All-rounder Jacob Bethell justified his appointment as England's T20I captain for the upcoming tour of Ireland. The 21-year-old smashed a blazing 48 off 23 balls in the ongoing edition of The Hundred as his team, Birmingham Phoenix, were tasked to chase 194 against Northern Superchargers. Though Bethell's side fell short by 36 runs, his hat-trick of sixes lit up Headingley on Friday evening.
Bethell came in to bat at No. 5 after the Phoenix top order had collapsed during the chase. Will Smeed (1), Ben Duckett (11), and wicketkeeper-batter Joe Clarke were dismissed within just 16 balls, leaving the remaining batters facing an uphill task. That's when Bethell joined hands with captain Liam Livingstone, stitching an 80-run stand for the 4 th wicket.

Bethell To Become Youngest England Captain
Jacob Bethell is poised to become England's youngest international men's cricket captain after the 21-year-old was named on Friday as the skipper for next month's T20 international series in Ireland. The talented Warwickshire all-rounder is viewed as one of the rising stars of English cricket, despite having yet to score his first professional century in any format.
Bethell has been appointed to lead England in a three-match T20 series against Ireland in Dublin, which will be part of the team's preparations for next year's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

I just stay calm, watch the ball, try and not preempt too much, understand the areas where I can get the boundaries and where I can get the twos. Just tried to stay on strike as much as possible," he added. The veteran all-rounder mentioned that the series win against South Africa is a confidence booster for Australia before the 2026 T20 World Cup. "We've had a great run with this T20 group. To have another series win against a quality opposition in South African is great for our confidence heading forward. There's still about 13-14 internationals before the T20 World Cup and we are building something really nice in this group. It's certainly a very fun change room to be in and I am enjoying every moment," said Maxwell. The 2007-08 series was no exception, filled with controversies and spirited battles. During the Perth Test, while Irfan was fielding near the boundary, he was subjected to racial taunts from a section of the Australian crowd. 'When I was fielding at the boundary line, they targeted me by saying things like, 'You have eaten Indian curry, you're smelling like Indian curry.' The Australian crowd try to get under your skin," Irfan was quoted as saying in an interview with The Lallantop. Instead of moving away, Irfan chose to respond in his own unique way. 'I didn't change my field position and instead gave them replies. 'When I took a wicket, I took my tongue out to indicate that my tongue is very clean and there's no smell. Jasprit Bumrah confirms availability for Asia Cup 2025 to Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee: Report
Bumrah's workload and fitness has been widely discussed of late after the star pacer skipped two matches in the five-Test series in England recently. The 31-year-old speedster, however, isn't likely to face fitness issues by bowling a maximum of four overs in the Asia Cup, which returns to the T20 format this year. In a massive boost for the Indian team ahead of the Asia Cup, premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah has conveyed his availability to the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee for the continental event that takes place in the T20 format in the UAE next month. According to a report on The Indian Express, the 31-year-old pace spearhead had spoken to the selectors a few days ago, confirming that he has no fitness issues at the moment and is raring to go at the event, where the Men in Blue could face arch-rivals Pakistan thrice including in the final.
