Alan Peacock dead at 87: Former England and Middlesbrough striker passes away as club release statement
His death was confirmed on Monday by Middlesbrough via a statement on their official X account.
It read: 'we are saddened to learn of the passing of club legend Alan Peacock at the age of 87.
'The former England international, who scored 141 goals in 238 games for his hometown club, passed away peacefully at the weekend with his family by his side.
'The thoughts of everyone at Middlesbrough Football Club are with Alan's family and friends at this sad time.'
Peacock. who forced to retire from football at the age of 30 due to injury, was diagnosed with dementia in 2018.
The former England international spent a decade with his hometown club Boro between 1954 and 1964, netting 141 goals in 238 games.
He then had spells with Leeds and Plymouth Argyle before being forced to hang up his boots in 1968.
Peacock's performances for Middlesbrough saw him earn a place in England 1962 World Cup squad.
He made his international debut in the Group Four victory over Argentina and went on to make five more appearances for his country in total, scoring three goals.
Middlesbrough added on their website: 'Alan, 87, was known to many at the Riverside and was a familiar face around the club, always with a smile and a cheeky quip.
'He was involved with matchday hospitality at the club where he was a popular host. He played an active role within the club's Foundation and he was heavily involved in programmes creating dementia awareness.'

BlueCo, the group that owns Chelsea and Strasbourg, has reached agreement to sign Julio Enciso from Brighton and Hove Albion. The 21-year old midfielder is recovering from a knee injury but will join Strasbourg initially before later transferring to Chelsea. The £13.8million transfer continues BlueCo's astonishing pattern of recruitment from Brighton since taking control at Stamford Bridge in 2022. Enciso is set to become the fifth player signed from the Amex Stadium, following Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo, Robert Sanchez and Joao Pedro.
