Yogini Ekadashi 2025: Story
According to Hindu Scriptures, there was a gardener named Hemamali who served Kuber and was passionately in love with his wife. One day, he became so engrossed in his feelings for his wife, Swarupawati, that he forgot to gather flowers for Kuber. As a result, Kuber did not receive the flowers and sent another Yaksha to investigate why Hemamali failed to deliver them. After knwoing the reason, an infuriated Kuber cursed Hemamali with leprosy. After being banished from Alkapuri, Hemamali roamed the forest alone, where he encountered Markandeya Rishi, who advised him to observe the Yogini Ekadashi Vrat to alleviate his troubles.
With immense devotion and commitment, he worshipped Lord Vishnu, fasting and adhering to all the rituals while reciting the Vrat katha. Charbagh station touches 100 years of its foundation

1 2 Lucknow: Northern Railway on Sunday unveiled a commemorative booklet celebrating the 100 years of Charbagh Railway Station completing its foundation. Sunil Kumar Verma, divisional railway manager (DRM), Lucknow Division, was the chief guest. More than a transit hub, Charbagh stands as a living monument in the heart of Lucknow. According to the booklet, its story began in 1914, when Bishop George Herbert laid the foundation stone. After nearly a decade of construction, the station's foundations were completed on Aug 1, 1925. Now, in 2025, it enters its centenary foundation year, symbolizing a century of visionary engineering and cultural legacy. "Charbagh is not just a station; it's a heritage site that reflects the soul of Lucknow," said the DRM. Built in the Indo-Saracenic architectural style, Charbagh seamlessly blends Rajput, Awadhi, Mughal, and Western design elements. Its unique structure ensures that even with over 250 trains passing daily, the sound remains inaudible from outside — a marvel of acoustic foresight. The booklet also highlights Charbagh's historical significance. On Dec 26, 1916, the station hosted the first meeting between Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, marking a pivotal moment in India's freedom movement. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Access all TV channels anywhere, anytime Techno Mag Learn More Undo From colonial rule to independence, Charbagh has silently witnessed countless stories of arrivals, farewells, and reunions. The artifacts from the British era — including East India Rail monogrammed cabinets, vintage water gauges, and century-old wooden furniture — still adorn its platforms and corridors, preserving the essence of a bygone era. Serving 14 districts with a rail network spanning 1,497.7 route km and 198 stations, Charbagh remains the beating heart of Northern Railway — a station where history meets modernity, said an official. TATR All Set to Translocate 500 Chitals to NNTR to Boost Prey Base for Tigers

Chandrapur: The Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) management is set to begin translocating 500 spotted deer (Chitals) from Chandrapur to the Navegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve (NNTR) in Gondia as part of the ongoing wildlife management project. The initiative aims to strengthen the prey base in NNTR, which has fewer herbivores and, consequently, a lower population of carnivores. The forest department launched the tiger relocation project to curb man-animal conflicts in Chandrapur and Yavatmal districts by shifting excess tigers to NNTR. In the first two phases, a few tigers, both from Yavatmal and Bramhapuri division in Chandrapur, were relocated last year. "Like big cats, the herbivore population in NNTR is also low. A robust prey base is essential for the relocated tigers to survive and thrive. Hence, we will move 500 Chitals from TATR to NNTR in phases from September this year," said a TATR official. In the first phase, approximately 100–150 Chitals are expected to be relocated, followed by the remaining Chitals in subsequent months. Large enclosures—known as Bomas- have been prepared at TATR and NNTR. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? Similarly, after translocation, the deer will be kept in Bomas for acclimatisation before being released into the wild. The herbivores will be introduced in ranges including Umarzari, Koka, Navegaon Park, and Dongargaon Bonde within NNTR. TATR deputy director (Core) Anand Reddy said preparations are in the final stages. "The Boma is ready in TATR, and transport vehicles are being modified for the purpose. The capture operation will begin in September, and translocation will start simultaneously when the first batch is ready for translocation," he said. ACF Vivek Nathu, who is supervising the project, claimed that two vehicles, each with a capacity of 30-35 animals, are being modified. Nathu claimed that the translocation will be a coordinated operation between the TATR and NNTR. The NNTR authorities have also prepared release closures in their area where these translocated chitals will be kept for acclimatisation. After the first batch is acclimatised and released in the jungle in NNTR, the next batch of spotted deer will be translocated from here, he explained. Covering 653.67 sq km, NNTR boasts dense forests but has limited grassland—vital for both herbivores and predators. The management is addressing this by planting more grass species to support a sustainable ecosystem for its wildlife. The state government in a letter dated December 27, 2024, provided permission for the capturing and translocation of 500 cheetahs from TATR to NNTR on set conditions. 1 in 4 live in shanties across urban South Goa: Govt data

