Galway Utd boss on the secret to competing with richer clubs in transfer market
Caulfield pulled off one of the finds of the season when he brought striker Moses Dyer to Eamonn Deacy Park from Canadian side Vancouver FC.
He has been rewarded with Dyer's eight goals so far propelling him to the top of the Premier Division scoring charts.
The 11-time capped New Zealand international was this week named the SSE Airtricity/SWI Player of the Month for April.
But he wasn't on anyone's radar here before Caulfield swooped.
He was reacting to the departure of Tim Clancy from his former club Cork City, and the difficulties with competing against sides that could splash the cash, when he gave an insight into Galway's success so far this season.

'The investment in the league nationwide has grown dramatically,' he said. 'If you look at the period when I was previously manager in Cork to now, the investment in clubs has been massive. And the stakes have been upped.
'And I suppose the challenges for the provincial clubs, particularly probably Sligo, Galway, Cork and possibly Waterford is competing because you're on a much lesser budget than the four Dublin clubs and Derry.
'But that's the challenge. That's why you have to work so hard. That's why you have to try and see if you can find the likes of Moses and these guys who are maybe not in the public eye.
'And there are ways somewhere that you can find these guys that will come in and make a difference.
'Ollie (Horgan) and myself put a lot of work into that, trying to find players that maybe are outside the eye of the clubs in Dublin.
'Because we know we don't have the money that's there, we have to box clever.
'I suppose the gap in that side has got bigger, but you have to try and find other ways and other solutions of how to stay in there, how to get results, how to sign players outside the box that will keep you competitive.
'And I suppose that's the challenge. And no matter if you're a manager of any club, it's really, really difficult.
'But you have to work incredibly hard and you have to have people with you who work hard and have good knowledge.
'You're not going to have any of those provincial clubs competing to sign a player that, with all due respect, Stephen (Bradley) or Duffer or Stephen Kenny come in for because financially you're not going to be there.
'So you have to go elsewhere. And that's the challenge for us.'
Sligo Rovers boss John Russell, meanwhile, is another who is working off a small budget - and his Bit O' Red side is rooted to the bottom of the Premier Division.
He is eager to turn things around quickly.
'The squad and staff all know results have not been good enough for a club like ours,' said Russell.
'But again, there's a huge determination within us to turn things around and there's no better way of beginning to do that than with a good result in a derby.'

Boost for Shelbourne as Uefa approve Tolka Park for Conference League play-off
SHELBOURNE HAVE RECEIVED a huge boost ahead of their Uefa Conference League play-off after it was confirmed that the home leg will be played at Tolka Park. It's understood that upgrades made to the stadium as well as the operational aspects of how the League of Ireland champions have managed their European games so far have been enough to convince Uefa delegates to grant a licence for the Drumcondra venue. Advertisement It had been anticipated that Shels would have to move the home leg of their Europa League third round qualifier with Rijeka last night to Tallaght Stadium in order to meet ground regulations and requirements from the governing body. However, Tolka also won the seal of approval for that tie and despite losing the game they did enough with how the event was run to keep such a crucial fixture on their own patch. St Patrick's Athletic, for example, had to move last week's Conference League home tie with Besiktas to the home of Shamrock Rovers and it has traditionally been the case for League of Ireland teams – other than the Hoops – who make it beyond the second round of Europe to move their home fixture. Shels are now due to play at Tolka next Thursday (21 August) against the winner of Linfield and Vikingur with the away leg on 28 August. The Irish League side trail 2-1 from the first leg and should David Healy's side produce a comeback it will be a repeat of the All-Ireland derby from the first round of this year's Champions League qualifiers earlier this summer.

Helvic Dream team lose Galway Hurdle appeal
Connections of Helvic Dream have lost their appeal against the decision of the stewards to demote their horse to second in the Galway Hurdle. Helvic Dream and Donagh Meyler won by a head but the stewards deemed there was enough interference caused to Jack Kennedy and Ndaawi to change the finishing order. Trainer Noel Meade's appeal was considered at an Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board hearing on Wednesday, with Mrs Justice Siobhán Keegan outlining the decision on behalf of the Appeals Body. She said: 'The ultimate decision that we have to reach is whether the stewards erred in their decision on the day and whether we should uphold the decision or reach a different view on this. READ MORE 'Having viewed all the recordings of the race and considered all of the evidence we have to come to our decision, mindful that these determinations are on the balance of probabilities. We also want to say that we can well see why an appeal has been brought in this case. 'In coming to our conclusion ... we cannot be satisfied that the stewards erred in their decision to reverse the placings. 'In summary that is because interference has occurred, and it was caused by Mr Meyler. Whilst Mr Kennedy's horse may not have obviously lost its own momentum, he was clearly significantly pressed for space so near the rail and he was not able to ride his strongest race. We must therefore dismiss the appeal.' Meade's deposit was returned.
