SCCS aims for RM1 mln and 400 shaves in GoBald 2025
KUCHING (July 2): The Sarawak Children's Cancer Society (SCCS) aims to raise RM1 million and have 400 individuals shave their heads through its GoBald event this year.
In a press release, SCCs said it records between 50 to 70 new childhood cancer cases in the state each year.
SCCS explained it requires approximately RM2 million annually to sustain its services, with over 70 per cent of funds directly benefiting affected children through medical sponsorships, financial aid, and specialised treatment.
'In 2024, SCCS incurred RM2.9 million in expenses, a 43 per cent increase from the previous year, largely due to critical medical aid support exceeding RM500,000.
'As of May this year, SCCS has already spent approximately RM590,000 to support 33 children and their families with essential medical needs, including specialised medication, consumables, laboratory tests, and diagnostic scans. This includes over RM496,000 in support of five-year-old Ariyana from Miri, who is battling neuroblastoma and recently underwent a bone marrow transplant and immunotherapy,' said SCCS.
According to SCCS, an estimated eight more children will benefit from specialised drugs sponsored by the organisation.
Amongst them are two more young patients: a five-year-old boy from Serian and a one-year-old girl from Kuching — both scheduled to undergo immunotherapy in the second half of the year.
SCCS said these advanced treatments offer renewed hope of improving their treatment journeys and significantly increasing their chances of survival.
'SCCS is projected to incur an unprecedented RM1.5 million in medical-related expenses in 2025 alone,'it added.
SCCS also shared this year's GoBald theme, 'Leave Your Mark', is a powerful call to action and an invitation for individuals to make a lasting impact.
'Funds raised will go toward providing critical medical aid, psychosocial support, and financial assistance to young cancer patients across Sarawak,' it added.
On a related matter, SCCS said a satellite shave hosted by long-time supporter Tanahmas Hotel, initially scheduled for July 6, has now been postponed to July 27.
It explained that the rescheduling aims to allow more time for the Sibu community to participate and show their support for this meaningful cause.

Mutiara GRS contributes RM10,000 to KK Palliative Care Association

Its chairwoman, Datin Seri Panglima Juliah Salag, stated that the visit to PCAKK aimed to deliver the contribution as support for the organization's activities in providing palliative care to patients in need, brightening their lives. 'This morning, Mutiara GRS visited palliative care patients in Kota Kinabalu to deliver a modest contribution to assist PCAKK in their activities. We hope what we presented today will bring cheer to the children under the care of palliative services here,' she told the media after the Mutiara GRS charity visit to PCAKK in Kota Kinabalu today. She added that Mutiara GRS will persist in its service mission through community outreach and welfare programs across Sabah, including rural areas. NSCMH private placement kicks off with RM25mil investment from president
SEREMBAN: NSCMH Holdings Sdn Bhd has launched its private placement exercise with a strong show of confidence from the Negri Sembilan Chinese Maternity Association (NSCMA) president, Datuk Seri Lee Tian Hock, who became the first subscriber with a RM25mil investment for 10 million shares. In a statement, NSCMH said support also came swiftly from the Seremban Wah Chai Association and the Negeri Sembilan Persatuan Hainan, which committed RM1mil and RM250,000 respectively. Following a briefing session, the three parties submitted their subscription forms on the spot. The private placement, priced at RM2.50 per share, is open to members of the NSCMA, employees, association members, and attending doctors of CMH Specialist Hospital and CMH Dialysis Care. A minimum subscription of 100,000 shares applies, with the exercise running until September 6. Lee conducted the briefing, outlining the mechanics of the placement, the hospital's long-term development blueprint, and answering questions from attendees. He assured that should the subscription be oversubscribed, he would reduce his portion to accommodate others; however, if undersubscribed, he would take up the balance to ensure the success of the exercise. 'This is not only a fundraising initiative but also a commitment to social responsibility. By leading with my own investment, I hope to inspire confidence and drive collective participation towards the success of this private placement,' Lee said. NSCMH plans to issue 18 million new shares, targeting RM45mil to finance 30% of the RM120mil construction cost for CMH Specialist Hospital's new medical block under its phase two redevelopment project. The remaining RM80mil will be funded through bank borrowings guaranteed personally by Lee, with corporate guarantees from the NSCMA and NSCMH Holdings. Lee stressed that the arrangement does not involve mortgaging hospital land or buildings and complies fully with the Association's constitution. Upon completion of the exercise, the NSCMA will retain a controlling stake of 69% in the company.
