G Flip 'freaks out' Americans with Australian school tradition that no other country has: 'This has to be a lie'

Daily Mail2 days ago
G Flip has set the internet alight once again, with the singer dropping a 'bizarre' school tradition from Australia on unsuspecting Americans.
The Aussie singer, who goes by they/them pronouns, has moved to the US after marrying Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause.
Earlier this week, G Flip left Americans baffled after explaining the concept of 'meat raffle' prizes Down Under.
Now, the musician, 31, has reflected on the use of pen licences in Australian schools.
When students are around nine years old, in year three or four, they are handed an informal certificate that allows them to officially transition from writing with a pencil to a pen.
It's believed to be a schooling rite of passage exclusive to Australian kids.
'I'm an Australian living in America and today I found out that Americans don't get their pen licence when they're a kid,' G Flip said in a TikTok video.
'So, in Australia, when you're eight or nine, you do a test to deem if you are ready to upgrade from a pencil to a pen.
'You've got to make sure it's all legible and your letters look great and then your teacher will grade you... and you will then get a certificate that says you can now use your pen, you've got your pen licence.
'Apparently, Americans, y'all don't get a pen licence and you're out here using pencils until you're in your teens. That's a lot of sharpening!'
The video has since been viewed more than 1.5 million times, with comments divided between nostalgic Aussies and 'freaked out' Americans.
'As a primary school teacher, I can't tell you the joy it gives me to give a student their pen licence,' one wrote.
'Anyone else left handed and have their pen licence taken off them when they smudged the ink across the page?' another reflected.
'No pen licences is crazy. How do you know you are safe and ready to use a pen without one?' one more wrote.
Then came the other side.
'This has to be a lie,' American singer Lauren Sanderson replied.
'No... this can't be real,' another echoed.
Even G Flip's own wife was dumbfounded.
'This can not be true - you have never told me this,' Chrishell wrote.
G Flip received a similar response when they covered the beloved pub and golf club tradition of winning a 'meat tray' in a raffle.
'I'm an Aussie who lives in America and I have an American wife... I think one of the funniest things to explain about Australian culture is that you can win a meat tray at the pub,' G Flip (born Georgia Flipo) said in the video.
'So you go to the pub and you can buy raffle tickets to win a meat tray - and you just win a tray of various uncooked meats like steaks, chops and sausages from the butcher, completely raw. You get to go home with a meat tray.
'And everyone I ever told that to who's American is like... "What the f***".'

Kylie Kelce reveals most 'terrifying' part of her meteoric rise to fame

Kylie Kelce has admitted it was 'terrifying' to open herself up to the public when her wildly successful podcast launched back in November. The wife of retired NFL star Jason Kelce, and brother-in-law to Travis, started her 'Not Gonna Lie' podcast back in November. It has proven to be a major hit with the show, at one point, surpassing Joe Rogan 's dominant podcast as No. 1 on both Spotify and Apple. Kylie has welcomed several high-profile guests to the show, including Michelle Obama, Kelly Clarkson, Ed Sheeran and Erin Andrews. Interest in the Kelce family has gone through the roof in recent years, dating back to when Jason and Travis played each other in the Super Bowl. Travis' relationship with Taylor Swift then turned them all into household names. In an interview with People, Kylie admitted it was 'terrifying' opening up her life to listeners but is proud of putting the interest in her famous family to good use. She said: 'My main focus is the theme that it's always been, which is if you're going to have to talk about me, you should talk about things that matter. So it's so exciting to have the podcast. I'm so excited to make the connection with women, with women in sports, with moms. 'I feel so fortunate to be in the position that I'm in, but I'm super happy that I get to do things like partnering with Dove and still doing work with the Eagles Autism Foundation and doing things that really truly speak to my soul and my heart. 'Those are the things that matter and those are the things that should be taking up space and those are the things that should be in front of everyone, so that's what I'm going to continue to do. 'I'm letting people in a little bit by talking about our lives and other stuff on the podcast and our experience day-to-day, [but] at the end of the day, these are the things that truly matter and these are the things I'm so grateful to get to be a part of.' It comes at the end of a sad week for the Kelce family after they attended the funeral of Ed Kelce's longtime girlfriend Maureen Maguire on Thursday. Pictures exclusively taken by the Daily Mail showed the likes of Jason and Kylie attending the small family service in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania on August 7. Jason and Kyle made the short trip within their home state, arriving five minutes before the start of the service, suited and booted and with a Starbucks in hand. The 37-year-old Jason appeared downcast as he arrived with wearing a light-colored shirt, dark tie and slacks with wife Kylie dressed in a simple knee-length black shift dress and strappy heels. The celebrity couple – who live a short drive from the church in a $6 million mega mansion in the wealthy suburb of Haverford, Pennsylvania - were among the last to join the line of mourners filing through the front doors of the church to say farewell to the partner of the Kelce patriarch, who died last Friday aged 74.

