Festivities continue at PCB Scottish Festival
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WMBB) – The kilts and bagpipes were in full display Saturday at the 31st annual Scottish Festival.
The celebration kicked off Friday night, marking the first time in festival history that the event spanned two days. Gates opened at 9 a.m. Saturday morning at Frank Brown Park in Panama City Beach.
The event featured pipe bands, highland games, kids' activities, axe throwing, a petting zoo, and dozens of vendors to explore. The main event kicked off at noon with the opening ceremonies, followed by Irish dancing and live music throughout the day.
PCB Scottish Festival hosts first ever 2-day event
Officials say the reason it's the largest and longest-running Scottish festival in the Panhandle is because of the local representation.
'Most people don't know it, but there is a very large Scottish community in Panama City, and there's very large ones everywhere, just not everybody knows it. We have many, many clan tents of families, the Scottish families, representing their families. You can come in and find out if you don't know, just go to any one of them and they'll get your name and they'll look it up and they'll tell you which clan you belong to,' PCB Scottish Festival Committee Member Bill McCurdy said.
The festivities wrapped up at about 5:30 Saturday evening. If you want to learn more about the clans or the festival, click here.

Dolly Parton opens Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WMBB) – After a year and a half of construction, Pirates Voyage Dinner and Show is now open in Panama City Beach. This is their biggest of Dolly Parton's 3-Pirates Voyage attractions, with seating for more than 1,000 people. Parton says she thought Panama City Beach was the perfect place to open a new location. 'We know this is a great vacation spot and this is a wonderful place to come have supper because kids will be hungry after that, maybe they'll sleep good too after they had a good meal and been entertained,' Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show Founder Dolly Parton said. Pirates Voyage will host up to four shows a day, where performers battle each other on a stage that consists of floating pirate ships. Buccaneer Bay Lagoon is where the action takes place. Pirates from the sapphire and crimson teams battle each other across the stage. They are joined by Captain Blackbeard and Salty the Sea Lion. Visit PCB celebrates Tourism Appreciation Day with Pirates Voyage The shows include audience participation. 'You'll pick your side, and then we'll have competitions to see who is going to win Davy Jones's treasure,' Captain Blackbeard said. And everyone gets involved. 'Even your server, who is bringing you the fabulous four-course feast, gets involved in the show. Still kind of have to watch and see what your server is doing when they're part of Blackbeard's crew,' Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show PR Manager Ellen Liston said. The attraction has already created 300 jobs in the area. Parton says performers come from all over to be a part of the show. 'We literally have folks from all over the country, as a matter of fact, all over the world. And they kind of keep track of people that do these kinds of things. So we're just so proud to have all these great performers, and they are so talented,' Parton added. Pirates Voyage added another show that will start at 8:30 on Thursday night. It is open to the public. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Police explore hate crime motive in shooting death of ‘King of the Hill' actor
Authorities in San Antonio are reevaluating whether the shooting death of voice actor Jonathan Joss, best known for voicing John Redcorn on 'King of the Hill', was motivated by anti-LGBTQ+ bias. Joss, 59, was fatally shot Sunday evening outside his former home, which had previously been destroyed in a fire. Initial statements from police claimed there was no evidence linking Joss' sexual orientation to his murder. But San Antonio Police Chief William McManus walked back that assertion Thursday, calling the earlier statement 'premature.' He confirmed that investigators are now considering whether homophobia played a role. Joss' husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, said the couple had returned to their burned-out home to check the mail when a neighbor approached, shouted 'violent homophobic slurs,' and opened fire. Joss reportedly pushed his husband out of the line of fire before being fatally shot. 'King of the Hill' actor killed in shooting 'Jonathan saved my life,' de Gonzales wrote in a Facebook post. The accused gunman, 56-year-old Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, was arrested and charged with murder. He has since been released on a $200,000 bond. San Antonio police confirmed that Ceja Alvarez is a neighbor and that officers have responded to approximately 70 calls related to disturbances in the area over the past two years. While some calls were placed by Joss, others came from neighbors. Officials also said the department's community crime prevention units had 'extensive engagement' with Joss. Texas does not allow separate hate crime charges, but if a jury finds that homophobia was a motive, sentencing enhancements could apply under state law. Joss's home was destroyed by fire in January. The blaze killed his three dogs, and arson investigators are still reviewing the cause. His husband said the fire followed years of threats from neighbors, some of which were 'openly homophobic.' Tributes have poured in since the actor's death. 'King of the Hill' creators Mike Judge, Greg Daniels, and Saladin Patterson said in a statement, 'His voice will be missed… and we extend our deepest condolences to Jonathan's friends and family.' In addition to 'King of the Hill,' Joss appeared in 'Parks and Recreation,' 'Ray Donovan,' 'Tulsa King,' and 'The Magnificent Seven.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
