Delhi police nab 2 in Rs 10 cr stock investment scam
New Delhi: A social media chat turned into a costly ordeal for a Delhi resident, ultimately exposing a stock investment scam operated from a hotel in Nepal, with fraudulent transactions exceeding Rs 10 crore in just one month, an official said on Monday. Two people, Shashi Pratap Singh (28), a BBA graduate and Nihal Pandey (27), who holds an MCA degree, have been apprehended from Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur in this regard, the police official said. Shashi disclosed that Nihal had taken him to Nepal, from where these phoney operations were being conducted. Nihal revealed that a person had tasked him with arranging multiple bank accounts for laundering the defrauded money. 'Nihal had taken Shashi to Nepal, where they stayed in a hotel with three others and handed over SIM cards and banking credentials to a person,' Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam said. He added that in return, Shashi was promised a 1.5 per cent commission on transactions and reportedly received Rs 8–10 lakh in cash. Police said transactions totalling Rs 10.40 crore were conducted over a month using just one private bank account. 'The case came to light when complainant Sachin Kumar Tomar approached the police after being defrauded of Rs 8.15 lakh. He alleged that he was lured into investing in a fraudulent online trading platform by a woman named Sakshi Yadav, whom he met on social media,' Gautam said. She persuaded the victim to open a trading account and added him to a messaging group, claiming it was operated by her uncle and an associate named Rakesh, he said. Tomar deposited Rs 8.15 lakh into bank accounts. However, when he attempted to withdraw the returns on his 'profits,' the transactions failed, and his access was blocked. A case was registered, and investigators found that Rs 5.75 lakh of the cheated funds had been transferred to a private bank account. Further probe revealed the account was jointly held by Shashi and his father, Ramashankar Singh, the DCP said. 'Although the father claimed no knowledge of the transactions, he admitted to being a joint account holder. Shashi was arrested following sustained interrogation,' an officer said, adding that Nihal was also arrested from Gorakhpur. The gang operated by first contacting potential victims through social media platforms and posed as financial experts. They then lured victims with the promise of high returns on stock market investments. Initially, small profits were shown to build trust. As soon as larger investments were made, victims were blocked or told their accounts were frozen due to fictitious compliance execute this fraud on a large scale, the accused needed multiple bank accounts and SIM cards, which they obtained by luring people with cash incentives, the officer said.

LPG price cut: Commercial cylinders to get cheaper from July 1. But is the benefit coming to your home?
Representative image (Picture credit: PTI) Oil marketing companies have reduced the price of 19 kg commercial LPG gas cylinders by Rs 58.50, offering some respite to commercial users from July 1. As per news agency ANI, the revised retail sale price in Delhi now stands at Rs 1,665 per cylinder. However, there has been no change in the prices of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders. The fresh cut follows a series of adjustments over the past few months. In June, oil companies had slashed the price of the commercial cylinder by Rs 24, bringing it down to Rs 1,723.50. Before that, April had witnessed a Rs 41 reduction, while February saw a Rs 7 drop and March a minor Rs 6 hike. The reduction is expected to provide relief to small businesses like restaurants, hotels, and food vendors that depend heavily on commercial LPG for daily operations. However, for domestic users, there will be no relief in household kitchen budgets. While about 90 per cent of India's total LPG consumption is household-based, the remaining 10 per cent caters to commercial, industrial, and automotive sectors. Notably, domestic LPG prices are often insulated from the frequent changes seen in commercial rates. According to ET, the average cost of India's crude oil basket dropped to $64.5 per barrel in May 2025, its lowest in three years. This easing of crude prices is expected to help oil companies reduce their LPG-related losses by approximately 45 per cent in the upcoming financial year. India's natural gas pricing is pegged to 10 per cent of this crude basket, which heavily influences domestic fuel dynamics. Over the last ten years, domestic LPG connections have more than doubled, reaching nearly 33 crore households by April 2025. First in Tamil Nadu, Chennai gets 120 green buses
CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday flagged off 120 low-floor electric, non-AC buses from the Vyasarpadi Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) depot. This marks the first time that e-buses have been introduced by a state-run transport undertaking (MTC) in Tamil Nadu. Each electric bus when fully recharged, which takes up to two hours, can be operated for 200 km. The electric buses have been provided with emergency panic buttons at 13 places, 4 surveillance cameras, one mobile charging point for every two seats, and public announcement system. CM Stalin also inaugurated an electric charging station set up at a cost of Rs 47.5 crore. Aimed at reducing environmental pollution, the new fleet, procured at a cost of Rs 207.9 crore, is part of the Chennai Sustainable Urban Services Program (C-SUSP), a World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)-supported initiative. These ultra-low-floor buses are designed to be accessible for disabled commuters. 1.2K electric buses to be introduced across Chennai The electric buses feature low-floor seats in the front and high-floor seats in the rear. The floor height of the bus is 400mm, and it can be reduced up to 250mm. Following complaints of poor ventilation in the low-floor buses introduced last year, the MTC has increased the height of the window glass on either side of electric buses to enhance air circulation. It has also introduced a small sliding window for the high-floor seat in the rear.
