Dave Portnoy: Shannon Sharpe spiked interview was ‘biggest insult of my professional career'
Dave Portnoy said he did a favor for Shannon Sharpe and was given 'the biggest insult of my professional career' in return at Super Bowl 2025 in New Orleans this past February.
During Monday's installment of 'The Barstool Rundown,' the founder of Barstool Sports explained he filmed Sharpe's 'Club Shay Shay' podcast for two hours and the ESPN personality 'never aired it.'
'Maybe Shannon Sharpe has dealt my the biggest insult of my professional career. He had me on 'Club Shay Shay and just spiked it. He just spiked it. Never aired it,' Portnoy said.
'Spent f–king two hours I did a favor — my time, spiked it. It had to be spiked. Listen, I walked out, I didn't think it was great. I didn't think I was gonna get spiked… I just answered the questions that are asked of me… I don't know, I didn't think it was great, but he spiked it.

'What an insult… It's rude too… You asked me to go over there, spend time, I do, and you just spike it.'
Portnoy said he would've appreciated an explanation and a heads up that his conversation on 'Club Shay Shay' wasn't going to be released.
He added that Sharpe had a big stack of cards and asked him a bunch of questions during the interview.

'He was pretty deep on some of it, I don't know how much he knew of me,' Portnoy said. 'He probably didn't set it up. I don't know.
'… It was tough to get spiked… but maybe he'll let me post it.'
Portnoy added there wasn't anything controversial in the conversation, and that they discussed the Caitlin Clark versus Angel Reese debate.
Sharpe has yet to publicly address the matter.

Portnoy went on to compliment Sharpe for how hard he works in the media.
He recalled doing Sharpe's podcast after he mentioned the civil lawsuit accusing the Hall of Fame tight end of rape, which was filed by a woman under the pseudonym 'Jane Doe' in Nevada on Sunday.
Portnoy said he didn't want to get into details about the situation.
Sharpe denied all allegations of coercion or misconduct in a statement through his counsel to The Post on Monday.
The ESPN personality named his accuser in text message documents posted to his X account.
Sharpe appeared on 'First Take' Tuesday and attended WWE's 'Monday Night Raw' in Las Vegas after the news broke.

Is ESPN's hypothetical Trey Hendrickson trade feasible for the Lions? Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson continues to be in a contract dispute with the team. Until the issue is resolved, Hendrickson will continue to be the subject of trade speculation. With that speculation, and with the need for extra help on the edge, the Detroit Lions will be linked to any potential trade discussion for Hendrickson. But is a trade actually feasible for the team? Before getting into that, let's discuss the hypothetical trade idea for Hendrickson to the Lions that was proposed by ESPN's Ben Solak this week. Solak proposed Hendrickson and a 2026 fifth-round pick to the Lions for a 2026 second-round pick and a conditional 2027 fourth-round pick that can become a third. Solak wrote: "Lions general manager Brad Holmes has acknowledged the fan base wants a secondary edge rusher far more than he does, but I imagine a player of Hendrickson's caliber would change Holmes' calculus slightly. Hendrickson isn't the sort of run defender the Lions might prioritize, yet a pass-rush duo of Aidan Hutchinson and Hendrickson might be the scariest in the NFL. "The Lions are still legitimate Super Bowl contenders and should behave as such with aggressive veteran trades. They have plenty of cap space to extend Hendrickson, which he would demand of an acquiring team." The Lions currently have $40 million in salary cap space for 2025, but are currently projected to be about $14 million over the cap for 2026, according to Spotrac. That can easily be addressed by restructuring contracts, including that of quarterback Jared Goff, for example. Goff is currently scheduled to make $55 million in base salary. The Lions do have other players set for new contracts coming up and the money will start getting pretty high. Not the least of which is Detroit's leading edge-rusher Aidan Hutchinson. In addition, safety Brian Branch is also due for an extension after this season. Tight end Sam LaPorta will also be coming up. All three have two years left on their rookie contracts -- Hutchinson had his fifth-year option picked up, Branch and LaPorta were not eligible for fifth-year options.
