Peterborough sign Accrington midfielder Woods

Peterborough United have signed Accrington Stanley midfielder Ben Woods for an undisclosed fee on a four-year 22, scored 11 goals in 82 appearances for the Lancashire club, his last outing against Gillingham on 2 August, but he is currently recovering from a hand began his career in Manchester United's youth system and had a spell in Scotland with Inverness Caledonian Thistle before joining Accrington in the summer of 2023."He has been playing at left-wing back for Accrington for whatever reason, but he is a midfield player. He is left-footed, strong, scored seven goals last season so we feel he can add goals and assists," boss Darren Ferguson told the Posh website, external. "He is a good all-round midfield player, will play anywhere you ask him too. He has a great attitude and I love his mentality, definitely ready for the step-up."Ferguson added: "At the moment, he has just undergone a small operation on his hand, that is why he has missed a few games including the one against us [in the EFL Cup]. It will keep him out a period of time, around three weeks, which isn't ideal."Woods said: "I wanted to come to the club anyway, but as soon as I spoke to the manager, that cemented it in seconds. I feel it is the right time to make the move and the right club to make the move to."The positive aspect of currently being unavailable is that I can get myself settled, house-wise, get to know the players and the city and then when I am ready, I can focus fully on the football."Posh have lost all three League One games so far in the new season and are at home to Barnsley on Tuesday evening.

Malik Dijksteel is spot on for St Mirren as he becomes hit with his new Buddies

The Feyenoord youth academy product kept his cool at the sweltering SMiSA Stadium when it mattered most on Saturday. Malik Dijksteel insists stepping up in the shoot-out was the perfect way to become one of the Buddies. ‌ The St Mirren winger delivered the decisive strike as his side edged out Hearts 5-4 on penalties to reach the quarter-finals of the Premier Sports Cup. ‌ The 24-year-old — a summer signing from League of Ireland outfit Cork City — was brought on at the start of the second period of extra time with the sides locked at 1-1 after 120 minutes. ‌ Shamal George's save from Claudio Braga helped set up the winning moment for Dijksteel who was dreaming of being the headline act in Saturday's SMiSA Stadium showdown. 'Before the game you are thinking maybe you can go on and score the winner,' he said afterwards. 'But to be able to contribute in this way after the boys worked hard all game is a great feeling. 'Nervous? They were healthy nerves! I felt confident. Roland [Idowu] said to me to act like I'd already scored it and I thought that was good. 'I wanted to introduce myself in a good way. I wanted the team to win but I was kind of hoping it would come to the fifth penalty and I could score. I haven't practiced them in a while, if I'm honest. I always put it in the same spot although maybe I shouldn't say that! 'Overall, I thought we deserved the win. It's exciting to be part of it so hopefully I can get more minutes and I can keep working with the gaffer [Stephen Robinson], and keep learning.' He continued: 'I'm finally settling in. I've done two weeks here and I'm moving into a place next week with my family. ‌ 'The fans can expect excitement and hard work. I'm beginning to learn how the gaffer wants to play in terms of the pressing and the system. Once I have that, I will be able to bring my own twist to it and hopefully goals and assists.' Dijksteel will be joined by his girlfriend Lizzie and two-year-old son Remi as he looks to put down roots in Paisley after a nomadic career journey so far. Born in the Netherlands, he came through the youth system at Feyenoord and was on the books of both Middlesbrough and Wrexham before moving over to Cork. ‌ 'Everything has gone really quick and I'm just excited that I've got the whole season and I can get to know the gaffer and all of the players,' added Dijksteel. 'My son has been in Amsterdam, Ireland and now Scotland. 'My whole family and her family are big football fans and will try and come for every game. My girlfriend is from Newcastle and her family are all Newcastle season [ticket] holders.' Dijksteel admits he's got a couple of aspects of Scottish life to get to grips with —the accent and the winter weather. 'I think the Scotland accent is very hard and I've heard that in November the snow will already be coming down,' he smiled. 'Newcastle's cold but I've heard Scotland is even colder.'

Scotland international Ben Doak is set to complete a megabucks move to Bournemouth this week after the English Premier League outfit agreed a fee of £25million with Liverpool - though the transfer may not signal the end of his Anfield dream just yet. After a summer-long pursuit, it appears that the Cherries have won the race to sign the 19-year-old after beating off strong competition from Portuguese giants Porto for his signature. Everton and Leeds United were also understood to have held a strong interest in the winger, though they made no last ditch offer for his services. Alongside goalkeeper Callan McKenna, who was included in Steve Clarke's squad for June's friendly fixtures against Iceland and Liechtenstein, the youngster will become the third Scottish star currently playing on the south coast. West Ham United, Bologna, and Monaco had also been loosely linked with a move for the Tartan Army star, who impressed on loan with EFL Championship side Middlesbrough last season, scoring three goals and assisting a further seven before a thigh injury cut short his season at the Riverside Stadium. Both Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace also had bids rejected in January, with their offer of £16million falling well short of Liverpool's valuation. While Arne Slot's side is now accepting an offer of £25million for Doak, the club's belief that he could go on to be 'an elite talent' had seen them insert a special buy-back clause that could see him return to Liverpool, should the club opt to make a move in the future. According to several reports, the English Premier League champions have inserted a buyback clause into the deal, which could see him return to Liverpool in the future for around £50million Elsewhere, Celtic fans wondering if they will bank any windfall from the sale of their ex-academy starlet have been left disappointed, with reports claiming there was no sell-on fee included in the deal that took him to Anfield. Already capped six times by Scotland, the pacey winger began his career in the Celtic youth academy, making his senior debut for the club aged just 16 as a 68th-minute substitute for Anthony Ralston in a 1–0 Scottish Premiership win against Dundee United in January 2022.
