Bathinda
: Four persons, including foreign-based gangster Arsh Dala's father
Charanjit Singh
, were acquitted in a
murder case
in Bathinda. The accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence after the witnesses turned hostile and doubts arose over the recovered weapons.
Bathinda Mall Road Shopkeepers' Association president and owner of Harman Amritsar Kulcha, Harjinder Singh, also known as Mela, was killed outside his shop in Bathinda on Oct 28, 2023.
Angry over the killing of a shopkeeper in a broad daylight, the traders protested by closing their business establishments and blocking the main road in the town by placing the body. Congress leader
Navjot Singh Sidhu
and slain rapper Sidhu Moosewala's father, Balkaur Singh, were present.
Given the enormity of the situation, the district police announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for information about the accused by releasing their sketches.
Defence counsel Harpal Singh Khaara said that a challan was presented against four accused — Arsh Dala's father Charanjit Singh, Paramjit Singh alias Pamma, Kamaljit Singh alias Komaljit Singh and Lovely Singh alias Lavi Singh.
As per the judgment by the court of special court/additional sessions judge Rajesh Kumar, on the overall appraisal of the evidence on record, the prosecution was not able to prove its case against the accused beyond reasonable doubt.
The material witnesses, complainant Aarti Johal, wife of Harjinder Singh; Jagmail Singh, manager at Harman Kulcha; and Vikram Singh, cook at Harman Kulcha, did not support the case of the prosecution. The remaining witnesses proved the formal investigation proceedings. There was no other independent evidence to prove the allegations leveled in the FIR. There was no substantive evidence on record to prove the charges framed against the accused.

Lorry mows down two in Bhongir

Hyderabad: Two people were killed and another injured when a lorry rammed into pedestrians in Bhongir on Sunday. The deceased were identified as C Rama Krishna (35) and C Sai Kumar (22), both natives of Zaheerabad. According to police officials, the incident occurred while the trio was standing at a sweet stall. "A lorry, which was heading towards Hyderabad from Jagdevpur, lost control and rammed into them. Both Krishna and Kumar died on the spot," they said. Police suspect that the lorry lost control due to a mechanical issue that caused brake failure. The accident occurred at a curve where the driver was supposed to take a right turn but failed to do so. Instead, he drove straight and rammed the pedestrians. Police registered a case against the lorry driver, and an investigation is on. The injured person was shifted to the hospital and his condition is said to be stable. Accreditation case: HC asks CBI for ‘suitable' nursing college list

Bhopal/Jabalpur: The MP high court has directed the CBI to furnish its reports on nursing colleges found fit to operate in the state, while hearing a PIL alleging irregularities in granting recognition. The central probe agency was also directed to share the reports with Vishal Baghel, who had filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the HC pointing to gross irregularities in accreditation across the state. The court had ordered a CBI probe into credentials of all the nursing colleges of the state. The CBI had carried out the probe, and divided the colleges in three categories -- "suitable", "unsuitable"and those who can be allowed to operate if they make certain improvements in the college infrastructure. A bench of justices Atul Sreedharan and Anuradha Shukla asked the CBI to scan the reports of colleges found "suitable", and file reports. The CBI had told the HC that the reports run into lakhs of pages and it doesn't have manpower and resources to scan papers in such large numbers. The high court now asked the govt to help the CBI with resources and manpower to carry out the scanning work, and said the scanning work should be carried out under the CBI supervision.
