Amanda Knox and Monica Lewinsky, two women whose lives were dramatically altered by high-profile scandals, have come together in a collaboration by the Hulu limited series The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox . Though their controversies stem from vastly different circumstances—Knox from a wrongful murder conviction and Lewinsky from a presidential scandal—the intensity of public scrutiny and media attention they endured has left lasting marks on their personal and public identities.
Amanda Knox
Amanda Knox first captured global attention as a 20-year-old American student studying abroad in Perugia, Italy, when she was accused and convicted in connection with the 2007 murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher. Kercher was found sexually assaulted and murdered in their shared apartment, triggering an intense investigation. Knox and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were arrested and charged amid widespread media coverage. Knox's conviction was largely based on disputed forensic evidence. She was repeatedly interviewed without being given access to a lawyer.
After a series of trials, appeals, and retrials spanning several years, Knox was definitively acquitted by Italy's Supreme Court in 2015.Her saga became a worldwide media sensation, characterized by sensationalized headlines that portrayed her as 'Foxy Knoxy' and a calculating killerThe case was notable for its complex legal proceedings and heightened media sensationalism worldwide. Knox's ordeal disrupted her education, strained her personal relationships, and subjected her family to ongoing public scrutiny.
Monica Lewinsky became a central figure in one of the most significant political scandals in US history when her extramarital affair with then President Bill Clinton came to light in 1998.
Lewinsky, a 22-year-old White House intern at the time, maintained a secret relationship with Clinton, which eventually became the focus of investigations led by independent counsel Kenneth Starr. The scandal culminated in President Clinton's impeachment by the House of Representatives on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, though he was acquitted by the Senate. The wide-reaching political and media coverage exposed Lewinsky to invasive public scrutiny, stigmatizing her personal and professional life for years. She withdrew from public life for many years and has spoken openly about the long-lasting personal and career repercussions of the media storm.
Media and the commonality of judgment
Amanda Knox and Monica Lewinsky have both faced intense media scrutiny marked by sensationalism. Knox was subjected to distorted media portrayals that reduced her to caricatures. She endured over 50 hours of police questioning and years of public vilification, describing the experience as psychologically traumatic.
Lewinsky has become an advocate for anti-bullying and media literacy, emphasizing the broad impact of misrepresentation on women's self-perception. Knox has pursued public speaking and advocacy focusing on wrongful convictions.
As part of their ongoing public profiles, both Knox and Lewinsky have taken active roles in sharing their personal stories and experiences to provide a comprehensive perspective on their histories. Their collaboration on the Hulu series The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox seeks to illuminate the complexities behind the headlines and offer a detailed recounting of Knox's experience, with Lewinsky contributing as an executive producer.

Woman dies by suicide, 3 days after she was gang-raped

Ghaziabad: A 23-year-old Dalit woman allegedly died by suicide at her room in Loni on Thursday, three days after she was gang-raped by three men who offered her a lift home when she lost her way. The woman, according to her family, was battling psychological problems and was under medication for them. Her body was sent for an autopsy, whose reports were awaited. Around 7pm on Monday, the woman left her home without informing anyone in the family. She had previously left home in a similar manner, but each time, her family and neighbours had managed to bring her back safely. This time, too, the family started a frantic search for her. After around three hours, they found her 6.5km away near a tubewell in Nithori village. She told us she got lost and asked some people for directions. They offered to drop her home on a motorcycle but instead took her to Nithori and raped her one by one. There were three men. We immediately informed the police, following which a medical examination was held," her father said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo For the next couple of days, the woman was admitted to the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) in Delhi. She was discharged on Wednesday afternoon and brought back home. That night, after dinner, she went to sleep. The following morning, her father found her dead. "I knocked on the door for tea, but there was no response. I went away, thinking she needed some more rest. After a few hours, I knocked again for breakfast. She usually took medicine in the morning. So, I insisted that she wake up. When there was no response again, I forced the door open. There she was, motionless," he added. The woman would usually sleep with her parents. "One room is for my son and daughter-in-law and another remains empty. We didn't realise when our daughter left our room and went to the other one," he said. Alleging inaction, the woman's family staged a protest outside Loni police station earlier on Thursday, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and their exemplary punishment. The woman's father also appealed to CM Yogi Adityanath for justice, urging the govt to take decisive action without any delay. "Only this will satisfy my daughter's soul," he sobbed. However, late on Thursday evening, two of the accused were arrested after a gunfight with cops. Rohit Kumar (31) and Veer Singh (53), residents of Nithori village, suffered bullet wounds in their legs during the brief gunbattle. DCP (rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari said an FIR had been lodged against the accused under Section 64 (2) (k) (commit rape on a woman suffering from mental or physical disability) of BNS. In Ghaziabad, vehicle thefts peak at noon, chain snatchings after dark

