The actor took to social media to share a powerful first look from the film. Taking to his Instagram handle, Sunny Deol dropped his look from the film and wrote, 'Mission Accomplished! Fauji, signing off! My Shoot wrapped for #Border2. Jai Hind!" One of the fans wrote, 'Waiting for this Magnum Opus". Many dropped heart emojis in the comment section. Earlier, Varun had unveiled his fresh look from 'Border 2' as the next schedule of the film progressed in Pune. Varun, who plays a key role in the film, was recently spotted on set sporting a clean-shaven look. This marked a sharp contrast from his previously seen moustache look during the earlier shoot. The actor was dressed in a checkered orange-and-white shirt, and was seen interacting with fans at the location. The new phase of filming indicates a shift in narrative progression as the production moves ahead at a brisk pace. The visuals come after the film's initial schedule had generated substantial buzz earlier this year, with images of Varun Dhawan from the set going viral. The film is directed by Anurag Singh, and brings together a stellar ensemble including Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The film is backed by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. It is presented by Gulshan Kumar & T-Series, in association with J.P. Dutta's J.P. Films. This sequel continues the legacy of honouring the heroism and indomitable spirit of Indian soldiers, taking audiences on a spectacular journey of patriotism, courage, and sacrifice. view comments First Published: July 11, 2025, 17:22 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Assam Court's Order Asking Accused to Chant Jai Hind Thrice a Day Defeats the Purpose of Bail

A court in Assam recently granted bail to a man accused of alleged "anti-national activity" on social media. The court issued specific directions to the accused in its bail order, notably asking him to ' chant 'Jai Hind' 3 times in the morning for 21 days.' The accused, Arif Rahman, has also been directed to record himself saying 'Jai Hind' and share the video on his social media. The accused was arrested in the aftermath of the Pahalgham tragedy, which left tens of civilians dead, after a complaint was filed alleging that he had praised Pakistan using a fake Facebook account. While the case may later take its own course when it goes for trial, the bail order is prima facie flawed and defeats the purpose of procedural fairness. Objective of bail Bail is simply the release of a person from custody. Bail does not determine a person's innocence or guilt, but given that a trial takes a long time to conclude, a person cannot be confined to prison for an extended period of time. Additionally, the principle of "presumption of innocence", a core tenet of criminal jurisprudence, lays down that any person accused of an offence is innocent until proven guilty by the state authorities. Therefore, the burden of proof, particularly in ordinary criminal cases, lies on the state to prove the guilt of a person. Bail also allows the accused to arrange resources for their defence. In a country like India, where the criminal justice system is practically broken, bail becomes a really significant tool in the hands of accused persons. The Criminal Procedure Code, the erstwhile legislation dealing with criminal procedure, did not define bail but laid down cases where bail was a matter of right and where it was not. The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 defines bail as the 'release of a person accused of an offence from the custody of law…'. The conditions imposed for bail can be in the form of a bond or bail bond. Bond is a personal undertaking by the accused to ensure compliance with the conditions attached to the bail, including cooperation with the security agencies, appearance before the court, not leaving the court's jurisdiction without informing the court or the police, not trying to tamper with evidence or influence witnesses, among other lawful conditions. In some instances, the Supreme Court has even ruled against surrendering the accused's passport as one of the bail conditions. As can be seen, these conditions do not establish the guilt or innocence of the individual but only ensure his compliance with the conditions imposed by the court. Ensuring a fair trial A bail order, such as the one in the Assam case, already establishes a person's guilt. It does not afford him an opportunity to defend his case and challenge the state's view. The order not only defeats the purpose of bail but also undermines the objective of a fair trial. A bail is not a trial that will decide the fate of the case and grant punishment to the accused. In the Assam case, the judge has practically imposed a punishment on the accused in the bail order itself. The purpose of the bail is to provide a fair trial to the accused and not impose unlawful conditions upon his release. During the COVID-19 crisis, courts across India imposed bizarre bail conditions on accused persons, undermining established legal principles. In the case of Arvind Patel, for example, the accused was asked to install a television at a local hospital. Similarly, a person was asked to donate to the PM-CARES fund, established by the government during the COVID pandemic, without caring about how the order basically rewrote the principles of criminal justice. Even though the judges possess certain discretion in granting bail, the orders cannot be arbitrary and punitive. What is more is that the abuse of the criminal justice system leads to prejudice and bias against specific individuals and groups of individuals. As the 'public sentiment' surfaces against the so-called 'anti-national' viewpoint, the political enemies do not find favour in the judicial process. To force the accused to say 'Jai Hind' in public view also reinforces the narrative that Indian Muslims are lesser patriots than other groups living in India and need to prove it publicly. A dangerous precedent The Assam bail order is an affront to the criminal justice system and establishes a dangerous precedent for other courts. It feeds into the politics of the day in Assam and serves as an affront to the moral imagination of the Constitution of India, which commits to individual liberty and fairness in justice. In Rakesh Kumar Paul vs State of Assam and several other cases, the Supreme Court clarified that the terms and conditions of bail ought to be reasonable. Even more unusual is that the conditions are not backed by any law or authority and are imposed at the whim of a judge. In conclusion, the Assam court's bail order is problematic due to its disregard for the progressive bail jurisprudence and the constitutional principle of fair trial. India-France cultural ties to inspire creativity, shared future