Kim Kardashian's ex-pal Larsa Pippen, 50, denies plastic surgery rumors after debuting shocking transformation

Kim Kardashian 's former friend Larsa Pippen has shut down plastic surgery rumors after she debuted a shocking transformation. The Real Housewives Of Miami star, 50, seemed puffier than usual during a segment of Good Night New York on Wednesday evening. Immediately, speculation began to swirl that she had gone under the knife and gotten work done to her face. But now, she has addressed the theories, and insisted that she did not get any plastic surgery. She claimed that an 'allergic reaction' to a beauty treatment was to blame for her new look. After one doctor posted a video to Instagram accusing Larsa of 'questionable surgery choices,' the reality star fired back in the comment section. 'Honey I had PRP and had an allergic reaction so chill out,' she wrote. PRP injections, or Platelet-Rich Plasma, 'uses a patient's own blood cells to accelerate healing in a specific area,' per 'After creating platelet-rich plasma from a patient's blood sample, that solution is injected into the target are,' the site says. 'PRP injections are sometimes used as an anti-aging treatment, but there is little evidence to show that PRP reduces wrinkles and other signs of aging.' 'Hey guys, you can relax, I had PRP on my face a couple of days ago, so my face is a bit swollen but it looks like I'm coming down,' Larsa also said in a video shared to her Instagram Stories. 'So you guys can just calm down.' Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Kahn told the Daily Mail earlier this week that he believed Larsa had fillers and Botox on her face. 'It looks like she has gotten some fresh fillers for summer,' he said. 'Her lips are swollen so she likely had plenty of filler on both the top and bottom lips for a fuller feeling. 'It is also likely she had Botox on her forehead because there is not one line, even when she smiles.' Larsa was beautifully made up for the TV appearance and donned a sleeveless floral-print dress She was with her much-younger boyfriend Jeff Coby who doted on his lady love. The reality TV diva started dating the Haitian-American basketball player, 31, earlier this year following her split from Marcus Jordan, 34. Despite only knowing each other for a short time, the couple are moving full steam ahead as they revealed in May that they had already been discussing engagement rings. At the time, Coby told Us Weekly, 'We're both super busy at the moment - the only thing I can say is to confirm that [a proposal is] coming.' Soon after, he told TMZ that they planned to wed in November 2026, but that he still hadn't proposed. During her Wednesday appearance in NYC, Larsa notably had a diamond ring on her wedding finger. Larsa was previously married to NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen from 1997 to 2021; the couple shares four kids: Scotty Jr., 24, Preston, 22, Justin, 19, and Sophia, 16. Larsa then had an on-again, off-again relationship with Marcus, the son of NBA legend and Chicago Bulls teammate of Scottie's, Michael Jordan. They dated for two years before calling it quits in March 2024.

Niusia review – hard family history lessons and taboo-busting humour

This story, told by Beth Paterson, is about her 'nanna Niusia … and I remember her as a bitch'. It is quite the statement about her 86-year-old grandmother whom she was taken to visit as a teenager, when all she wanted to do was go to the movies. To Paterson, Niusia was an old curmudgeon full of complaints and cruelties. But she proceeds to take us on the journey that she went on after Niusia's death, when she became curious about who her Polish immigrant grandmother had been before settling in Melbourne. It turns out that she had been Holocaust survivor, although, typically for one who had lived through its trauma, she rarely talked about the time 'before'. Under the direction of her collaborator Kat Yates, Paterson excavates her grandmother's past, beginning with her successful businesses in Melbourne, which she singlehandedly built. But the drama then spools back to the beginning: her birth in Warsaw in 1922, her ambitions to become a doctor before her imprisonment in Auschwitz and, chillingly, the medical work she was forced to do under the Nazi eugenicist Josef Mengele. Patterson's attitude toward Niusia changes after the airing of these memories, sourced through her mother, whose voice we hear in recordings. This is a surprisingly warm play given its theme of the Holocaust and inherited trauma. Paterson is a sweet, perky storyteller, singing at times and incorporating her play-making process into her narration. Sometimes this seems pertinent, other times unnecessary. She brings some taboo-busting humour to the subject, which also only half works. It defuses the tension but sounds like random lines from an edgy standup routine. There are life lessons for Paterson along the way, which she speaks aloud, recommending books that are in brown boxes and which she reaches for at various moments. It is clear that the disinterring of personal history is part of an education – one she now imparts to us. The narrative strays from Niusia towards the end, on to Paterson's Australian Jewish identity and the anxiety of not being seen as Jewish enough – which could make for a play of its own. It is ultimately Niusia's story that grips. Paterson puts on an accent to bring her back to life. We hear that she went on to have twins after leaving the camp. As Paterson says, isn't that the best 'fuck you' to Mengele? Quite. At Summerhall, Edinburgh, until 25 August All our Edinburgh festival reviews
