Sharif stressed that Israel's attacks on Iran are a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international law. The premier further underscored that Pakistan would continue to stand by Iran in the face of Israeli aggression and maintain its commitment to supporting Iran's sovereignty on the global stage. Earlier, speaking at the soft launch of the 2nd Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference (PIMEC 2025), the PM outlined his vision for transforming Pakistan into a regional maritime powerhouse. "It is a great pleasure to see the Pakistan Navy, under the patronage of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and in collaboration with key partners, organising the second edition of PIMEC," the PM said. In his address, Sharif emphasised the pivotal role of the Pakistan Navy in national defence and regional security, noting, "The Pakistan Navy has been a formidable force through all conflicts and remains a strong pillar of our national security." The PM also reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to international peace and maritime law, citing the AMAN Exercise, which involved over 50 countries, as a symbol of Pakistan's cooperative maritime posture. With more than 1,000 kilometres of coastline and strategic positioning along vital sea lanes, Sharif stated that Pakistan was uniquely positioned to tap into the trillion-dollar global blue economy. "Even tapping a fraction of this economy could be a real game-changer," he said, adding, "Our coastal trade already brings in nearly $7 billion a year, and just imagine the potential if we fully develop this sector." The PM drew inspiration from global success stories, notably Japan, which, despite limited maritime resources, became a global leader in marine infrastructure and regional trade. "Let there be open competition," he said, stressing the importance of resilience, innovation, and strategic investment. Sharif concluded by highlighting the need to transform Pakistan's maritime sector into a driver of inclusive, sustainable economic growth. He called for greater synergy between the public and private sectors, saying, "The time has come to take the lead."

DPM Dar strongly rejects 'irresponsible' fake news about nuclear strike on Israel
Listen to article Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has strongly rejected what he called "irresponsible" and "fabricated" fake news circulating on social media, which falsely attributed to a senior Iranian general a claim that Pakistan would launch a nuclear strike on Israel in retaliation for any attack on Iran. Speaking in the Senate on Monday, Dar condemned the spread of false information in the wake of rising regional tensions and urged restraint amid escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. "Pakistan has made no such statement. This is an extremely irresponsible and fabricated claim," he said. He warned that "war is no joke" and reaffirmed that the country's nuclear and missile programmes are purely for self-defence. "ایرانی جنرل کو کوٹ کر کے کہا ہے کے اگر اسرائیل نے ہمارے اوپر پر حملہ کیا تو پاکستان اسرائیل پر نیوکلیئر حملہ کر دے گا یہ جھوٹی خبر ہے" ۔۔۔ ڈپٹی وزیراعظم اسحاق ڈار — Faisal Abbasi (@Faisalabassi) June 16, 2025 "Our nuclear and missile programme is for our own protection," he told lawmakers. "We stated back in 1998 that our nuclear weapons are for defence and regional peace. We haven't signed the NPT because maintaining credible deterrence is necessary for our security." DPM also criticised the circulation of fake news on social media, citing an artificial intelligence-generated video falsely attributed to US President Donald Trump and disinformation regarding Pakistan's nuclear posture. Deputy Premier @MIshaqDar50 exposes the coordinated disinformation campaign targeting Pakistan. — Hamza Azhar Salam (@HamzaAzhrSalam) June 16, 2025 "There was a video clip about Trump that later turned out to be AI-generated," he said. "Since June 13, many fake stories have surfaced. Netanyahu's interview being circulated is from 2011. This is not child's play — this is a serious war. We must act with caution." He also clarified that Pakistan had played a constructive diplomatic role. "We engaged during the UN Security Council session. Iran appreciated Pakistan's role," Dar said. "Foreign ministers of Oman and Iran kept me informed. Iran's foreign minister stayed in constant touch during talks," he added.
