Pindi's development projects: CM Maryam expresses satisfaction
She visited the Rawalpindi GPO Underpass and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover Project. The Chief Minister reviewed construction quality of the project and also inspected ongoing construction activities. She responded to the enthusiasm of the workers working on the project by waving her hand. She directed to ensure construction quality in the project under any circumstance and directed to plant two trees on the dual sides of the roads. Two more underpasses will be built to make Rawalpindi's Mall Road signal-free. Two lakh vehicles will be able to easily pass through the underpass on a daily basis. The construction of the underpass will make it easier for AFIC and MH patients to cross the road.
The Mall Road will be made signal-free for 26 kilometers. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover will be completed at a cost of Rs2.3 billion and the underpass project will be completed at a cost of Rs4.38 billion. The construction work of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover project has been completed by 85 percent and the construction of the underpass project has been completed by 60 percent.
Secretary C&W gave a detailed briefing about the ongoing project. It was informed in the briefing that installation of piles of the overhead bridge of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover project has been completed. 56 girders of the flyover have been prepared, 32 girders have been installed on the flyover. The construction work of 7 drains of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover is ongoing and boundary wall of the flyover has also been completed. The Chief Minister also reviewed construction activities of the underpass at Mall Road GPO Chowk. The construction of 2093 piles and girders of the underpass has been completed.
A special path for pedestrians has also been included in the project. Construction work is underway on 56 development projects in Rawalpindi Division. The completion of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover will enable citizens to have direct access to the motorway and Rawalpindi Ring Road. 79,000 vehicles will benefit after the completion of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover.
Member of National Assembly Ms Tahira Aurangzeb, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Chief Secretary Zahid Zaman Akhtar and other senior officials were also present.

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif met Seishiro Eto Chairman Japan's Parliamentarians' Friendship League in which matters pertaining to enhancing Pak-Japan parliamentary contacts were agreed. While talking to Seishiro Eto she said, 'We will move forward cordial relations between Japan and Punjab to new heights. We will benefit from Japanese experiences in the fields of education, health, urban development, police, sewage, water treatment, environment and other sectors.' She outlined, 'We will popularize the usage of technology to promote development and progress in the province. We will introduce AI-based smart services in Punjab. We intend to establish research-oriented partnerships between educational institutions of Punjab and the Japanese universities.' Moreover, the CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited Metropolitan Expressway Nihonbashi section in Tokyo. She visited the ancient Nihonbashi Bridge in Japan. Nihonbashi Bridge is a source of entertainment and interest for pedestrians. Nihonbashi, Tokyo's famous waterfront, connects Tokyo Station and other districts. An underground expressway will be completed in the next few years to preserve the ancient beauty of Nihonbashi Bridge. Nihonbashi Expressway is a mega project being built under public-private partnership in Japan. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was also apprised about the eco-friendly effects of the Nihonbashi Expressway project. CM seeks Japanese tech to improve traffic, urban systems
LAHORE: 'Japanese experiences and technology will be used to improve traffic and urban systems in Punjab,' said Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif. During her visit to Tokyo's state-of-the-art traffic control center, she was given a detailed briefing on the working of traffic control room, and the technology used for the purpose. She was apprised by the authorities concerned, 'Tokyo has the honor of being the first city to use 'infrared technology' for traffic control and monitoring.' They said, 'CCTV cameras and roadside sensors are also being used for traffic control and monitoring in Tokyo.' The chief minister was further briefed about data collection, transport planning and the infrastructure in the traffic control room, and was apprised about the provision of ambulances and police action in case of accidents and emergencies. She observed the modern monitoring system to prevent overspeeding and signal violations, and also learnt about the system to inform public about weather changes in Tokyo through the traffic control system. The chief minister said, 'Lahore will be made the first smart city using a modern traffic management system, funds for which have been given in the annual development program. Traffic system of all major cities of Punjab, including Lahore, is being connected to AI.' She highlighted, 'To maintain smooth traffic flow, more than 12,000 kms long roads have been revamped in Punjab. To reduce traffic pressure on roads, efficient mass transit systems are being introduced in Lahore, Gujranwala and Faisalabad. Safe City cameras are being used for traffic monitoring.' Achakzai is Imran's new pick for NA opp leader
In a move that might have come as a rude shock to many PTI leaders, Imran Khan, the jailed founder of the embattled party, has nominated the maverick chief of PkMAP, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, for opposition leader in the National Assembly. Achakzai's nomination has provided grist to the rumour mill, churning out reports that Imran is increasingly unhappy with the PTI leaders over their failure to mount a formidable challenge against the coalition government which he accuses of stealing his party's mandate. The development comes days after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified Omar Ayub Khan and Shibli Faraz earlier this month following their convictions in the May 9 cases. Both were formally de-notified as opposition leaders respectively in the National Assembly and the Senate on August 8, along with several other opposition members in the National Assembly and provincial legislatures. PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja told reporters outside the Supreme Court on Wednesday that Imran had also nominated Senator Azam Swati as Leader of the Opposition in the Senate. He added that the PTI founder had sought five names from the party for nomination to the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly. Raja further said that Imran had tasked the party's political committee with finalising its strategy for the upcoming by-elections on seats that fell vacant after the disqualification of lawmakers in the May 9 cases. The committee was scheduled to meet later in the day to make decisions, he added. He confirmed that Achakzai, who currently heads the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP), would replace Omar Ayub in the National Assembly. In a separate address in Lahore, Raja urged political forces to unite against what he termed oppression and arbitrary arrests. "It does not matter where you come from or which party you belong to - if you have empathy, we are together," he said. "For the permanence of humanity and dignity, this struggle has to be fought." He warned that "anyone can be detained for any reason" under the prevailing circumstances, adding that "the only law in this country is fear." Raja assured party supporters that the PTI leadership would take their struggle to "every available forum." He said the wider movement was not just about the party's politics but about protecting fundamental rights. "What does the supremacy of law and the Constitution mean? It means having the right to protest under Article 17. Article 15 allows free movement. Article 19 gives us the right to raise and spread our voice together," he noted. He also spoke about the plight of farmers and the poor across the country, saying: "I listened to people in Sindh, it brought tears to my eyes. But this suffering is not limited to Sindh - it is everywhere." Calling for a united front, the PTI leader said, "We all have rights and we are all human. If we fail to act, those rights will erode further." Referring to the devastation caused by floods, Raja said they were not purely natural disasters but were aggravated by "human greed and mismanagement." "We need to eradicate this greed in the same way our forests are being cut down. If we do not stand up now, we may lose the ability to raise our voice altogether," he warned.
