Auckland Airport has landed amongst the highest-ranking airports around the world in this year's SKYTRAX 2025 Airport Awards for 10-20 million annual passengers, coming in at #4 out of the top 10 list.
The independent SKYTRAX survey ranks global international airports for customer satisfaction including traveller experiences from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate.
Auckland Airport also ranked #46 for customer satisfaction across all airports globally.
In the Australia/Pacific category Auckland Airport maintained its #3 ranking, and the Te Arikinui Pullman Auckland Airport Hotel ranked #3 for Best Airport Hotel in Australia/Pacific. This hotel is a joint venture with Tainui Group Holdings and opened in December 2023.
Scott Tasker, Chief Customer Officer of Auckland Airport, said the SKYTRAX ranking in the World Airport Awards is 'an awesome accolade for everyone working in our airport ecosystem – the Auckland Airport team, government border agencies, ground handlers, airlines, retail staff and the hundreds of other companies that help support the system to run smoothly'.
'We're committed to creating an airport that Kiwis are proud of and we're heartened travellers have recognised the value of the changes we're delivering,' said Mr Tasker.
'This news comes on top of research findings in 2024 from global insights firm Ipsos that shows 80% of New Zealanders think airports are the best-performing infrastructure in the country.'
Auckland Airport's runway is the hardest working in New Zealand, supporting over 400 flight movements per day. Each year there's $35.1 billion of economic output from international and domestic travel and tourism generated by Auckland Airport aviation connections, and $26 billion in annual trade flowing through the airport.
'Our infrastructure programme is progressing quickly and the improvements are really starting to make a difference to customers. We've opened the Transport Hub at the front entrance to the international terminal and we've been upgrading wayfinding signage to make it clear to customers where to go.
'MPI have also enabled an express lane at the international terminal, which has helped create efficient processing while maintaining border security. This, along with the uptake in the New Zealand Traveller Declaration has allowed a smoother arrival for customers coming in from international destinations. Aviation Security have been rolling out CT scanners across both terminals, meaning travellers can leave laptops and items in their carry on at the security checkpoint, which has meant shorter queues for customers.
'We've also been making improvements at the domestic terminal while we're building the new integrated terminal. This has included modernised bathroom facilities, new flooring, updated dwell spaces and plenty of seating. he said.
Skytrax is a United Kingdom–based research consultancy headquartered in London that runs an airline and airport review website as well as taking surveys from international travellers to rate airports, airlines, airline lounges, in-flight entertainment, on-board catering, and several other elements of air travel.
Singapore's Changi Airport was #1 airport in the world for the 13th time, followed by Doha Hamad.

She confirmed last week the ANZ Premiership, facing an uncertain future due to a new broadcast deal, would return next year with all six teams involved and was likely to be played during the same time frame as this season. The 2025 season has hit the ground running and Wyllie said broadcast ratings were up 40% and the community game was "thriving". "What we're seeing is Kiwis are loving it," Wyllie told the Otago Daily Times. "It's all pointing in the right direction for netball." The ANZ Premiership has been slashed from three rounds to two this season — which means teams get only 10 games before the playoffs — and there have been innovations including the two-point shot, timeouts and a coaches box. Wyllie said there had been some "heart-stopping moments" through the opening games, and while she conceded two rounds did not make a long season, she was pleased all teams hit the court strongly. Like many traditional netballers, Wyllie admitted she had reservations about introducing the two-point shot, but felt it had its place. "It's going down well. The players are enjoying it," she said. "Sometimes you could have been a minute to go, three goals down and thought the game was done — that is no longer the case. "I think those kind of things have been really interesting talking points and great to be able to see it come to life as we envisaged it when we were planning." The tactical nature of timeouts, and when coaches used their coaches box to deliver messages during the game, intrigued her the most. "What I've loved is the strategic nature of what I'm hearing from the coaches box, when they're using their timeouts and when they're talking with their players. "We've got three new coaches in the mix this year and it's brought a really different dynamic. "I'm really impressed with how they're all being quite strategic. "I think that for me as a netty is really exciting." Aside from their blip against the Central Pulse at the weekend, the Southern Steel have been tracking well this season. They recorded a massive win over the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic and were pipped by one point against the defending champions, the Northern Mystics. Even Wyllie thought the Steel had secured a win over the Mystics — "I was screaming at the TV that there was time" — but she was proud to see how they were bouncing back after a tough couple of years. "I think it's amazing resilience and to see a team that have had a tough few years, injury plagues, with a fresh new coach in there, they've been formidable." The ANZ Premiership reaches the halfway point this weekend. The Mainland Tactix hold top spot with three wins and one loss. The Pulse and the Mystics, who are awaiting results on Australian Diamond Donnell Wallam's wrist injury, round out the top three. The Steel sit fourth with one win and three losses, followed by the Magic — who picked up their first win on Monday — and the Northern Stars. In round five, the Steel are home to the Tactix, the Pulse meet the Mystics and in a repeat of this week's game, the Stars play the Magic.

