Washington decides to withdraw from UNESCO in pro-Israeli entity bias
Bethlehem - Saba: The New York Post reported on Tuesday that US President Donald Trump has decided to withdraw the United States from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in a new pro-Israeli entity bias. A White House source told the newspaper that Trump believes the organization has anti-American and anti-Israel tendencies. During his first term in 2017, Trump decided to withdraw the United States from UNESCO following disagreements over the organization's policy and stance toward Israel. In 2023, during Joe Biden's term in the White House, the United States announced its return to the organization. US officials stated that the decision to return to UNESCO was made in light of concerns about China's growing influence over decision-making within the organization following the US withdrawal. During his first term, Trump led the United States to withdraw from a number of other international institutions, including the World Health Organization and the UN Human Rights Council. He also announced the withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement and the nuclear deal between Iran and world powers. When Biden took over, he reinstated the United States in UNESCO, the WHO, and the climate agreement. Brazil condemns Trump's announcement of additional tariffs on BRICS countries
Brasilia – Saba: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva condemned on Tuesday US President Donald Trump's threats to impose tariffs on BRICS member states or those that express support for the group's policies. During a joint press conference with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, broadcast by the Brazilian government on social media, the Brazilian president said, "We do not accept any criticism directed at the BRICS summit, and we completely reject what the President of the United States hinted yesterday about the possibility of imposing tariffs on the bloc." The Brazilian president emphasized that BRICS brings together countries that seek peace, development, and the reduction of inequalities, adding, "We do not want wars, and we do not want confrontation. We want our countries to be able to achieve development and progress." Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of an additional 10 percent trade tariff on countries that express support for BRICS policies, deeming them anti-US. Belarus re-briefs UN on HR violations committed by Kyiv
Minsk - Saba: The press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the representative of Belarus, during the current session of the UN Human Rights Council, drew attention to numerous human rights violations committed by the Ukrainian authorities. According to the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "The Permanent Mission of the Republic participated in the discussion of the situation in Ukraine in the context of the reports of the UN Secretary-General and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, within the framework of the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva." The Belarusian delegation, whose statement was quoted by the press service, stated that "the new report of the Secretary-General submitted to the Council and the oral information of the High Commissioner are again characterized by imbalance, bias, and biased accusations against Russia. Once again, we see in them nothing but tools of pressure and an intention to discredit a sovereign state." It is noted that "numerous human rights violations by the Ukrainian authorities, rabid anti-Russian hostility, hate speech, and incitement to ethnic hatred continue to fuel the conflict." The statement emphasized that many of the aforementioned problems remain beyond the attention of human rights bodies. We provide all possible assistance to maintain humanitarian contact between the parties. We call on other countries, as well as international organizations, to work towards de-escalation and the establishment of peace as soon as possible." Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated on Tuesday that during talks with US Presidential Special Representative Keith Kellogg, he conveyed to the US side the position of Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the possibility of a ceasefire in Ukraine. According to the Belarusian news agency "BelTA", Lukashenko said, following the official part of his speech at a festive meeting to mark Independence Day: "The Americans are talking a lot today about a truce, at least in the air. I discussed this issue earlier with Vladimir Putin (Russian President), and this is not the first time it has been raised. Putin correctly says, 'We are for it, not against it, and we do not want American, British, French, and German missiles to hit our cities,'" referring to the ongoing drone attacks.
