In 2026, NDA will form government in TN, says Amit Shah; DMK hits back
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday asserted that the NDA would form government in Tamil Nadu and targeted the DMK government by firing fresh "corruption" salvos, including the Rs 4,600 crore sand mining scam.
Speaking at a Bharatiya Janata Party Karyakarta Sammelan in Madurai, calling it the 'city of Parivartan', Shah rallied BJP volunteers towards dislodging the DMK from power.
Chief Minister M K Stalin claimed that Shah cannot defeat the DMK and he is correct in a sense, he said, adding, "It is not Shah who will defeat the DMK, it is the people of Tamil Nadu who will bring about that change."
Shah said that his extensive electoral experience gives him insight into public sentiment, and expressed firm belief that Tamil Nadu voters will oust the DMK government this time.

UP govt planning to two leather parks named after Sant Ravidas
Lucknow: To ensure dignity and empowerment of Dalits in the state, the UP govt is set to establish two leather parks named after Sant Ravidas, which will create employment opportunities for leather artisans. Among other initiatives for Dalit uplift, 10 textile parks are planned under the Sant Kabir Das CM Mitra Park Yojana. Canteens and rest houses will also be constructed in all 'krishi mandis' in the name of Mata Shabari. "In March, CM Yogi inaugurated a satsang bhawan at Ravidas Temple in Ayodhya, constructed at a cost of Rs 1.15 crore by the state govt. The Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar Memorial and Cultural Centre in Lucknow has been built, which is a source of pride for the Dalit community. 'Zero Poverty Programme' was announced to be named after Babasaheb, marking a historic step," a govt spokesperson said. "Focusing on education, the govt launched the Sant Ravidas Shiksha Sahayata Yojana, providing financial assistance to children of labourers through scholarships. Atal Residential Schools have been established at all 18 divisional headquarters, offering free residential education for underprivileged children. Jayaprakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalayas reserve 60% of seats for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes students, delivering quality education to meritorious poor students," he said. "The Mukhyamantri Abhyuday Yojana offers free coaching for competitive exams' aspirants in every district. Free residential coaching centres operate in Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh, Varanasi, and Hapur, while a dedicated centre for judicial services exam preparation functions in Prayagraj," he said. The Dr BR Ambedkar Hostel Scheme provides 264 hostels for SC, ST, and OBC students, offering free accommodation, electricity, furniture, newspapers, and competitive exam materials. "The CM has emphasized making Dalit youth economically self-reliant through various programmes over the past eight years. The Ambedkar Social Innovation Incubation Mission arranges venture capital funding for SC students in higher education institutions to support innovation and entrepreneurship. The Stand-Up India Scheme provides SC/ST youth with loans ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1 crore," he said. "Over the past eight years, the govt has also preserved and promoted the cultural identity of the Dalit community by establishing a tribal museum for the Tharu tribe in Balrampur and another museum named after Birsa Munda in Mirzapur-Sonbhadra," he added. "Under the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana, 4.76 lakh couples have been married, with financial assistance increased from Rs 51,000 to Rs 1 lakh," the spokesperson said.

Keeladi Report Not Technically Supported
Chennai: Union minister for culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Tuesday said the report on Keeladi submitted by ASI superintending archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna was not "technically well-supported" and more data was required. The Union minister was in Chennai to speak to reporters about the 11 years of achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led govt at the centre. Speaking to reporters at the BJP headquarters in the city, Shekhawat said, "The report is not technically well-supported and established yet. A lot of things are to be done before recognition and accreditation are accorded to the findings presented by the archaeologist. Let them come up with more results, more data, evidence, and proof. One finding cannot change the discourse of history." Archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna submitted a 982-page report on the first two phases of the Keeladi excavation to ASI in Jan 2023. But the ASI on May 21 asked him to correct the report to make it "more authentic". "People in positions are trying to flare up the regional sentiments, but we need to be cautious. Let the research get completed on all parameters and then let us take a call on that. This is a subject not to be decided by politicians but by archaeologists with sound technical expertise," Shekhawat said. Asked about DMK's charges that BJP was not ready to accept the ancientness of Tamil culture, Shekhawat refuted it, saying BJP accepts that Tamil is an ancient language and the PM has said this on several occasions. Meanwhile, state finance minister Thangam Thennarasu, who is also the state minister for archaeology, responded to Shekhawat, saying it is usual for BJP to find reasons to reject Tamil history. "First, they said there was nothing in Keeladi. Next, the archaeologist was transferred. Then they refused to allocate funds and finally, they shelved the report for two years. Only the reasons differ for rejecting Tamil history," Thangam said. Thangam said when researchers across the world agree that Tamils are 5,350 years old, knew technology back then, and were owners of the oldest civilization, what is preventing the BJP from accepting it? Gandhinagar: Speaking at an event to mark 11 years of the Modi govt at the Centre, Union jal shakti minister and state BJP president C R Paatil said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi ended appeasement politics in the country and ushered in accountability and transparency in governance after taking over as PM in 2014.