India and France share a "rich, growing partnership" spanning defence, climate action, AI, trade and a strong cultural bond, and the Indo-French ties will continue to inspire a "shared future", Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said on Monday. He said this on X after attending the French National Day celebrations in Delhi. "Gave me great joy to join the French National Day celebrations in Delhi today. Bastille Day's values of liberty, equality and fraternity resonate deeply in Bharat too. India and France share a rich, growing partnership spanning defence, climate action, AI, trade and a strong cultural bond," he said. In his post, he also shared some photos of the celebrations. "Happy to note France's support for the 'Yuge Yugeen Bharat' Museum, which will be the largest national museum in the world. As we look ahead to the 'Year of Innovation 2026', our cultural ties will continue to inspire creativity, understanding and a shared future. Vive la France, Jai Hind!," Shekhawat said. In December 2024, India's National Museum and France Muséums Développement signed an agreement under which the French agency will share modalities and best practices to transform the British-era North Block and South Block into a "global cultural landmark". The ambitious project has been dubbed the 'Yuga Yugeen Bharat National Museum'. The upcoming museum -- billed to be the largest in the world -- will have eight thematic segments telling the story of India spanning over 5,000 years.

Bengaluru Couple Get 'Jai Hind, Jai Indian Army' Call, Lose Rs 2 Lakh

Last Updated: A freelance trainer from Bengaluru and her husband lost over Rs 2.1 lakh in a scam involving a fake job offer from Army Public School It started with a job offer and ended in a costly scam. On July 9, a woman from Bandipalya, Bengaluru, was duped out of more than Rs 2.1 lakh in a slick cyber con that used the name of the Army and played heavily on patriotic emotions to win trust. Harini (name changed), a freelance trainer, was part of a WhatsApp group that regularly shared job leads from across the country. That day, a message popped up: Army Public School in Bengaluru is hiring a communication and discipline trainer. The message included a phone number. Harini dialed it immediately. The man who answered claimed to be part of the administrative staff at APS. He sounded professional, explained the role, and said the school would pay Rs 5,000 per hour for a two-hour session. Harini was thrilled. The man assured her someone from the school's MG Road campus would call her shortly. Minutes later, a WhatsApp voice call came in. This time, the caller introduced himself as a school representative. He praised Harini's experience and said the institution was eager to hire her; but first, she'd have to 'register as a vendor", as per protocol for military-affiliated institutions. That's where the trap began. The caller asked for her Aadhaar details. Then, he explained that she needed to link her UPI ID and complete an OTP verification to finish the onboarding. Harini followed the instructions and entered both her PIN and OTP. In seconds, Rs 26,000 vanished from her bank account. Shocked, Harini questioned the caller. But he didn't hang up. Instead, he doubled down, sending her a forged military ID to prove his legitimacy. He peppered his conversation with patriotic phrases like 'Jai Hind" and 'Jai Indian Army". Harini, confused and convinced, stayed on the line. Then he asked for a secondary number. Harini shared her husband Dinesh's contact. The same playbook was used again. The fraudster called Dinesh, repeated the pitch, and persuaded him to go through the same OTP-based 'registration". This time, the loss was steeper; four separate withdrawals totaling Rs 1.9 lakh. In under an hour, the couple had lost over Rs 2.1 lakh. On Friday, Dinesh filed a complaint at the Bandipalya police station. The couple also contacted their bank and called the National Cybercrime Helpline (1930). Police have registered a case under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and are working to trace and freeze the fraudster's bank accounts. Investigators say the case is part of a growing trend where scammers exploit the credibility of institutions like the military to manipulate victims emotionally, particularly through WhatsApp-based impersonations. Police have urged citizens to avoid sharing Aadhaar, UPI, or banking details with unknown callers, no matter how official they may sound, and to treat all 'job offer" calls requiring OTP sharing as immediate red flags. view comments First Published: July 14, 2025, 17:01 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
