'Jai Hind, Jai Bharat': Shubhanshu Shukla's first message to India from ISS; says 'not easy to stand here'
NEW DELHI: Hours after entering the International Space Station (ISS), Axiom-4 crew member
Shubhanshu Shukla
on Thursday said his arrival at the space station marks India's first step in its own space journey.
In his first message from ISS, delivered in Hindi, Shukla said he is excited to take part in the science experiments planned for the next 14 days.
'A small message for my fellow countrymen. With your love and blessings, I have safely reached the International Space Station. It may look easy to stand here, but it's not that easy. My head feels heavy and there's a little discomfort, but these are very small things, and in a few days we'll get used to them,' Shukla said.
'For the next 14 days, we will stay here, conduct many scientific experiments, and stay in touch with you. This phase also marks the first step in our own space journey. I spoke to you a little while ago from the Dragon spacecraft, and I will keep speaking from here as well. Let's make this journey exciting and participate with great enthusiasm. I'm carrying the Indian Tricolour on my shoulder, and I believe the next 14 days will be thrilling.

Jai Hind, Jai Bharat,' he added.
Shukla also thanked the ISS crew for their warm welcome, saying all his expectations had been surpassed.
'It has been a wonderful ride - I was looking forward to coming to space. The minute I entered the ISS and met this crew, you made me feel so welcome, as if you literally opened your house doors for us. Whatever expectations I had have been surpassed - by the view, of course, but also by you.
Thank you so much,' he said.
'I'm very confident the next 14 days will be amazing as we advance science and research together,' he added.
The newly launched spacecraft, the fifth in SpaceX's Dragon series and named Grace, completed docking with the ISS while orbiting above the North Atlantic Ocean.
'At 6:31 am EDT (4:01 pm IST) on Thursday, the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft docked to the International Space Station for the fourth private astronaut mission to the orbiting laboratory, Axiom Mission 4,'
NASA
said in a statement.
After the initial soft-docking, a secure connection known as hard-mating was achieved when 12 sets of hooks locked the spacecraft and station together, enabling communication and power links. Hatch-opening procedures took about two hours before the astronauts could enter the ISS.
Shubhanshu Shukla is now the second Indian to travel to space, after Rakesh Sharma's 1984 mission. Joining him on Axiom-4 are Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski, Poland's second astronaut since 1978, and Tibor Kapu, Hungary's second space traveller in 45 years. The crew launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center on Wednesday en route to the ISS.

UP: Family members of Axiom Mission 4 pilot Shubhanshu Shukla meet CM Yogi in Lucknow
LUCKNOW: The family members of Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) pilot and Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla met Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Thursday evening. Shukla's father Shambhu Dayal Shukla, mother Asha Shukla, sister Shuchi Mishra, and brother met the Chief Minister, who felicitated them and presented them with a token of appreciation in honour of Shukla's selection for the space mission. Speaking to ANI, Shukla's mother, Asha Shukla, said, "We are delighted. We could meet the Chief Minister today due to our son. He felicitated us. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to him. He appreciated our child and said that he has done so well. We feel very proud. We have a new identity today due to our son." Axiom-4 pilot and IAF Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla earlier made history by becoming the 634th human in space and the first Indian to board the International Space Station (ISS), describing the moment as a "privilege." The Ax-4 crew successfully docked with the ISS following a 28-hour journey aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft. "I am no 634, that's a privilege," said Shukla shortly after receiving his astronaut pin from Ax-4 mission commander Peggy Whitson. "To be fair, it is a privilege to be amongst the few who have got the chance to see the Earth from a vantage point that I have been able to see now. It has been a wonderful ride. I was looking forward to coming to space--it is something to look forward to. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Uznávaný lékař radí: 30sekundová rutina pro rychlejší ztrátu přebytečných kilogramů Undo But the moment I entered the ISS, I felt welcomed. " He added, "The Tricolour I bear on my shoulder makes me feel as though the entire country is with me. I believe the next 14 days are going to be truly interesting." The Ax-4 crew, comprising Commander Peggy Whitson, Pilot Shubhanshu Shukla, Mission Specialist Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski of Poland, and Mission Specialist Tibor Kapu of Hungary, entered the ISS at 8:23 a.m. EDT after a smooth docking. Their arrival was marked by a traditional welcome ceremony. The mission represents a return to human spaceflight for India, Poland, and Hungary, with each nation sending a government-sponsored astronaut to the ISS for the first time in over 40 years. This is also the first time these countries are conducting a mission aboard the ISS. As Axiom Space's most research-intensive mission to date, Ax-4 will include over 60 experiments and technology demonstrations. These include studies in biology, muscle regeneration, edible microalgae, digital interface testing, and the survival of aquatic organisms. The research has been jointly developed by NASA , the Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO ), and Axiom Space. The crew launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Centre in Florida aboard a Falcon 9 rocket at 3:21 am ET on Wednesday, June 25. The mission is expected to last for up to 14 days.

Shubhanshu Shukla becomes first Indian to enter International Space Station
Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla scripted history, becoming the first Indian astronaut to reach the International Space Station (ISS) as the Axiom-4 (Ax-4) mission successfully docked with the orbiting laboratory on Thursday. The four-member crew will conduct 60 experiments during their 14-day stay, including 8 research experiments from India. The mission aims to study muscle regeneration, microgravity's impact on the brain, and crop seed growth in space. Shukla will perform 8 experiments for ISRO, focusing on areas like muscle regeneration and crop seed growth in microgravity. The mission marks India's first representation on the ISS and is seen as a precursor to the country's Gaganyaan programme.
