Katie Price opens up over rare cancer diagnosis after one sign
Katie Price, 47, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer while she was pregnant with her eldest son, Harvey
Katie Price has opened up about her battle with a rare form of cancer that she was diagnosed with while pregnant with her son Harvey.
The 47-year-old former glamour model, who became pregnant in 2002 after a brief fling with ex-Premier League star Dwight Yorke, was told by doctors that the stress of her pregnancy could have triggered the development of leiomyosarcoma, commonly referred to as LMS.
Just 11 weeks after discovering her son Harvey Price had Prader-Willi Syndrome and was blind, Katie was diagnosed with the uncommon cancer. She shared her ordeal on Katherine Ryan's podcast What's My Age Again?, revealing that the cancer developed on her hand.
LMS is a type of soft tissue sarcoma with a 50 per cent survival rate at an advanced stage. Katie initially learned of the lump on her hand when a manicurist noticed it, but two doctors initially dismissed it as harmless.
However, she was later advised to have the growth removed and underwent a biopsy at Nuffield Hospital in Brighton, where the lump was excised, reports Plymouth Live.
In conversation with comedian Katherine Ryan, Katie recounted: "While I was pregnant with Harvey I got cancer. I didn't know that until, because they couldn't do all the scans, after.
"It was in my hand, they took it out, it was called leiomyosarcoma. Apparently I got that from being pregnant, the stress of it."
She recalled informing her mother about her diagnosis in a casual manner, saying: "So when I phoned my mum, I just remember going: 'Mum, just to let you know, they found cancer'. I was so flippant like that because so much had already happened to me by then."
She explained: "It was just a, 'Yeah, this has happened now', 'Yeah, that's happened now'. I think about it and then I'm just like, oh, well, you just got to get on with it."
After her diagnosis, Katie had to attend regular check-ups following the removal of the growth. At the time, she described Harvey as her "inspiration" during her health scare.
According to Sarcoma UK, there are around 525 cases of LMS each year in the United Kingdom. The condition affects women more than men, with the median age of diagnosis being 64.
The prognosis is generally positive, with around 79% of women and 90% of men surviving the condition for at least a year. Treatment options often involve surgery, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy.
Katie went on to have two more children, Junior and Princess, with her ex-husband Peter Andre, whom she met on the set of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2004 and married in 2005. However, they divorced in 2009.
Katie later married Alex Reid in 2010, but they divorced after just a year.
In 2013, she married Kieran Hayler, with whom she had two children, Bunny and Jett, before divorcing in 2021. Katie is currently in a relationship with JJ Slater, a former contestant on Married at First Sight.

Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebutt and TV chef Rosemary Shrager to headline Stranraer Oyster Festival
Tony Singh and Julie Lin will also be returning, with Bake Off star Dr James Morton and a number of local chefs also appearing. Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebutt and TV chef Rosemary Shrager will headline this year's Stranraer Oyster Festival. Tony Singh and Julie Lin will also be returning, with Bake Off star Dr James Morton and a number of local chefs also appearing. The festival will take place from September 12 to 18, with Matt making a dash from BBC's Saturday Kitchen studio for his festival debut. He'll be making multiple appearances, including an exclusive in conversation event, and he will lead the new Sunday Oyster Kitchen. He said: 'I'm genuinely excited to be part of Stranraer Oyster Festival. What draws me to events like this is the opportunity to celebrate truly exceptional local produce in the place where it's grown or caught. 'The story of Loch Ryan's native oysters is remarkable. You've got this incredible natural resource that's been sustainably managed for centuries, and now it's the heart of a festival that's brought a whole community together. 'That's exactly the kind of food story I want to be part of.' Rosemary Shrager, whose warmth and expertise have made her a household name through shows including The Real Marigold Hotel and I'm a Celebrity, brings her passion for seasonal cooking and local produce to both cookery demonstration and in conversation' events. The festival's chef ambassador Tony Singh will make his fifth, with Julie Lin returning for the third time The festival also welcomes back popular local chefs including Ryan McCutcheon, the Lisi brothers, Douglas and Massimo and David Alexander from Dunskey Estate, and includes a special event from Penninghame Cooking School. Podcaster and cookery writer Helen Cross returns to her home town of Stranraer to host an event with Dr James Morton, expert bread baker and a finalist in the 2012 series of Great British Bake Off. Stranraer Development Trust chairman, Roman Petrucci, said: 'What excites me most about this year's line-up is the calibre of chefs who said yes when we approached them. Matt Tebbutt, Rosemary Shrager, Julie Lin - these are people at the very top of their game who could be anywhere, doing anything, but they want to be here, in Stranraer, celebrating with us. 'That tells you everything about the reputation this festival has built. We're a destination that attracts the best talent in the country. I can't wait to introduce this year's chefs to Stranraer and share the passion and determination that is making our oyster festival one of the most popular food festivals in Scotland.' Stranraer Oyster Festival 2025 is sponsored by Lactalis UK & Ireland, alongside Rock Island whisky from Douglas Laing, Stranraer Skills Station and Loch Ryan Oyster Fishery Company. The festival is supported by Dumfries and Galloway Council's signature events programme and the coastal benefit fund, and the work of Stranraer Development Trust is also supported by South of Scotland Enterprise and The Holywood Trust.

