did it for two minutes and nine seconds, and the total was 2185. We had to discount 64 participants. So the confirmed title is 2121 participants. Given we set a minimum of 250, this is smashing the Guinness World Record. Congratulations to everyone involved, and it's a fantastic achievement', Richard Stunning told ANI. (ANI)

Thousands of people from different age groups took part in the International Yoga Day celebrations across various districts of Kittur Karnataka by performing various asanas on Saturday. District administrations along with AYUSH departments, various organisations, educational institutions had organised programmes at stadiums, open spaces, halls, and atop big buildings as part of the day. Programmes were held even in prisons and on the Hubballi airport premises. Participating in the programme at UNESCO heritage site Pattadakal in Bagalkot district, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi termed yogasanas a good exercise for spiritual, physical, and mental health. 'It not only strengthens our body, mind and inner strength but also has the objective of establishing harmony across the universe,' he said, adding that yoga was contributing a great deal in making the 21st century the 'century of Bharat'. At the programme at the district stadium in Dharwad, Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Divya Prabhu G.R.J. termed yoga the biggest contribution of India to the world. 'If man's body and nation is peaceful, then the whole universe will be peaceful. The meaning of the word yoga is uniting our body and mind. Yoga means uniting everyone,' she said. At the programme held in association with Isha Foundation at sub jail in Hubballi, along with inmates of the prison, Shahabuddin Kalekhan Superintendent of Prisons, and the jail staff performed yogasanas. Elaborating on the significance of the day, Mr. Shahabuddin briefed about various reformative programmes being held for the inmates regularly. At the Hubballi airport, director Rupesh Kumar and other staff members took part in the celebrations. In the programme held in coordination with 'Kshamatha Samsthe' and 'Dhanyosmi Yoga Kendra' in Hubbali, hundreds of people took part. Convener Govind Joshi, MLA Mahesh Tenginakai elaborated on the significance of Yoga Day. In districts In Belagavi, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Haveri, Gadag, and Uttara Kannada, district-level programmes were held.
