Tekashi 6ix9ine friend Ariela La Langosta shot to death in possible targeted attack
The 33-year-old model, whose real name is Ariela Mejia-Polanco, suffered several gunshot wounds before her body was discovered behind the wheel of her vehicle on Sunday morning, according the Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office. Police said Ariela's car was located just after 8 a.m.in Mount Vernon, along the parkway's eastbound shoulder near Broad Street.
'Preliminary investigation determined that the woman was likely targeted for violence and her death was not a random act,' the Westchester County Police Department said in a press release.
'The homicide remains under investigation by detectives from the General Investigations Unit,' it continued. 'Due to that ongoing investigation, additional details are not being disclosed at this time.'
Ariela, who boasts more than 560,000 followers on Instagram, starred in Tekashi 6ix9ine's 'Wapae' music video in 2023.
The rapper paid tribute to his late friend in a series of Instagram stories following the news of her death, writing in Spanish in one post that she was the 'queen of New York.' He also said she was like a 'sister' to him and that she 'supported him' through everything.
'NY won't ever be the same,' Tekashi added. 'I loved you.'
Ikon New York, the Manhattan restaurant and disco lounge where Ariela worked, also honored the influencer on social media.
'She was a brilliant, humble soul with incredible energy — the kind of person who could light up any room she entered,' the restaurant said. 'She will be deeply missed by all of us. Please take a moment to cherish and love your own loved ones. Life is precious.'
Starlets of New York, a nightclub in Queens, also mourned Ariela's death, remembering her as 'a beautiful friend, loving mother, and daughter whose smile and energy lit up every room she entered' in a post on Instagram.
'Her energy will forever be missed, but her spirit will always live on with us.'

Driver charged with DWI after crash leads to veterinary clinic explosion
A hit-and-run driver crashed into a North Carolina veterinary clinic on Tuesday, causing a gas explosion that left three firefighters injured, authorities said. Jason Lee Beach, 46, was charged with felony DWI with serious injury, possession of drug paraphernalia, hit and run, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane, the Wilmington Police Department said in a press release. He is being held at the New Hanover County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond. Three firefighters were injured in the blast, with one sustaining severe burns to the hands and arms. Florida man executed for 1982 killing of abducted woman, in state's 10th execution of 2025
A man convicted of abducting a woman from a Florida Panhandle insurance office and killing her was executed Tuesday evening. Kayle Bates, 67, was pronounced dead at 6:17 p.m. following a three-drug injection at Florida State Prison near Starke under a death warrant signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. It was the 10th death sentence carried out by the state of Florida in 2025, extending the state record for executions in a single year. Two more executions are planned within the next month. Alex Lanfranconi, a spokesman for DeSantis, said Bates said "no" when asked if he had any final words just before the drugs began flowing. Florida's executions are carried out using a three-drug lethal injection: a sedative, a paralytic and a drug that stops the heart, according to the state Department of Corrections. The Department of Corrections said Bates awoke at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday and had three visitors, his daughter, his sister and his brother-in-law. He declined a last meal and did not meet with a spiritual adviser, department spokesman Ted Veerman said. Since the U.S. Supreme Court restored the death penalty in 1976, the highest previous annual total of Florida executions was eight in 2014. Florida has executed more people than any other state this year, while Texas and South Carolina are tied for second place with four each. Alabama has executed three people, Oklahoma two, and Arizona, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee have carried out one each, according to the nonprofit Death Penalty Information Center, which tracks executions nationwide. DeSantis has signed at least 20 execution warrants since taking office in 2019, and he has never held a clemency hearing for a prisoner on death row, according to the DPIC. Bates was convicted of first-degree murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and attempted sexual battery in the June 14, 1982, killing of Janet White in Bay County in the Florida Panhandle. Bates abducted White from the insurance office where she worked, took her into some woods behind the building, attempted to rape her, stabbed her to death and tore a diamond ring from one of her fingers, according to court documents. Attorneys for Bates filed appeals with the Florida Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as a federal lawsuit claiming DeSantis' process for signing death warrants was discriminatory. The lawsuit was recently dismissed by a judge who found problems with the lawsuit's statistical analysis. The Florida Supreme Court recently denied Bates' pending claims, including arguments that evidence of organic brain damage had been inadequately considered during his second penalty phase. The court ruled Bates has had three decades to raise these claims. And on Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected Bates' last appeals to block the execution. Curtis Windom, 59, is set to become the 11th person executed in Florida on Aug. 28. He was convicted of killing three people in the Orlando area in 1992. With Tuesday's execution, a total of 29 men had died by court-ordered execution so far this year in the U.S., and at least nine other people were scheduled to be put to death in seven states during the remainder of 2025. In 2024, there were 25 executions across the U.S., according to the DPIC. The last time a Florida prisoner on death row was granted clemency was in 1983, according to the DPIC. It was over Gov. Bob Graham's concerns of the inmate's possible innocence. Since 1973, an average of four wrongly convicted death-row prisoners have been exonerated each year nationwide, DPIC's data show. Florida has had 30 exonerations from death-row in its history, according to the DPIC, the highest of any state. David Pittman, 63, would be the 12th person executed in Florida if his death sentence is carried out as scheduled Sept. 17. He was found guilty of fatally stabbing his estranged wife's sister and parents at their Polk County home before setting it on fire in 1990. As of April 1, Florida has the second most number of death-row inmates with 278, according to the DPIC. California is first with 585 death-row inmates.