Margao: While Goa projects itself as a premier tourist destination, recent data tabled in the state legislative assembly in its recently concluded-session revealed a troubling urban reality affecting South Goa. Even as a new census is overdue, data from the 2011 census reveals that 26,850 people live in slum conditions across three municipalities — Mormugao, Ponda, and Margao. The most shocking statistics come from Mormugao, where more than one in every four residents — or 25.7% — lives in slum conditions. Of the port town's 94,393 residents, 24,227 are housed in 10 distinct slum areas, including Baina, Mangor Hill, Khariwada, Jetty, Gandhinagar, New Vaddem, Shantinagar, and Non-Mon. Ponda presents a more manageable but still concerning picture. With 982 residents living in two slum settlements — Shantinagar and Panditwada — the town has a 4.3% slum population. However, the conditions reveal severe overcrowding, particularly in Shantinagar, where 787 people are crammed into just 35 households, an average of 22 residents per household. In Margao, the state's commercial capital, 1.9% of its 87,650 residents live in slums, with 1,641 people housed in two settlements — Azad Nagar and Moti Dongor. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Across these three towns, encompassing 14 slum areas and nearly 27,000 people, only three settlements have been officially 'notified' by authorities — a designation that offers benefits of govt welfare schemes and development funds. In Mormugao, only Baina, Mangor Hill, and Non-Mon have official recognition. New Vaddem, the largest slum with 4,676 residents across 1,100 households, remains unnotified. In Ponda, neither Shantinagar nor Panditwada have official status, despite housing nearly 1,000 people in challenging conditions. Similarly, both of Margao's slum areas lack official recognition, the data reveals. 'Once notified, authorities must provide basic services and eventual rehabilitation,' a district administration official explained. The municipality's largest slum, New Vaddem, exemplifies the crisis with 1,100 households sharing just 180 pit latrines and having access to only three public water points. Most settlements have minimal road infrastructure and rely on open drainage systems. While Ponda's overall slum population is smaller, the conditions are equally concerning. Shantinagar's 787 residents share 21 pit latrines — roughly 37 people per toilet facility. The settlement has only 1km of paved roads and five public water points. Panditwada, with 195 residents in 30 households, fares slightly better with 23 latrines and 5km of paved roads, but still lacks proper drainage. As for Margao, the data reveals that Moti Dongor's 866 residents across 402 households have no pit latrines but rely on other unspecified sanitation arrangements, with just 11 public water points and 0.5km of paved roads. Nevertheless, electricity connectivity shows relatively better coverage across all three towns, with most households having domestic connections. A committee was constituted in Jan 2025 to assess rehabilitation options for Moti Dongor. Official records reveal that the committee held meetings in April and July. However, months later, the committee is 'awaiting information from line departments'. Significantly, while govt budgeted copious amounts for slum redevelopment over the last three years — Rs 5 crore for 2023-24, Rs 3 crore for 2024-25, and Rs 5 crore for 2025-26, data shows there was 'nil' expenditure across this period.
