Peace committee meeting held in Kurnool ahead of Bakrid
Kurnool: As part of the efforts to maintain peace and communal harmony during upcoming festivals, district Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patil held a peace committee meeting with religious and community leaders at Vyas Auditorium in the district police office here on Wednesday.
The meeting was convened ahead of Bakrid festival to be celebrated on June 7, to ensure that no untoward incidents occur in the city.
Addressing the gathering, SP Vikrant Patil emphasised the importance of celebrating festivals in a spirit of brotherhood and unity, and urged all to abide by the rules. Asking public not to believe or spread rumors circulating on social media, he told them to report any suspicious activities or issues by dialling 100 or informing the nearest police station.
The SP further highlighted the need to protect the future of the younger generation by maintaining peace and promoting communal harmony. He affirmed that Kurnool district will continue to be a symbol of religious tolerance and unity.
Additional SP (Admin) Hussain Peer stressed the role of the community in fostering a cordial environment. 'We must be vigilant, act with presence of mind, and not fall for misinformation. Let us ensure that both Bakrid and the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festivals are celebrated in a peaceful atmosphere with full cooperation from the public,' he said.
During the meeting, community leaders requested establishment of a police outpost between Balaji Nagar and Stantonpuram under Kurnool Taluk Police Station limits to enhance local security.

FIR against 6 for offering Eid namaz at power substation in Hapur
Meerut: An FIR was registered against six persons, including Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) members, for allegedly offering Eid namaz at a power substation in Simbhaoli area of Hapur, police said on Sunday. The action comes during a sit-in protest led by BKU at the powerhouse, where farmers are demanding the immediate repair of electricity poles damaged in the recent storm. Protesters also demanded action against an official for demanding a bribe of Rs 40,000 in exchange for approving an electricity connection for a tubewell. On the occasion of Bakrid, some BKU members reportedly offered namaz on the premises of the substation. A video of the act was widely circulated online, following which, junior engineer Rambali Maurya, lodged an FIR at Simbhaoli police station against BKU district president Dinesh Kheda, activists Kunwar Khushnud, Manvvar Ali, Naushad, Faizan Abbasi, and an unidentified person under sections 191 (2) (illegal gathering in a group), 121 (1) obstructing govt work, 351 (2), 351 (3) of the BNS. "An FIR has been registered and further investigation is underway. No arrest has been made so far," said circle officer Varun Mishra. Meanwhile, Maurya added that the ongoing agitation is also linked to an earlier incident involving electricity theft. An inspection was carried out on complaints of electricity theft in Ratupura village and uncovered power theft in nine houses. "An FIR was registered in this matter, and the farmer leaders were pressuring us to withdraw the FIR and began their protests," said Maurya.

UP shocker: Man slits throat in Bakrid ‘sacrifice'; probe on
LUCKNOW: A 60-year-old man allegedly slit his throat to sacrifice himself on the occasion of Bakrid in UP's Deoria on Saturday. The man were identified as Ish Mohammad, reportedly bled for nearly an hour in a hut outside his home before his family found him in critical condition. He was rushed to Deoria Medical College and later referred to Gorakhpur Medical College for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police recovered a handwritten suicide note addressed to his family, which read: 'A man raises a goat like his own child and sacrifices it for Allah. I am offering my own sacrifice in the name of Allah and His Messenger.' The incident was reported to UP-112 emergency services, after which a police response vehicle arrived at the spot. According to Additional Superintendent of Police (North), Arvind Kumar Verma, forensic evidence and preliminary investigation suggest the injuries were self-inflicted. Post-mortem and inquest procedures are underway as per legal protocol. Police are also verifying the authenticity of the suicide note and said all other possible angles are being thoroughly examined. The incident has sent shockwaves across the local community.