'Mr Grenon has weathered a lot of unjust criticism in pursuing this 'audacious' outcome. But his principled determination to defend broad viewpoint representation will help reestablish the centrality of free speech in our democracy. 'The media plays a crucial role in Kiwis' ability to seek, receive, and impart information, so it's essential that they platform multiple viewpoints on issues of public interest. More Kiwis Oppose Than Support Government's Pay Equity Changes, New Poll Shows
Article – RNZ Nearly two thirds of the public believe the government should have first sought feedback on the controversial change, the latest RNZ Reid Research poll shows., Deputy Political Editor More New Zealanders oppose than support the government's shake-up of the pay equity regime, and a clear majority think the public should have been consulted first, a new poll shows. The latest RNZ Reid Research survey found 43.2 percent of respondents were against the overhaul, compared to just 25.5 percent in favour. Nearly a third – 31.3 percent – remained unsure. On the question of consultation, 68 percent said the government should have first sought feedback, with only 18.6 percent saying no. The remainder – 13.4 percent – were undecided. That opinion carried through to voters' party preferences, with even a slim majority of ACT voters agreeing that there should have been consultation, despite the changes being championed by Workplace Relations Minister and ACT deputy leader Brooke van Velden. The poll also indicated limited public comprehension: just 49.7 percent said they understood the changes, 38.2 percent admitted they did not, and a further 12.1 percent were unsure. More than half of those who claimed a lacked of understanding still expressed an opinion about the policy: 38 percent said they opposed it and 13 percent said they supported it. Respondents were surveyed from 23 May through to 30 May, capturing the immediate reaction to last month's Budget and the $12.8 billion of savings made from the coalition's pay equity pivot. Van Velden had announced the overhaul several weeks earlier, before passing legislation through all stages under urgency. Among the key changes: a new merit test was introduced, as well as a greater focus on whether employers could afford higher wages. The threshold to lodge a claim was lifted, and job comparisons across different industries were restricted. Along with the changes, the coalition also extinguished the 33 claims already being considered under the previous scheme. The government argues the regime had expanded beyond its remit, becoming too costly and confusing. The opposition parties and unions says the changes will make it harder for those in female-dominated sectors to achieve fair pay. The RNZ Reid Research result follows a similar question asked in the latest 1News Verian Poll, released on Tuesday. It found 45 percent opposed the pay equity changes, compared to 39 percent in support, and 16 percent who did not know or wouldn't say. Speaking to RNZ, van Velden said she had received mixed feedback but believed the community now recognised that the changes were necessary. 'It's always going to be a difficult conversation,' she said. 'We have fixed resources, we have to make those difficult decisions on behalf of New Zealanders.' And Prime Minister Christopher Luxon told RNZ he would not do anything differently if given the chance again. 'We made some pretty tough decisions to go through under urgency. But we had to fix a very unworkable and unaffordable law. It had got completely out of whack.' Finance Minister Nicola Willis suggested some of the public opposition or lack of understanding could have been driven by Labour promoting 'misinformation'. 'Labour have had a very confused position, and their hyperbole in claiming that we were ending equal pay has ultimately done a disservice to them and the people they're seeking to represent, because it's basically untrue.' But Labour leader Chris Hipkins said that was sheer desperation. 'Women up and down the country have a right to feel angry,' Hipkins said. 'The government cut billions of dollars that was otherwise going to be going into low paid women's pay packets, and now they're just desperately trying to deflect attention away from that.' The latest RNZ Reid Research poll showed National and ACT losing support, and without the numbers – even with NZ First – to form a government. ACT leader David Seymour said he did not put much stock in any one poll but acknowledged the recent pay equity changes could be on some voters' minds. 'Doing what is right is what is politically popular in the long term, and even if I'm wrong about that, good policy is worth it anyway. 'We have left New Zealand with a more sensible pay equity regime focused on actual gender-based discrimination, and I think that's worth it.' This poll of 1008 people was conducted by Reid Research, using quota sampling and weighting to ensure representative cross section by age, gender and geography. The poll was conducted through online interviews between 23-30 May 2025 and has a maximum margin of error of +/- 3.1 percent at a 95 percent confidence level. The report is available here.
