40th annual Burlington Kids Weekend starts May 16
BURLINGTON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) – Burlington kids will get two days to explore activities and just have fun in the city's parks this weekend – if the weather cooperates.
Saturday Preview: Severe thunderstorms possible
The event will be held even in the rain, but could be cancelled if thunderstorms are expected to cause safety concerns, said the city's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Waterfront on its Facebook page.
Currently, the activities for Friday are on track, and will be covered live by ABC22/FOX44 that evening. The city will decide whether to go ahead with the second day of activities on Saturday by Friday evening.
This year's 40th annual Kids Weekend celebration is scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, May 16 at Roosevelt Park from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and then mid-day Saturday, May 17 at Waterfront Park from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
South Burlington to hold community listening session for next police chief
Events will include free pizza and ice cream, a chance to meet Vermont Lake Monsters team mascot Champ, appearances by Miss Vermont 2025 and Miss Teen Vermont 2025, activities with local non-profits, a bounce house and fun rides, face painting, a magic show, and a sing-a-long with Burlington musician and educator Linda Bassick.

Burlington Jazz Fest promises a musical journey around the world
BURLINGTON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) – Musicians are heading to various stages across the Queen City this week as part of Burlington's 42nd Annual Discover Jazz Festival. This event started Tuesday and will run through June 8. There will be performances at The 126, The Vermont Comedy Club, as well as the Waterfront Park, City Hall Park, The Flynn Space and more. Flynn Executive Director Jay Wahl says that artists are traveling from all over the world to perform. 'We have an artist from Nigeria, an artist from Cuba, artist from D.C, Philly, New Orleans,' Wahl said. 'We're really going to take you on a journey of all the places that have influenced jazz in the world.' Wahl says more than 40 school bands will perform up and down Church Street, which is the most they've ever had play throughout the duration of the festival. In addition, if you yourself or someone you know is an artist, you can bring your instrument or voice down to Big Joe's Late Night and join in on the jam sessions.