Ghaziabad: They say time is money. Criminals in the district have taken it to another level — setting aside certain crimes for sunset and before that. Police data says while most chain-snatching cases take place after sunset, vehicle thefts are usually carried out before that. According to a TOI analysis — covering the period from April 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025 — about 59% of chain snatching incidents happened at night across the district, totalling 240 cases. A senior police officer said that so far, more than 450 snatchers were arrested this year. During the same period, a total of 2,212 vehicle thefts took place in Ghaziabad and the analysis shows that maximum vehicle thefts took place between 12 noon and 4pm, with 450 incidents, including 376 two-wheelers. However, vehicle thefts peak between afternoon and midnight hours. A total of 430 vehicle thefts, including 366 two-wheelers, occurred between 8pm and midnight. A total of 410 vehicles, including 346 two-wheelers, were stolen between 4am and 8am and 234 vehicles, including 197 two-wheelers, were stolen between midnight and 4am. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo During the time periods of 4pm to 8pm and 8am to 12 noon, 344 vehicles, including 282 two-wheelers, were stolen each time. As for chain snatchings in Ghaziabad after sunset, there was a noticeable increase in robberies after 6pm. In the morning, from 4am to 10am, when most residents went for morning walks, the gym, or to offices, 24 chain snatchings occurred. Most of the robberies during this time occurred near parks, gyms and victims' houses. Previously, it was found that snatchers targeted individuals in the morning due to a lack of police presence on the roads and lower foot traffic. However, a new trend has been observed from 12 noon to 4pm, with 66 people becoming victims of chain snatching incidents in just four hours. After sunset, criminals became more aggressive and exploited the darkness, targeting more people. The number increased every hour. A total of 23 chain snatching incidents took place from 6pm to 8pm, increasing to 47 from 8pm to 10pm and reaching 51 from 10pm to midnight. Indirapuram was the hotspot for chain-snatching incidents, with a total of 66 cases reported over the past year (April 1, 2024, to April 30, 2025). This is about 27% of the total such crimes registered during the period across the district. Kavi Nagar and Kaushambi shared the second position on the list, each recording 20 incidents. Nandgram ranked third as the area with the highest number of chain-snatching incidents, where 17 incidents took place. Masuri and Bhojpur, with just one snatching case, were found to be the safest for residents and pedestrians. This was followed by Niwari and Tronica City, with only two incidents each. Surprisingly, 1,845 two-wheelers were stolen out of the 2,212 vehicles: 83% were two-wheelers, while 10% were four-wheelers and 7% were three-wheelers. The maximum number of vehicle lifting cases comes from Indirapuram, with 235, followed by Kavi Nagar with 228 and Loni with 153. In May this year, thieves made off with a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle from the State Tax Building, Collectorate Compound, Raj Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Kavi Nagar police station. Police officials identified the motorcycle owner as Surendra Kumar, who serves as chief assistant in the state tax department. In May this year, another vehicle theft of a motorcycle occurred at the Govindpuram Sunday market under the jurisdiction of Kavi Nagar police station. The police identified Pradeep Kumar, a Meerut resident, as the victim. He reported that he parked his HF Deluxe motorcycle (UP15 CX0224) at the weekly market whilst shopping. Upon returning an hour later, his vehicle vanished. Nimish Patil, DCP of Trans-Hindon, said that in 2024, there was a 25% decline in snatchings in the Trans-Hindon area, while this year, a 15% decline has been seen. "A few steps were taken, like more CCTV cameras were installed. A team of police inspected all the shops in the market and put an eye towards the road and helped the shopkeepers and people to install the cameras with proper guidelines," he said. "We made a hotspot for snatchings and vehicle thefts in the Trans-Hindon area, like there are seven hotspots in Indirapuram, five in Shalimar Garden, four in Sahibabad and three in Kaushambi and Link Road. A police team is deployed at these points for 24 hours and we also deploy police officers in civil dress in local markets," he said. A senior police officer said that the district has a total of 120 PRVs and 240 cheetah bikes patrolling the city. "Every police station in Ghaziabad has its own PC mobile vehicles. We have also increased our visibility on the roads. We have identified the hotspots of street crimes and will deploy teams accordingly. We also plan to form a special team in every police station to tackle such crimes," the officer said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Delhi Court Upholds Dismissal of Plea Seeking FIR over MF Husain Paintings Exhibition

New Delhi: A Delhi court upheld the dismissal of a plea seeking the registration of an FIR for the exhibition of two works depicting Hindu deities by the late painter MF Husain at DAG (formerly Delhi Art Gallery) alleged to be offensive. The court observed that it did not find any "illegality" in an earlier court's order. The court of additional sessions judge Saurabh Partap Singh Laler upheld an order passed by a judicial magistrate first class earlier this year, noting that it reflected a reasoned application of mind, aligning with statutory provisions and judicial precedents. "No police investigation is required at this stage, as evidence is accessible and Section 225 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita provides an adequate mechanism for any future inquiry. The criminal revision petition is dismissed. The proceedings before the learned JMFC shall continue as per law," the additional sessions judge said. The complaint against the exhibition was lodged by lawyer Amita Sachdeva. The additional sessions judge noted that the allegations about the paintings being hurtful to Hindus, while sensitive, pertained to artworks in a private gallery, not public incitement or violence. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo It stated, "No communal unrest is reported, and the seized evidence suffices for adjudication. The petitioner faces no prejudice, as she can lead evidence in the complaint case. " You Can Also Check: Delhi AQI | Weather in Delhi | Bank Holidays in Delhi | Public Holidays in Delhi | Gold Rates Today in Delhi | Silver Rates Today in Delhi On Jan 22, the JMFC's court dismissed Sachdeva's application filed under Section 175 (3) of BNSS, seeking directions to the station house officer of the police station concerned to register an FIR against the top officials of DAG. Judicial magistrate first class Sahil Monga, in his order dated Jan 22, noted that CCTV footage of DAG, network video recorder and the paintings in question had already been seized. He said that no further investigation and collection of evidence were required at this stage of the case because all the evidence was in the possession of the complainant as well as on record. The court, however, allowed Sachdeva to present the evidence directly to the magistrate. It will examine whether there is sufficient ground to proceed with the matter. In her complaint, Sachdeva alleged that two paintings of the late painter on display at DAG "depicted Hindu gods and goddesses in an obscene manner". Her complaint also sought the preservation of CCTV footage from Dec 4, 6, and 10, 2024 — the dates when the exhibition took place. On Jan 20, the court ordered the seizure of the two paintings by the celebrated painter following Sachdeva's complaint. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