Mason Mount sends two-word message as Man Utd transfer finally completed
Matheus Cunha has completed his £62.5m move to Manchester United from Wolves, and his new team-mate Mason Mount has already sent a welcome message on social media Mason Mount has taken to social media to send his best wishes to Matheus Cunha following his official move to Manchester United. After the end of the Premier League campaign, the Red Devils didn't waste time swooping in for the Brazilian, activating his hefty £62.5million release clause from Wolves. Cunha emerged as a key figure this past season under Vitor Pereira, notching up 15 top-flight goals and six assists, which played a significant part in keeping his side's Premier League hopes alive as they finished in 16th place. Thursday saw United tie up all loose ends, confirming that the 26-year-old forward has committed to a five-year deal at Old Trafford. Mount, who formerly starred for Chelsea before swapping flags for United two years ago in a deal worth an initial £55m, then posted a heartwarming welcome to Cunha on Instagram. The English playmaker uploaded a picture of new signing Cunha penning his deal and captioned it with a heartfelt message: "Welcome brother!" Overcome with joy at his new chapter, Cunha expressed his fulfillment of his lifelong ambition as a youngster in Brazil, and revealed his aim is to help Ruben Amorim's side get back to the top. "It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player," Cunha admitted after his recruitment was made official. "Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother's house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt. "I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me make that dream a reality. I can't wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my team-mates and prepare for the season ahead. "All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top," concluded the Brazilian. United's director of football, Jason Wilcox, also couldn't hide his delight as he said (via the Manchester Evening News): "Bringing in Matheus was one of our main priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing so early in the window. "He has proved his ability to succeed in the Premier League as one of the most exciting and productive forwards in England during his time at Wolves, and, before that, in Spain and Germany. "He has all the qualities we are looking for as we seek to build a strong, dynamic and entertaining team capable of challenging for the biggest honours." Because I love them," holding up one of the brand's £10 'lucky dip' mystery bags. Katie added: 'This is the kind of thing you can get in them. Yes, I smell everything because it's all new.' The former Loose Woman, dressed in a series of curve-hugging outfits that highlighted her tiny waist and enhanced chest, kept up a cheerful commentary as she worked through the haul. 'I love these,' she said of one pair of flowy shorts. 'They're like shorts underneath - great for holidays or going out. Easy to wear and to wash.' Modelling another colourful co-ord, she added: 'Actually, now I do love a bit of colour. Look at these shorts. Even these have pockets in them. We do love a pocket!' Showing off a dress with a plunging neckline and cinched waist, she declared: 'Look at the back of this! Gorgeous, just easy to wear, even with a pair of wedges.' The whole range, she reminded viewers, was available in sizes six to 20. Katie's video comes after her appearance in Diesel's SS2025 campaign sparked outrage — and a formal ruling from the Advertising Standards Authority. The advert in question included an image of Katie wearing a bikini and holding a handbag in front of her chest. She stripped off to a tiny denim bikini for the shoot as she showed off her body tattoos. Katie Price shows off bum as she gets MORE filler added to it after sparking concern Her boyfriend JJ Slater also starred in the Diesel campaign, posing as a waxer in a chaotic salon. But the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received 13 complaints that the ad objectified and sexualised women and featured a model who appeared to be unhealthily thin. It was shown all around the world to over 100 countries, with Katie appearing skinny and dressed in a glittering bikini while holding up a Diesel handbag to cover her stomach. It was first featured on the Guardian website on 26 March this year and then shared widely across social media, including on Katie's own accounts. Diesel said the ad was part of a brand campaign called 'The Houseguests', which was designed to challenge stereotypes and support diversity and inclusion in the fashion industry by reflecting a wide range of body types. They argued it showed Katie in 'an active and dynamic pose where she proudly showed off her body and the handbag." Diesel added she "was well-known for her exaggerated appearance and larger-than-life personality and her large lips and breasts formed part of her curated public image. That exaggerated, eccentric and altered appearance formed part of the creativity of the campaign.' They believed the image was a "celebration of Katie's sexuality and empowerment and was not objectifying, degrading or sexualising" and further stated that Katie "was slender, she had excellent muscle tone and was not unhealthily underweight". Partly upholding the complaints, the ASA said the bikini only partially covered Price's breasts, and it considered the positioning of the handbag, in front of her stomach with the handle framing her chest, drew viewers' attention to, and emphasised, that part of her body. The ruling from the ASA said: "While we acknowledged that Ms Price was shown in a confident and self-assured pose and in control, we considered that because of the positioning of the handbag, which had the effect of emphasising and drawing attention to her breasts, the ad sexualised her in a way that objectified her. "We therefore considered the ad was likely to cause serious offence, was irresponsible and breached the Code." However, the ASA did not uphold complaints about Katie appearing to be unhealthily thin, and concluded that the ad was not irresponsible on that basis. They said: "Her hair had been styled away from her face in a beehive style, in such a way as to elongate her face and her head was slightly tilted downwards which added to that effect, but we did not consider she appeared gaunt. "None of her bones were obviously protruding." The watchdog ruled that the ad must not appear again, adding: "We told Diesel to ensure their future ads were socially responsible and did not cause serious or widespread offence."
